chaser and then Loie does them and Lozi hires me when he overbooks which he does all the time so I started doing being an auctioneer for a while now and I’m pretty goddamn good i don’t do the I just call people that’s what you’re supposed to do no I call people i just I go up there i have to get their attention first that’s number one and we all know that you got to get their attention they’re all talking after it’s after this it’s after that they’re Tell them to shut up mhm and then you start kind of you got to know your list man and I put on a comedy show come on now you’re back there hey on a show i’m available and getting everybody laughing and drunk and then they’re like “I’m a big dick i’m the big dick.” And it’s good to have good auction items sometimes I had to [ __ ] have shitty auction items and you’re just trying to get stuff out of the Okay we’ve got a $20 gift card to Golf Galaxy yeah you know and we’ll start here in the front 30ucks who’s going to start the bidding at watch that homie who’s on Instagram he’s a very kind of a quiet person but I swear he’s on Instagram more than anybody I’ve ever met like every video I look at or watch he’s already liked it or they send you videos all day long do you ever know those people who don’t talk in public but they’re super loud on social media or they they send me like clips of [ __ ] i’m like clips nonstop but it’s not loud in terms of opinion i’m just saying they’re just loud like all of a sudden they become like a different person like they’re funny they’re uh creative yeah and they’re and they’re boring to talk to and then but [ __ ] that they could they could tweet something out and be funny with it it’s really weird but in person completely they’ve got no personality no personality at all and they’re nervous and then Yeah and then they’ll tweet things out and be really confident in their tweets i got to give a shout out to Max Patrick already had met him this weekend i mean I had talked to him in the past but um really cool man he came up to me one time on a face and goes “Hey man i’m friends with Travis Turble.” I go “What’s up baby?” Dude you know what he said to me he goes “Paul Stie is my best buddy.” Like that’s what he said i think he puts all the connection with different like St louis people and whatever he’s just cool he was coaching his kid his kid was playing pretty good with the Leafs in the playoffs yeah i don’t know if he’s going back there he looked good dude he was crushing guys you know he was crushing guys had never really done throughout the course of his career i was texting you i go “Dude Max Pedro is rocking dudes.” I know but that’s that’s um veteran guys who who want to find a role and find a way to stick around in the NHL man that’s what I know but that’s what they do he’s done really well for himself i hear Jamie Ben’s going back to Dallas really wants to still I thought you said that they wanted to change the scenery and you’d think that Jamie Ben’s the guy the [ __ ] cuz he’s running the show in the locker room you know Jim Nil he made a comment i remember that that as long as he’s there Jaime Ben will always be there and I kind of wanted to be like “Yeah but no one’s going to hold that against you if all of a sudden you let Jaime Ben walk at some point you got to turn it over.” So I thought after they lost and how they lost and then firing Pete and all of that that maybe they would like move on from a couple of veteran guys but I hear he’s going back there interesting he might you know he’s been there a long time he took over Madano like you know he Madonna was a guy then Jaime Ben became so popular there what do you mean took over Madonna well like Madonna was the guy brendan Mororrow was like Yeah okay but I think Jamie was more I mean I remember Brendon Mororrow saying something like uh when he was playing he’s like my kids don’t care about me they don’t care about they love Jamie Ben like he just came on the scene and he was a rock star with the look tough fighting scoring goals like a fifth round pick or whatever yeah i like him you know all that Chaser and those guys [ __ ] love Jamie Ben talk about him all the time i know so I don’t know a lot of weird things going on though Andy weird things god dang yes you’ve been watching the news at all i’ve been traveling you see the [ __ ] plane crash did you see the plane crash you know what jeez Louise what is going on around here [ __ ] i’d like to talk to the guy who survived i don’t believe that he’s an Indian national did you see him walk away from the wreckage i don’t believe that it’s registered that he had a ticket on a plane his brother died i just don’t believe it i don’t know he was in India visiting family he left in London and he was he was going back to London he’s an Indian national i don’t I just don’t believe it that plane blew up like you can’t goddamn believe that he walked away yes i can’t believe it although that’s happened before in plane crashes and crazy stuff no he wasn’t he was walking away yeah but he’s in the hospital you see his interview from the hospital the only way he survived that damn crash is if he jumped out of the [ __ ] emergency exit or somehow he got [ __ ] hit something hit and his seat left the [ __ ] plane before the engines hit and blew up so the plane blew up do you realize that’s how everyone died is it Is it from the impact or is it from the blowing right what no how do they die because of jet fuel what do you mean they weren’t even going that fast probably 100 miles how they died jet fuel they accerated what does that mean means like you you accelerate like all a sudden you go and you’re dead that’s how much fire and fuel hit these people it just the fire just comes through the plane god yeah it explodes look at the video here’s what’s weird they think it’s pilot error we don’t know yet they’re going to get the black box we’re going to know way more details but if you watch it I have I watched all these guys these pilots they saw the takeoff and the flaps didn’t go up oh really and the [ __ ] landing gear stayed down so they have all this force and they couldn’t have didn’t have any more energy they had so much drag and it wouldn’t go up and it goes bam into a [ __ ] apartment complex but if you watch it it was a doctor or a doctor yeah i mean there’s so much [ __ ] around i say hostiles all over the don’t care world this is very important but if you watch the video of the takeoff and have some of these pilots experienced pilots break it down for you it’s very interesting either the co-pilot didn’t press the wrong button and had the flaps go down instead of the engine gear coming up because it it didn’t or the or the plane malfunction but it’s usually pilot error if you watch all these plane crashes it’s usually pilot error okay i don’t like son of a [ __ ] i don’t like you i texted Andy right away i go “Did you see it?” 5:30 in the goddamn morning i woke up and it’s I’m like “Oh my god.” And then what did I say oh my god how many people died i go “Shit everybody.” No I at that time they were saying there were no fatalities counted how stupid yeah exactly i mean god I don’t like I don’t like the finger i don’t like the finger pointing at where at the pilot like no you don’t even know it could have been mechanical error where they did hit the button and why are we having to hit buttons anyway in 2025 it should just automatically just flap up okay i mean it’s probably You know how old that plane is do you know how old most commercial jets are they’re [ __ ] old they’re old look sometimes when you’re flying you’ll have a little cigarette thing no not anymore yeah I’ve seen it i don’t see that you don’t smoke but it’s still there because they’re old i haven’t seen one of those open your eyes up you’re on your damn phone and he’s like this open your eyes i mean that cam acts like he’s flying on a roll in the 1980s no they are do you think these commercial jets are old you don’t get that let me ask you a question do you think rocks though do you think um like Spirit Airline Planes or Frontier Airline Planes Do you think you’re rolling the dice more hell yeah rolling the dice more you think you’re you’re at risk to fly on those flights versus a Delta flight or Boeing boeing has a bad reputation right now i don’t look Southwest Airlines have exploded in midair and the the [ __ ] the engine falls off and remember the the top part of the plane opened up and the emergency exit fell out and all these weird things happened with Southwest Airlines jesus walking away from that i don’t believe it don’t believe it conspiracy thirst i just don’t believe it yet i I need proof believe him i I don’t know cuz it’s impossible unless he because he said he just woke up and he walked away there’s no way the amount of fuel the amount of fuel on that monster 787 you know how [ __ ] big that damn thing is you think he just showed up there and I don’t know or he he was he was on the ground and the plane blew up and he’s like “Holy shit.” And he walked away i don’t know and I could be injured i could be he walked away i could be wrong you see any burn marks on him i didn’t he’s had a little cut on his head i don’t know significant injuries so this other guy you haven’t dealt with he was an 11A I believe well not cuz I don’t go to your neighborhood that much here’s the deal uh another passenger in one of the same planes I think that that flew into the Everglades like 20 years ago oh my god one of those That’s horrific in so many ways into the Everglades where the alligators are god damn right and they ate everybody they started to did you see a video of that lion who broke into that grocery store and he looked like AI dude you got You think that was AI yes it was AI people were saying that in the comments but that’s what it No [ __ ] meaning like Tomahawk steak don’t get It was like he was at a buffet don’t get got there’s so much AI out there incredible i used to go to those like what buffet restaurants like I used to love Gangas Grill baby no no no not the Asian ones i want the Asian ones baby you know the best buffets are the Indian buffets speaking of they’re damn good we have an Indian a lot of Indian restaurants out in Wild you know that I cook as well as the Indians do with Indian food disrespectful that is so goddamn disrespectful that’s so goddamn disrespectful you don’t know [ __ ] about their culture you don’t know just cuz your neighbors are Indian doesn’t mean know what I mean kind of like what they did here so anyway um we’re at the pizza place Girardano’s and this guy is just berating this poor uh manager waitress manager she was like everything there i think she was cooking too cleaning did you say something what do you look like she look like He was He was Give me a description he was Give me a description he was boulder a little heavy no african-american i don’t know don’t lie it’s African no I don’t know if he was no no no you can’t tell the difference no he I think he was like he may have had some Indian in him he may have had some Pakistanian in So another an Indian person he could have had Pakistani a goddamn plane crash could have been Middle Eastern you say you’re better at cooking than the Indian people now another Indian started berating somebody at a restaurant really weird what with the Indian spices it He wasn’t Indian he wasn’t Indian so he’s black he may have been Middle Eastern or Pakistanian he was pissed he calls the police cuz his pizza wasn’t well done enough you psychos is there anything that would make you that mad to call the police well if somebody owed me money or if somebody robbed me or I didn’t but even if they didn’t cook my food right I’d just leave like get out of Are you calling the police over there god no no what do you think the cop is thinking go [ __ ] yourself i got [ __ ] to do on southside west side it’s always by the airport oh really chicago’s hardcore i love Chicago dude i don’t think I don’t think the hardcore part of Chicago is by the airport at all i think that’s it’s right by the United Center uh yeah down in those parts i’ve walked by myself at night well you’re stupid down in those parts that’s a what a stupid person would do back in the day in hardcore Chicago sending a bunch of sound back to KMOX radio who I was working for at the time and I just had to go out and find a cab dude it wasn’t Uber back then so I’m walking around like looking for a cab i’m like “Hey like every time a car would drive by like thinking it’s a cab.” Eventually a cab picked me up and and drove me but yeah that was hardcore but that wasn’t that big of a deal i was going through some of the worst i was going through some of the worst neighborhoods in the country you don’t You just don’t know how to tell a story without overexaggerating everything and then and still in the end of the story it doesn’t even among the worst among the worst neighborhoods in the country not right there walking through not right there dude not right there you would not have been able to in New York you’re you know you’re on the Empire State Building and you know your pictures everywhere next to that supermodel and that’s pretty cool you know you can still hide in New York but you’re talks to people and it was legit and that’s why you’re the first one to [ __ ] throw that out there and it blew up it blew up and I know that made you feel good do you know that um made you feel good did it of course like you because that means that’s still your job your endorphins there it is you looked at that tweet probably a million times seeing it climb up and your endorphins is like doing a line of coke you felt like doing a gangster line of coke you think I just did a gangster line of coke by tweeting that your endorphins were moving so much to where is probably the equivalent of doing a fatty line of coke i didn’t I didn’t ate it i didn’t no I didn’t so good you the tweet dude that’s not a random tweet you worked for that you talked to the right people you know the right people and they gave you the right answer on what’s going on and you tweeted before anybody you were on cloud n and but I will say and it blew up and I thought it would get some attention i didn’t think it would blow up that much cuz listen I’m not I don’t scroll scroll through Twitter every day i don’t study Kim Maddie i don’t study everybody’s timelines i don’t know what’s what has been reported and what hasn’t been so there’s did ask a few people is this already out there and they had said no not officially some people are saying hey well everyone kind of already knew that i apparently not i mean the way that it that it blew up i think a lot of people were assuming that maybe a contract extension wouldn’t get done between Marner and Toronto by July 1 he field offers and then come back to Toronto and see but to me let me just say this about Mitch Mner i don’t think his decision is based solely on money i really don’t and I think it’s a it’s a lifestyle man it’s a way of life i hear he’s got police presence cam outside of his house on a daily basis because of the threats and some of the other stuff that he’s been dealing with like who wants to live like that i’m not saying that every athlete who plays in Toronto is going to have to deal with that but when you’re a superstar player as popular as he is and you’ve been as popular as he’s been for as long as he’s been popular and like I feel this about Mitch Mark man i watch him play and I know he takes a lot of heat in Toronto and he’s made some costly turnovers and he’s maybe shied away a little bit in the corners stuff like that but I feel like you put him on Vegas you put him on a different team because it’s not just Mner in Toronto it’s a collection of the entire team it’s all the other superstars they have as well you can have a Marner but you can’t have him surrounded by three other star players who are also soft you know what I’m saying yeah you can have one of them in the corner who don’t you know who doesn’t go in the corner who’s not winning battles and all that but still making great plays and contributing offensively and stuff like that even though maybe you would have liked to see that a little bit more from him in the playoffs oh yeah but it’s one thing to blame Marner or to blame Matthews but it’s not about them individually i’m convinced when you watch them play in the playoffs i just think it’s the way the entire team has been built so then you collectively put all these guys together and they’re all kind of soft then the finished product is what it is you put them on a different team i think Vegas would be a great spot for him i just feel like that’s where he’s going to end up going because it’s just like a Vegas thing to do you know what I mean yeah it’s so Vegas to go out and get a Mitch Mner and you know they’re going to have some extra money to play with now with Pro situation if in fact he goes a long-term injury and doesn’t play do we know what’s I don’t know listen he’s got the knee situation that’s been going on from what I understand but I don’t know if I said this last week or not like were we cryptic about it were you Well it I got the text remember during the recording when we were recording someone texted me yeah and knowing Pro like he’s not like chasing anything like he’s won a couple of cups he’s had the international success I do think family life is important to him I think like just as important if not maybe even more important than playing hockey at this stage so as much as injury as I I think is a part of it and injury weighed into his decision to not play in the four nations I also don’t think he cared to go like leave his family for a few weeks and go do was his kids were obligated he’s had issues with that in the past i just don’t feel like he wanted to fulfill the obligations required to go play in that tournament in the middle of the season he’s like “No I’m just not going to go.” So injury was probably a part of that just like injury is probably a part of his decision to not play next year if it’s not all of the decision I don’t know but at the same time if you know Pro he’s just not chasing some type of long legacy maybe the way a lot of other He’s done a lot man he’s been involved in a lot of different things i do think that you know like what I’m saying like Cory Perry still like Yeah he’s got some proof it’s not him yeah it’s not pro and maybe Cory Perry doesn’t have the family issue with the kids like who knows what’s going on with that he’s still keep playing cory Perry wants to keep playing no doubt he loves he and he wants to win another cup can you imagine going to five I know Stanley Cup finals but I bet you I bet you pro though was like “No I don’t want to go to Four Nations i’m [ __ ] beat up like it’s been long i’ve been playing so many playoff games and regular season games.” But then he watched it and he’s probably like “hm okay so that’s a different story.” He’s probably like “God damn it.” But I also think some of these guys who have made so much money are like “How much are we getting paid to do it?” I agree is it is it worth it to go make a handful of money when you don’t need the money it’s not enough money i think they get paid a little bit or whatever that’s not it no for foreign nations but when you’re watching that’s an NHL event those guys did get paid some money and I’m sure you got paid some money to win the tournament i hope so but so listen what you’re saying I agree with for a normal person who would be watching that maybe have that that that FOMO kind of creep in and be like damn I should have gone with all your buddies there all your Canadian buddies and they’re fighting and they’re getting 10 million people all his buddies does he I don’t Well he probably has a couple of them you’ve been in the game a long time that’s what I mean like I think he’d rather go hang out with his wife and kids than go hang out with his hockey buddies we weren’t even that pumped up for the damn four nations me and you were chirping like what’s going to happen i think I think I don’t want to speak for him but he he may have felt the same way that a lot of other people on the outside were thinking like what is this madeup tournament but until you watched it and it got so many [ __ ] views so that and you’re like I could be so we didn’t see that coming and then you win the reason why it became so exciting and so popular was because USA was like fighting everybody at the beginning of the game you know if they weren’t fighting Cam would we still be saying the same thing i think people would still love it and love the hockey part of it but it was the intensity that came with the political dynamic was a huge factor too whether they fought or not like we wanted us to win they wanted like there was a lot more to it so and it been a while since we’ve seen the I know the two countries go if you’re a player though and you if you’ve worked so hard man and you’re so competitive and you won yeah I get it man you want to Sometimes you’re like I want I need my family yeah there’s things going down but then you sit back and you’re chilling and the kids are screaming over here and this is going on over there and me me and you’re like watching the four nations like “Oh my god I know.” But do you think listen I’ve talked to veteran players in the past who retired at like 37 38 like kind of your typical age for a star player to retire you know and one player prominent player said to me a long time ago he goes “You know I I just aged out like I was I looked around the plane and I’m hanging out with a bunch of 23 24 year olds we have we have nothing in common nothing and it’s just not you know some guys Cory Perry’s just a little bit different we’ve seen other players do that you know Chris Chelio stuck around for forever brett Favre did it in football fra Farra they just don’t know how to get away from it but then you’re so old to where your coaches are your age and they’re kind of like talking to you talking down to you because they’re and you’re like 41 who ran the D for the Blues this past season was younger than Ryan Sudter you know awesome guy by the way who ryan Sudter weber weber webbber’s the best the [ __ ] awesome guy so is Ryan Sudter they’re all awesome you know I changed my opinion but you’re right though with that because I didn’t really know him but like you’re hanging out with younger kids you’re not really I mean you’re you’re around like even on the road like Suit’s doing his own thing like he’s not No exactly all the young kids hang they do stuff he’s got family places they probably follow him around do his stuff he’s probably on the computer working business who knows you know you’re missing your kids that’s the thing your kids grow up and playing hockey and all that stuff i don’t Let’s look at your phone is there You could look at Twitter I think and know how much you spend on Twitter really i’m Maddie can I break down how Andy How much time Andy spends on Twitter i probably spend more time I bet you he spends more time on Twitter than [ __ ] 99.99999% of the people i probably 999 I probably spend more time on Instagram you stared at that tweet that you posted for 5 hours straight he’s like doing a bunch of [ __ ] blow god dang good for you though you deserve that had you know some injuries in LA he’s been a good player for a long time but like you’re letting 22year-old with upside leave your organization to bring in these guys and then I felt like okay maybe it was the right decision because now here they are maybe the veteran players are going to shine as you get into the Stanley Cup final arverson can’t even play now he’s playing like 10 minutes a game in and out of the lineup skinner in and out of the lineup these guys don’t notice him for Edmonton they better get some players and if I’m Conor McDavid and his contract is coming up it’s like yeah I want to win a Stanley Cup in Edmonton but can I win a Stanley Cup in Edmonton when when we don’t have all the pieces he can’t do it on his own i don’t care how great you are you can’t just do it on yeah because I’m like this guy here you’re in Arizona but did you pick Arizona or are you in Arizona because you live there and your mom’s from there so it’s like more like home for you yeah it’s a little bit of a combo i mean uh all my mom’s side of the family’s from here but um it really started like during COVID when there was like nowhere to go train except for Florida and Arizona those are like the only two spots so we came down here and there’s like a really good group of guys um like working out and skating and obviously I just like to golf and the lifestyle down here is really nice but it’s hot as balls um in the summer but kind of get used to it so so hot hey we just hit record and we just go where’s Keller’s house did he sell his house with that golf course in the backyard he’s in Scottdale still um he’s actually here right now but I’m in Poria which is like 40 minutes west of Scottsdale so I’m in the uh the lower uh tax bracket little Yeah baby little little more blue there her whole life and then uh trying to get her to uh switch and come out out to Arizona full-time in the summers we’re slowly making that transition so she play she play basketball there no she’s actually a dance oh my god her basketball team is amazing breed yeah yeah she’s tall though she’s like 5’9 our big Our oldest boy is huge he’s like 90th percentile for height and weight he’s a monster oh my god connecticut’s beautiful though man like it it was really nice you could find a badass house ideally it would be like nice we We got a place in u in Milford it’s like near Bridgeport like kind of near the water so like that’d be ideally like a good spot to go to in August when it’s like 120 here you know yeah dude so is that how you split the time up you go to you go to uh Connecticut when it gets really hot you use your lakehouse there or what we’ve actually been doing it the opposite like we’ve been going like June May end of May June in Connecticut and then July and August out here just cuz that’s like usually when I’m skating so there’s not there’s not a ton of guys skating out in Connecticut right now so better group to work out and skate with out here they’re all down are like the only guys that are here like I would say probably the whole summer obviously Austin pops in and out he has he goes places but is Bieber there is he bringing Bieber with him or what i’ve never seen him here i’m sure he comes down every I got questions for him but um like Mark Castellic is here um N is usually here i think he’s in Minnesota now but um there’s a pretty solid group especially when like the Yachts were still here there was there was a lot of guys i think uh Jonathan Taves is out here working out and skating right now have you seen him skate what’s the scouting report i haven’t seen him yet but my brother’s been skating saw him out here a couple times said he looks really good so how’s your brother doing he’s good he’s coming back from surgery um he had kind of a that the that year in Bridgeport was a mess so Oh god yeah didn’t win that many games at home he was Yeah he was just trying to grind through that season get out of there but um he’s doing good now he’s just rehabbing his he I think he tore something in his thumb fighting his like last game of the season so he’s uh he’s better now he’s starting to work out fully he’s golfing a little bit now so um I think he’s doing good he’s just looking for a place to sign now yeah I saw he put up some penalty minutes and stuff man so he’s Where’d you get your height cuz your dad’s around the same height as your brother right he’s uh a little taller than my brother and then I’m a little taller than him he’s like 6’3 my brother’s 6’1 and I’m 66 or so my mom’s side of the family is all really big she’s one of um four sisters and they’re all like 5’9 plus oh god way bigger than Andy way bigger than me you and your dad don’t look alike just so you know i know i’m I look more like my mom thank goodness you look like your brother too yeah you do yeah me and my brother look very similar god you grew up and like you’re just going you’re just like tra like you play you stay somewhere for a couple years you leave like were you ever like dad I got a girlfriend I really like her and he’s like nope we got to go and you’re like god damn it just the gypsy lifestyle we were just every two to three years we just pick up and move everything got used to it I actually liked it you know you just kind of by year two or three you’re just like ready to move on you know sucks obviously you meet you meet friends and like you got to leave them and you know you’ll probably never see them again but um most of my friends were in the hockey world anyways so you run run into him like down the road like Swayman for example like I played with him when I was 12 in Alaska and then we played together again in like worlds and play against him all the time so it’s just funny like stuff like that but yeah school friends you kind of just get used to like packing up and moving what was the worst place you played though you bring up Alaska not that that would be a bad place but that’s hardcore up there like was there any place where you’re like “Dad can you sign somewhere else can you sign in San Diego can you get the hell out of here honestly Alaska was probably my favorite outside of Arizona Alaska is probably the f my favorite place I’ve ever lived just cuz like it was the perfect age for me and my brother we were both like 13 14 snowboarded got into all the hiking fishing hunting all that stuff out there um Poria was kind of a there’s not much out there when we were in in Illinois for four years poria Illinois poria baby not not much out there dude i just uh took my kid god he had we played team Illinois but like they met us in Peoria we came from St louis and we actually played games there and I was like what is and I had been to Peoria a couple times to watch the Rivermen play and whatnot but I didn’t remember it being that isolated of a town i’m like there is nothing going on here in Poria but but there’s tough neighborhoods there man tough neighborhoods the the hockey there too like once we got to like uh me and my brother we played for the Junior Riverman and then got like too good to play for them and then the only other like good team around the area was in Chicago so my mom was driving us three plus hours every every weekend to go play up there so it just became like a little bit too much so luckily we got uh my dad got a job in Alaska we moved out of there but um I mean it’s not like I hated my time there i met some good people out there but um yeah I say that’s probably like the most It was god awful it’s all good the junior riverman i never even heard that’s amazing that you played in Poria i forgot that you lived there cuz I remember seeing your dad around like main camp and got to know your dad a little bit when he was working in the blues organization did you ever run into any grizzlies in Alaska like any bear encounters i personally didn’t my brother did a few times actually um I I played little league there too so in the summers my brother like if he wasn’t playing would just come and there was like a trail behind one of the the diamonds we would play at and uh he was like riding his bike with his buddy and they came up on a black bear like a mom and its cubs like probably like he said probably 20 to 25 ft from it and him and his buddy just panicked like dropped their bikes and started running the other way which is not what you’re supposed to do so but that’s I think the closest encounter he’s ever had to one when I’ve gone fishing I’ve seen them like across the river but like they just kind of mind their own business but that’s that’s about it mostly moose encounters like you get those all the time they’re just wandering the streets there they’ll mess you up too they can be dangerous you got to keep your distance away from the moose they have more from those than than bears up there really yeah driving your car into They’ll just They’ll just trample people like if you go up and like you get these idiot teenagers that’ll like throw stuff at them and they’ll just trample them so listen i went to college in Arizona and I was working on the student uh broadcast it wasn’t even the student run it was like a real station and I went to the great Alaska shootout for like 10 days dude it was like a huge basketball tournament up there and there was a couple moose and like I remember getting up close to the moose to take a picture and people screaming at me like “Don’t get too close to the moose.” You’re that guy i didn’t I didn’t know they could like dumb tourist oh my god i’m I’m thankful that it didn’t alaska is an amazing state dude i would live there full time if I could yeah it’s the best in the summer too the sun never goes down it’s like you’ll be sitting around a campfire at like 3:00 a.m and you’re like “Why am I so tired?” And it’s just like It looks like it’s noon sun’s just It’s the best in the summer and the worst in the winter when I was there Thanksgiving and it’s expensive as hell up there too man like there’s a lot of people it’s It’s tough up there eddie thinks he’s going to go up there and be Macyver i’d live off the land is what I do it was so dark dude it was dark all day long in no Thanksgiving time school and it’d be pitch black you’d leave school and it was pitch black god awful dude depressing i didn’t care because I was 13 and I would just play out every school had an outdoor rink so I just go play hockey as soon I was done at school you go play with your buddies and then go to practice so it didn’t bother me but I’m sure like my mom and dad it was probably like “That sucks you better have a rifle bears.” I didn’t have one you can’t just kill a bear okay you can’t just kill a bear like that you go to jail for No the real estate the real estate agents when they show you houses dude they carry rifles i’ve seen it on You’ll go to jail if you kill one what’s the worst winter alaska or Buffalo buffalo by far really it’s it’s just like Alaska to be honest with you the winters are not very like where I was in Anchorage wasn’t like crazy cold but when I’ve been in Buffalo like the first is is the last year wasn’t as bad but the first like four or five years when I lived like down by the lake oh oh freezing the wind and like the ice chill you would get down there is is insane and it’s on top of it it’s just gray all the time so you know the lake effects yeah were you there for those a couple of those horrific lake effect snows were you you were probably out of town you came in and your your your car has 5 ft of snow on it no I was I was there for Christmas like when they had the worst one they’ve had in a long time we lost power at our place and we went to the hotel that’s attached to the rink and my dad was driving in and he actually got stuck in the storm there’s like a driving van in Buffalo they weren’t supposed to be on the roads and uh you like legit couldn’t see outside your windshield it was like just a white blanket in front of your windshield my dad got stuck we had to go get a cop that would pick him up on a uh what’s it a snowmobile cuz he couldn’t get to him in a in a car and he was like stuck out in the hood in Buffalo for like 25 or for like what was it he got there like 3:00 we didn’t see him till 9:00 p.m he was stuck out there for like 5 hours oh my god dude that’s what it’s like dude my whole family’s from Buffalo too Ta just so you know like my Williamsville baby that’s where I’m from yeah so I just moved out to Clarence it’s a little better out there like especially being out there in the summer too like I’ve been there like in and out for the summer it’s It’s pretty nice out there i like it a lot you get recognized everywhere you go there i mean you stand out like a sore thumb man yeah i mean Yeah but I feel like everyone there is pretty good about it it’s like it’s a pretty like quiet town so like they don’t really bother you they just kind of say what’s up you know i know yeah you’re just getting started man and like I feel like COVID kind of happened and kind of set everything back you know like the whole CO thing right when you get in the league you got to deal with that was that was that god awful or or do you just not know any better for me like I don’t know if it affected me at time because I had the year before like when co the first season of COVID I actually blew out my shoulder and I was done for the whole season i played one game in uh in Buffalo blew out my shoulder i was done for the rest of the season and then the season shut down short um and then I basically had like a lengthened summer to rehab which actually benefited me and then we went into the next year uh which was like no fans and that was a gong show but I think it actually like kind of benefited me in a sense that I had like a longer summer to train and get bigger and like rehab my shoulder and going into that next season where we had no fans because of COVID was like probably the best I felt going into a season um which kind of just kind of kickstarted my career I guess just playing and obviously I had Donnie and he gave me a big opportunity there to play in a bunch of situations but I just felt good so benefited me more than it hurt me for sure donniey’s the best man i talked to him this morning doing my world class research on you yeah great dude oh yeah he loved he loved you man he puncture tires cuz I’ll say this about you dude like cuz you got you were caught up in that trade you go to Buffalo from St louis ryan O’Reilly comes here they win the cup he wins the consm and everyone’s like “Ah the Blues fleeced Buffalo they just crushed Buffalo in the deal.” And now you look at it it’s like you know both sides got a lot out of it and obviously you could make the case both sides won the trade how’d you deal with that pressure man early on of trying to live up to what O’Reilly did here not what he did in Buffalo like did that did that creep into your mind at all or were you able just to kind of put that aside and just focus on your own game it definitely did i mean not at first cuz I didn’t realize I think how big of a how big of a deal it was at first and then I think after they won the cup and you know he wins the Kon Smith it kind of sinks in a little bit like oh like that was a you know a big piece for them that helped them win the cup which you know obviously that’s why you make the trade is to win and then you start hearing all the all the stuff around town but um fortunate for me like I had my dad so I just kind of was talking to him all the time and you know just the old school like you can’t controll any of the out outside noise just put your nose to the grindstoneone like do what you can do every day to get better and help the team win and the chips will kind of fall where they do and that’s pretty much the approach I took I mean obviously it’s tough especially in Buffalo you hear you hear a lot of the noise but you just got to try your best to just focus on what you can do and that’s pretty much all I had so you know what man it’s amazing like you look at some of the players who you play with in Buffalo like who are no longer there I mean I’m just reminding myself even was there and Brandon Mour and Sam Reinhardt who’s like about to you know win another Stanley Cup potentially we’ll see what happens in the series but Jack Eel dude you had so many great superstars that like no wonder you guys have kind of had to rebuild and like you know you had some great players there i could only imagine how good you guys would be considering where you’re at now in your career how good you are if you had a chance to play with those guys so what’d you learn from those guys like which of those guys who I just mentioned did you were you closest with that you really kind of connected with the most yeah I mean I was always great to me um you know I lived my first year I lived like couple of doors down from him um you know I always remember like hearing like you know he had a bad rap right around Buffalo just like kind of around like you know he’s kind of a [ __ ] or whatever and to me he was always great and I never got that from him um you know I think you just see that he’s just a competitor he wanted to win he’s been in Buffalo for so long and kind of the same thing that’s going on now you know just weren’t winning and he was doing everything he could to help the team and the organization and just didn’t work out but I I just like the way that he approached the game how how hungry he was to win how hungry he was to be the best on the ice every single time um so just like learning from from him not even just um talking to him but just more kind of from afar just watching him you know in games and in those situations wanting to be the guy that demanded the puck the guy that made a difference in the game um always just kind of made me respect him and um want to be like him as a player too um I like that energy that passion the emotion he shows um so so for me that was someone that I really look looked up to and and tried to emulate my game after as far as being a leader and um just kind of a guy that can try to take games over are you surprised Reinhardt has turned into the goal scorer he like did you think he had that in him i mean this year he scored 39 he didn’t score 57 like he did last year so he’s probably closer to the 35 goal score than he is to the 55 goal score but 40 goal score whatever whatever it is i mean the guy obviously is a great player did you see that in his game like that he could just take off like that he can He’s a pure goal scorer like he’s one of the smarter players I think I’ve ever seen play the game just his ability to find those like little pockets and especially on the power play him and the bumper is just he’s unbelievable there but his ability to find those little soft spots on the ice to to get open and I think he’s one of those guys that just plays the game so like just the right way that the puck seems to always find him in the right spots which I think it’s not an accident you’re doing something right when that happens um so I’m not shocked i mean he’s just has a natural ability to just put the puck in the back of the net um I mean he did it in Buffalo for a number of years and on a losing team and now he goes to Florida and that’s why I think you see the numbers just skyrocket so um I think this year obviously what did he put up like 30 something 39 39 I think this year I would say is probably like a a more of a down year i think he’s 40 plus every year especially playing on that team with those players like he’s he’s going to score a ton of goals there yeah he’s so damn good yeah and and Florida’s damn good too yeah you got to look at you got to look at that team and and and as a player curtain player playing against them like Yeah they they’re pretty [ __ ] loaded they are but they’re also it’s the fact they got all those star players but they all play the team game like they all they all play the system like the way it’s supposed to be played and they’re all bought in like you you can look down their roster like Reinhardt Barov they’re all blocking shots finishing hits like they’re doing everything the right way and that’s I think why they get rewarded and then when you play against them they just give you no room like you have no time or space with the puck they just suffocate you it’s it’s frustrating to play against bennett staring at you not giving you any facial expressions falling on the other goalie he’s falling on your goalie hitting you and scoring a break they’ve got their game down to a science they know it works for them i think like like you said they frustrate teams and frustrate the skill guys and get them out of their head and play a game that’s not theirs and then soon as they do that they know they got you hey man how how much do you hate losing like how tough is that cuz a couple years ago man you almost won or you almost got to the playoffs you guys missed the playoffs by like a point yeah it’s kind of crazy too like Pittsburgh was like losing to like terrible teams down the stretch or whatever was it Pittsburgh who was it man i think it was Pittsburgh right who lost you know down the stretch to Chicago and Columbus i think Pit Yeah Pittsburgh just couldn’t lose like I think two out of three games or something they did to like bad teams at the time whatever it was but at the same time you don’t want to put yourself in a position where you got to rely on other teams to win games for you to get in but I think having a taste of like being that close like makes it even that much worse not winning in the following season the season after that it’s been uh yeah it’s been pretty rough um definitely weighs on you especially like as you get to to where I’m at now in my my career where um the years go by quicker you know and you still haven’t had a playoff game and it just eats at you so it’s been uh for sure difficult last four or five years but the last two have been been real tough your time’s coming man jeff Skinner’s you know he just got in the playoffs for the first time he played over a thousand games and whatever doubt is he a good teammate best teammate one of my best friends uh love it best locker room guy um he’s one of those guys he’s real quiet takes him a while to to open up to guys um I remember my first year he like didn’t say a word to anybody um and then you know he slowly started opening up and he’s one of the low-key funniest guys ever i don’t know if you’ve seen that stuff they put together um between two stalls you’ve seen that stuff on YouTube like it’s all him he writes all of this stuff it’s kind of spin-off of uh Between Two Ferns with Zack Gelf and Ais oh yeah so he he came up with that idea and was was doing but just a great guy great human being um obviously a good player as well can score and um I love playing with him uh one of my favorite linemates I’ve ever played with um yeah I hope he wins it i would love to see him win a cup and it’d be pretty special hey do you got the hardest shot in the league and what kind of stick do you use a short I’ve used a bunch of different I like to mix it up i I usually fall back to the CCM every time um feel like that’s kind of what I go back to i like trying new stuff though um I don’t know i I feel like for a one-timer maybe it’s up there um I feel like my just like taking a slap shot I’m not great at just like wind like skiing into a slap shot like if I was a defenseman probably not i’d say like cool there’s there’s a lot of guys that can pound a puck but probably up there dude you had a one-time that was like at 103 miles per hour or something crazy just say you do i thought you were a Bower guy didn’t you have a deal with Bower i thought you were a Bower guy uh my entry level I did and then I switched to CCM for two years and now I just uh I didn’t like being like basically tied down because I like during the year to switch things up if I get cold just to mix things up so now I have the the freedom to just try whatever can I ask you this what do players make on the like when they sign a deal with Bower or CCM i’m sure it changes depending on how big of a superstar you are but like how much money are guys bringing in by signing with Buffalo Pro in Buffalo probably not a whole lot probably other markets are making a lot more but um I think for CCM I was getting 25 grand cash and then like merchandise as well for three years um and then I backed out of the the last year of my deal just cuz I wanted to be able to use more stuff i felt like the money that I was getting just wasn’t worth it for me to be locked into using their their stuff not that I don’t like their stuff but just to have that freedom if I hey maybe I’m in a rut here i want to try a Bower stick or a True Stick for a few games just for 25 grand dude when you’re making seven plus like they better pay some real money what What about in Buffalo though like are you doing commercials are you driving a free car do you care about any of that stuff are they asking you all are you driving a free Tahoe because Andy just so you know will hook you up with the people in Buffalo if you want a free Tahoe no I don’t have any of that stuff so if you got hookups for me let me know yeah but really though you should though come on Tate i I mean like we do you would think but we’ve also we’ve also been losing every year so like well we’re going to change that deals with guys that are losers so you got we got to start winning then maybe the deals will come are you rolling with Josh Allen you met him yet or no i’ve met him i wouldn’t say I’m rolling with them at all but um you guys definitely He’d rather hang out with you he’d rather hang out with you like I think I would love to get on the golf course with him i think uh I mean I heard he loves golfing and I don’t know if he’s around Buffalo too much in the summertime but um yeah I’ve met him a few times actually we went to a Bills game and went down on the field and saw him there he’s been in our locker room a couple times so pretty cool i mean he’s like a god around there so that’s pretty sick yeah no he I I could see him being cool as [ __ ] yeah absolutely he’s coming from Wyoming man he’s just a different animal you know great player though listen man give me your honest answer how upset were you that you didn’t make the four nations like were you surprised did you think you were going to make it we were upset for you cuz like Yeah because I I thought I was going to be on it and I I mean you hear rumors and like those mock teams that they make and um felt like my name was on a bunch of them so I felt like I had a pretty good shot and then I had a pretty solid start to the season so um I thought I was going to be there and then when it didn’t happen I was pretty pretty rattled to be honest with you but nothing nothing you can do they’re not going to change their mind or whatever so um yeah I think it just defin I think it honestly might have helped me the the last half of the season just kind of playing with a bit of a a spur in my side um it’s kind of proven that I can kind of hang with the big boys and um I think I did a pretty good job of that so we’ll see what happens next you’ll be you’ll be on that Olympic team you will be come on now so listen and we we’ll get into the world championships and whatnot but did they call you do they does like Billy G call you and say “Hey we’re not going to pick you for the for nations but but stay ready because we may need you.” Cuz they called you towards the end of the tournament when they were having injuries right yeah that’s exactly what happened um he called me and just said “Hey like you know it was a tough discussion we had uh you know a lot of guys obviously a lot of good USA players that they got to go through and put together what they thought was the the best team.” and um he said obviously this is this I think was in like November when I got the call maybe uh maybe a little later than that and he’s like obviously a lot can happen from now the tournament so just you know stay ready um and then I actually got the call like they had injury problems and I went there um as like a backup in case anything happened um which was cool to kind of just even be in that environment watch the game live was pretty cool um but yeah that’s that’s basically how the conversation went which which I respect at least you know like called me and gave me their side of it and um said I had a chance so hey man you’ll be you’ll be you’ll be all good now and they probably recognized that even during the tournament they’re probably like “We should have brought Tade.” No doubt but uh that won’t be an issue so going to the World Championships was that a no-brainer or was that to kind of further put your stamp on things and prove that you belong on that team next year yeah I so I wanted to go the season before um for the for nations to kind of get my name in there but I hurt myself like the last game of the season and um just figured it was not worth it to go grind through a tournament and make it worse or just I felt like I should just use the summer to get 100% so I could help Buffalo next year and um I think this this time around you know I was healthy and felt good and I was like well it’s a no-brainer now right olympics coming up good time to make a name for myself and especially with not being selected for the four nations I kind of wanted to prove some stuff so um yeah it was it was a no-brainer to go this year were you still rooting for USA in the games against Canada yeah yeah of course not going to root for Canada oh man there you go T come on hey but like were you surprised that Canada lost to Denmark were you guys were you guys watching a game like oh my god i was actually beyond shocked we were so there’s like uh maybe four or five of us we went to the movies and uh we were like watching the movie and like halfway through I think it was like Vastic like showed me his phone he’s like “Dude Canada’s losing right now.” And if they lost we had to like pack all of our stuff and fly out the next morning like first thing in the morning to go to Sweden if if Canada won we were staying in Denmark so after the movie we sprinted home and like packed all of our stuff up and uh that was wild i couldn’t I couldn’t believe it do you guys all see each other like what’s it like at the World Championships is everyone just like having a good time like because you know USA first time you guys have won the gold medal in 90 years or whatever so like what is the approach i mean how serious do you guys take the tournament i think um I mean I’ve been to three of them like the first two are just like a huge party you know just go experience Europe play some hockey games um obviously want to win but I feel like it’s more of like time to just hang out and just drink and and party or whatever and this one like right from day one like when we got there it was like just a different feel it was like we’re here to win um not that we didn’t go out but like it was just a it had a different feel to it this time around um a lot more serious more of like a what I would imagine a playoff would feel like um as far as just the approach to the games and stuff um which is why I wanted to go too like I wanted to be in important games like haven’t been playing meaningful games in Buffalo so I wanted to go play for something and and try to win and especially going over there and being like a big piece of the team um felt like there was more of that responsibility um to actually get the job done so um that was something that excited me about going over there did you uh what did you guys do afterwards sit in the locker room for a while then what yeah we were in the locker room for I think like two or three hours after after we won and then we met back up at the hotel with like all the families and people that we had coming over uh to watch us and I think we had you know party there for a little bit with with all the families and then um I think the team went out like after to the wall which was like right across the street in Sweden went out there for a bit brought the cup over had some fun and then everyone parted ways at different times um we had like bus schedules that left at like 3:15 3:45 5:30 6 just kind of throughout the the morning um yeah it was great it was a great time had a blast listen I got to ask you like a little like hockey nerdy question though like the game-winning goal like when a defenseman’s playing you like that like Jamal Mayor’s former blue doing a camp right now he’s always telling the kids to shoot through the stick of the defenseman whatever i And the kids having a hard time kind of understanding exactly what he’s saying but I showed my kid the highlight this morning of your goal being like I think that’s what Coach Mayers is talking about shooting through the stick what’s your approach when the defenseman kind of plays you like that where he’s got a gap on you but he kind of goes down to one knee like what are you looking at in that specific play there Ta I think like anytime in general I come down on a on a defenseman if I can get to like within a few feet of the top of the circle like I’m thinking shot um and I feel like for me it’s just kind of putting a puck in a spot where I want them to reach for so I can pull it and use them as a screen whether I’m shooting through their legs or off the side of them um so I think just in that situation like I was trying to just position the puck where I felt like he would kind of reach for it or go down on a knee and then just pull it in and I feel like with my reach I can pull it a lot farther than most people and especially I I use a a really short stick too so like I can get it into my feet more to to shoot it from there and um just changing the angle i think especially you use a defenseman as a screen like most of the times you’re not going to beat a high level goalie with you know no screen from the top of the circle he’s if he’s going to see it he’s going to save it so I think just not being able to see the release of it coming off your blade is a lot tougher for them um so anytime you can use that D as a screen and just shoot by him like whether it’s through his legs through his feet um it’s got a better chance so that’s all I was thinking on that especially with Kulie driving the net like that taking that other D like I knew there was going to be other traffic going to the net so he’s worried about that as well so I was just thinking shoot it get it on net and make him make a save have you always shot the puck like that like who did Matthew shoot like that when you were at the US program like how you kind of got pulled into your feet like you’re saying you know like and then you know snap it that way like you and him have kind of like both mastered that that kind of you know pull it in and drag the puck to your feet and release it that way yeah I feel like Austin’s always shot like that um it’s something like I always worked on with my dad in the summers um just like working on different releases getting the puck on and off your stick um not necessarily like that has to be the hardest shot but just like getting it on and off quick or if you have it changing the angle because you know you get the goalie set on on the puck and you can change it um just little skill stuff in the summers that you work on and um I feel like doing it repetitively you get better at it and some things you feel like work better for you and um I felt like at a young age I always knew I had a pretty good shot and that’s kind of something I’ve continued to develop and as I’ve gotten older and work on different things did you did you do that as a kid like uh in in the garage like did you just have every day you went out there and just started ripping pucks tow drag rip tow drag started it started in uh Alaska for us actually my dad built a little like shooting room in our garage um we would shoot every day hundreds of pucks me and my brother um and then we moved uh later on to Oyster Bay New York and we would shoot in the driveway same thing um so just always shooting pucks in the driveway which I feel like most kids do nowadays anyways um but I feel like where it really took off is when I’d get on the ice with my dad and um like work on actual like skills stuff like the techn like technical stuff of like transferring your weight like pointing to your target like little things you get taught as a kid right but you still need those reminders as as you you get older and I feel like um for me like once I was big enough to actually like use the technology of the stick is kind of where those fundamentals that I learned at a young age kind of made it even better for me where like a lot of kids now don’t really know how to shoot a puck they just kind of flick it and then use the stick and the stick kind of shoots the puck for them whereas if you know what you’re doing like I used 120 flex two-piece when I was 12 so what are you using now oh wow uh right now 95 95 flex CCM um and I have a huge toe curve dude it’s like you sound like Mike Hoff like when Mike Hoffman played here for a year during co he would always talk about understanding how to use his stick like he had an unbelievable shot this guy could like just absolutely rip the puck and he just knew how to use a stick how to use the flex and like understood the mechanics of the of the stick so it’s kind of interesting hear you hear you say that your hands are unbelievable though man like your ability to handle the puck is is is unbelievable were you always the biggest guy on the team or did you hit a growth spurt like when you were a teenager yeah no I was always one of the like smaller guys is I wouldn’t say like smallest but I was definitely like middle of the pack to smaller growing up and I was always like really skilled like just good hands um good pretty pretty good one-on-one skill and then I just hit a huge growth spurt um kind of when I went to the program I went from like 6 foot to 6’4 in that season so I grew four inches in one season gained 25 pounds and then continued to grow a little bit more once I was at Yukon which was kind of a little bit of a setback for me because had to relearn how to do everything skating and um stuff like that just getting used to my body but I feel like my hands were kind of just the one thing that stuck with me and had always felt just comfortable um so I think it was just the fact that I was one of the smaller guys and relied on my skill to make plays at a young age and then once I hit the gross sphere I was just a big guy with good hands it’s an interesting story how you made it to the program too because you didn’t make it you didn’t even go to the camp right and then you go to the USA national like festival that they have whatever and and I think that’s where they saw you and they were like damn we already picked the team like this guy’s unbelievable and then a couple kids left the following year and they were like we need to replace him with two other players i think Donnie Granado said he knew who those two players were going to be it was going to be you and Tro Troy Terry so he went back to the US festival that year just to confirm it watched you guys play one day and and then I guess the rest is history so when they when they made that call to you to invite give you the invite to go to the US program was it a no-brainer did you want to go like was it like right off the bat you were like “Yeah I’m going.” And what did that mean for the future of your career to go there yeah it was actually so I was driving in the car on the way back with my dad from that national camp um and we were already set to go to Salisbury i was going to go play prep school um at Salisbury and um got a phone call on the drive back from Donnie and he was like “Hey like we want your kid to to come be you know part of our team at the program i didn’t even know what that was.” And uh you know hang up the phone or whatever me and my dad were talking about and he’s like “You’re going like this is a no-brainer you’re going to play for USA you’re going to get exposure play with all the best guys in the country and I was like super nervous like I had no clue what I was walking into um and then when I got there you know like was one of the the last guys like 13th forward fourth line so um didn’t play a whole lot but the exposure like just getting my name out there and playing with these guys playing against college players as a 17-year-old practicing against guys like Matthews Kachchuck every day just made me a way better hockey player um so I feel like it didn’t even really matter that I wasn’t playing a ton just the fact that I was there getting that experience and and kind of developing it on the ice um you know in practices would have Would I have loved to play in games more and and develop that way yeah but obviously you’re also playing with the best kids in the country at your age and um but that that’s kind of what kickstarted it and then got my name out there i went to Yukon a year early and that’s where I got an opportunity to actually play in games and situations play first line power play and got to play and had that confidence coming from the program that you know I could hang with all these guys so must be pretty good um and that just kind of gave me that confidence that I can produce and score and make plays and be a guy that the the team needs and leans on so I think it was great for me um obviously met a lot of good guys and um continue to play against and with them so it’s been it’s been fun it’s been a crucial piece of my career but everyone’s path is different so um that’s always something you got to remember too right like would I have been fine if I went to Salisbury probably but um that’s kind of what what led me to the NHL and um that was it was a good time and you’re growing four inches in six months i mean it’s interesting you’re saying you’re not even playing you know what I Like but you appreciate the opportunity of being able to go headto-head against these guys in practice cuz I know some people who have like left the program because they weren’t playing you know what I mean it’s like they rather just go play in the USHL somewhere else and be a firstline player what why’ you pick Yukon like because they were a relatively new program right you led the nation in power play goals your your freshman season yeah they were they were pretty much brand new i think they weren’t even really on my radar to be honest i knew I wanted to play hockey east um I toured most of the hockey schools but I knew I wanted to go somewhere um where I was going to get an opportunity to actually play and show what I was capable of and obviously that didn’t happen at the program you know I was just kind of you know third fourth line in and out of the lineup whatever so I didn’t really get to showcase that skill or what I thought I had um to offer and I knew if I went to like a a BC or a BEu I might have gotten you know buried there um or not been able to to show what I’m capable of so I figured if if I’m going to go somewhere go somewhere you’re going to play and get an opportunity and for me it was Yukon if fell in love with the campus um I really liked Kavanaaugh as a coach it just kind of seemed like a good fit for me and um obviously worked out well hey I gotta ask you about that that Nason hit and we’ve had Rob Ray who else do we have on barney uh Andrew Peters and how dirty was that hit to you and and were you surprised by the feedback of the fans getting pissed off no one jumped in like was that surprising to you um it was a it was a weird situation to be honest with you cuz when the h when the hit happened I didn’t even know what happened like I didn’t see him i didn’t know what was going on i just like kind of blacked out came too and then was kind of helped off the ice and then I was sitting in the locker room doing the concussion test or whatever and then after afterwards I like watched the video of it and then I saw the hit from that perspective so I never really saw the hit live obviously like didn’t see it um but watching it on replay yeah I thought it was a little dirty i would have liked someone to step in for sure i was a little little shocked by that um but yeah it was just a all around kind of weird weird situation to be a part of so um yeah I don’t really know how to answer that one well did didn’t Lindy Ruff didn’t he like address the team about it the next day like what was said internally i mean because listen if I was in your shoes and somebody because Cam has had some cheap shots on me and the alumni game I hit him one time i didn’t mean to do it he elbowed me in the head like I’m still dealing with some hearing loss and whatnot but like I wanted Nobody stepped in on cam either like after I got hit so I would want someone to step in but like did your teammates apologize to you did they come up to you and be like “Dude we didn’t know it was you.” Like cuz we’ve had we’ve had Jason Zucker on the podcast and some of these guys I feel like I know they’re they’re all you know our team is great guys and they all they all said sorry and like should have done something like even if we didn’t see it or knew what happened like we should have stepped in and at least done something which Yeah I get it like the game happens fast maybe you didn’t know what to do in the situation or how to react i don’t know because I wasn’t in that situation or I was the one laying on the ice but um like Lindy came in and just said like that can’t happen again and if you see someone laying on the ice or someone gets hit like that like you better step in and do something i think after that there was a great response and I don’t think we had another problem like that the rest of the season which which is good hey who was the poor soul that got called up and had to fight Olivier the next game who was that Tate that poor kid’s like I wasn’t even a part of this i was like I wouldn’t even hear now I got to come up and fight the biggest toughest guy in the league who was that dude dennis Gilbert shout out Shout out to Dennis Gilbert great teammate and uh he’s tough like props to him for doing that not that that really had an impact on the last game but I mean it sent the message and um I respected it a lot i was watching that press box fired up so um yeah how long are you out for i probably owe him a couple dinners you didn’t miss that many games no I uh I actually passed the concussion test so I was good to go i think um I had like whiplash too like my neck was pretty tight and um I think I only missed maybe like two or three games okay that happened years ago with Ryan Miller too he got rammed by Luch nobody Nobody did anything to Luch we had him we’ve had both of them like I don’t know nobody did anything to me you know little different little different animal i know well it all it also it also happened it also happened in St louis with David Pon and Joe Thornton and Chaser came out and called the guys out one time and it was a whole thing so listen that’s it’s not unique by any stretch of the imagination i know hey but that shouldn’t happen hopefully it doesn’t happen again you want to see Exactly you’re the prince they shouldn’t even have to see what happens it’s like Tage is on the ice that’s like alert alert are you So are you a devout Christian do you cuss on the ice i I do i mean I shouldn’t but it’s you know the game the nature of the game you get into it you get heated and I I play the game with a lot of emotion and and get pretty pretty fired up so um yeah i mean it’s it’s hard not to can I tell you what to say to people slavven doesn’t Can I tell you what to say to people just go up to him and be like “The Lord is watching you.” If you would say that to me I’d be like “Oh God.” I’d really I’m telling you yeah it would scare me it’s a reminder it’s a reminder hey your five goal game dude like that was I mean listen that may never happen again right i mean it it hardly ever happens as it is no are you just feeling that game like are you surprised yourself you’re like what is going on here and they were all beautiful goals by the way i was watching that on television i was like damn you’re so good cuz I’ll go back to when you came into St louis we’ll talk about that after you answer this question though but like that specific game is that just one of those man just perfect games for you or what because you had six points in the game yeah I mean that’s probably about as good as you can feel in a game i I think I would imagine it’s probably what McDavid feels like every game but it was like we had two power plays I think pretty early that we capitalized on right away um I had points on both of them had a goal and assist on them and then I think uh got another one five on five right after that and they were just you could tell they were defeated like if we scored three on them quick and they you could just tell we had them um and I was just kind of feeling it um it felt like everything I was shooting was going in so I just kept I just kept firing um it just kept going in so I was like just give me the puck and let me keep ripping it so we did and then um yeah hit five and then I think I kind of got shut down by Donnie in the third he didn’t play you yeah I think I like I had five maybe through like halfway through the second and then I think I only had like three shifts in the third or something like that so I was like I was kind of rattled but like not really you know what’s the record in Buffalo i don’t even know actually i think the league record’s seven though is it no I thought it was way i thought it was six yeah yeah baron seven brett Baronson scored six years ago hey do you watch Oie on that one slot just like what you’re doing and you’re like how the hell does he do that stand too right shots like you watching them like I’m just they find a way they know where the puck’s going that you know like the the opposing team and he still finds a way to score these goals i can’t comprehend how Obie can still stand in the same spot and no one just goes and stands next to him but it’s because their their power play is so dangerous they got other other weapons they can hit the bumper and they can attack low like but I mean he’s just it’s insane to watch there’s not even words just the the fact that he can still produce at this this rate at at the age he is is insane has he ever told you you have an amazing shot is he like does he ever tell you on the ice i love watching you play T no no but I would that would get me off my game big time i’d be I’d be in Cloud9 was he your favorite player growing up or No uh believe it or not Malin um was my favorite i always just liked the the similarities between you know tall lanky guy good hands can shoot it loved watching his game and just try to kind of em emulate him and play the way he played he’s not He’s not coming up to you saying “Hey Ta good job.” He doesn’t even know your name no I don’t even know if he speaks English yet he doesn’t want to crosby mike Crosby he asked Kyu for a stick he said like Kyro like Kyro’s like yeah Crosby asked me for my stick during the game whatever for like a charity event or something so Crosby he may ask you for your stick you know he did he did he asked me for it yeah actually uh I think it was two years ago he asked me for one and I was like you want one of my sticks like what the what’s going on here you should have said no to see what his reaction was said [ __ ] you i got one back which is sick oh you got one back from him too yeah of course he better give me one back i don’t really ask I don’t really ask for sticks i wish I did more but um I felt like that was a perfect opportunity to ask him for one i got one of Obies too those are like the two guys that I like had to have when did you when did Crosby or did he ask you during the game or like does the equipment guy come over and ask or how’s that work he actually asked me i went to that um like Vegas um media thing like the media thing yeah and I was like getting dressed to do like one of the on ice shoots or whatever he was in the locker room he’s like “Hey like during the season is it cool if I grab one of your sticks?” I was like “Yeah of course.” And then I thought he forgot about it and then we played a preseason game and he’s like “Hey like do you mind if I grab that stick?” And I was like “Yeah can I get one of yours?” And he was like “No I’m actually like low right now um I’ll get you during the like middle of the season.” I was like “Okay sweet.” So I gave our trainer one to give to him after the game or after the game and then like played regular season against him and he came up to me like tabbed me on a TV timeout he’s like I got a twig for you after the game i was like this is so sick dude he’s the best yeah but he he was running out i love how he said no he was running out of sticks that’s that’s weird to me he just said not right now he’s like on a road trip whatever but he got for me oh it’s sick yeah exactly i get you hey did you ever get talk to Patrick Berglin did you ever get to know him that well when I was in St not really i mean I was only up and down I was 40 games or whatever and then when we got traded together he only played like half the season then he like left so it was like kind of a weird situation there but yeah I was never really close with him yeah he like We love him he left he did that’s why I’m asking like you know you got to get a Dry Cidle stick man like his stick’s the weirdest stick in the league but is is he similar to Obie but on the other side of the ice where he just kind of and again it’s a similar situation where they’ve got so many weapons on the power play that that’s what leads to him being open all the time because I I don’t understand why they can’t defend him either on the other side of the ice i mean they got so many they got him Hopkins McDavid like who you gonna cover exactly one of them’s going to score but yeah Bard at top just rip bombs so they got they got too many threats too and also he’s just even when you’re he’s like it’s like Obie one of those guys like even when you’re on him he’s still going to score like it’s like Backstrom back in the day like you’re looking at him and he’s just going to sauce it over here anyway like you know exactly where he’s passing he’s passing Oie he’s just going to sauce it right through everybody yep he was so good god hey man I got to ask you about your time here in St louis though obviously it was short it would have been great to see you here a lot longer man i know Blues fans would love to have you in a Blues uniform now putting up 47 and 44 you’re going to score 50 one of these years too man that’s got to be on your bucket list right you know you want to get to 50 right yeah of course okay you may even get to 60 i know the way you score but how do you reflect on your time here in St louis man you made a lot of close buddy a lot of lot of good friends i mean your Traverse City team was one of the best most stacked teams of all time city team with you and Thomas and Kyru and Wman who else was on the team yeah me thomas Kyru Wall-E uh Nolan Stevens who was nasty um we had some really good players we I think we torched that tournament too yeah you guys were so damn good man we were We were really good that was a lot of fun too it’s a great tournament like I had a lot of fun doing those um I enjoyed my time in St louis a ton um you know I think I was probably not ready for the NHL probably came in a little earlier than I should have but um you know all the older guys were great to me um probably had a lot of patience with me um but it was fun i I really liked the city um the fans were great i enjoyed my time there it was kind of one of those things where I was bittersweet when I was traded i would have liked to you know try to evolve my career there but um I was also excited about a fresh start somewhere else but um yeah you never know never know what happens right could end up back there someday but No exactly it all works out i like that thought process dude they And trust me the the organiz they didn’t want to trade you you know what I mean like they’re Rhino like you said earlier it worked out right they got their they got their guy they got the cup so you can’t can’t look back that’s That’s what you That’s why you play the game so how was Mike Yo with you um it was all right he was hard on you wasn’t he i mean not so much that it was hard on me it was just kind of I didn’t really know kind of what my role was like I figured I was not there to score goals right i just was trying to be a good defensive player and I get that we were we were not winning a ton when I was there so if they had to make changes to lineup I was probably the guy was coming out as a young guy which I get it just tell me how it is though you know so no I I I hear you on that man hey before we let you go and you’ve been great man we appreciate it we got to pump your dad’s tires a little bit here man so he’s in Anaheim now right he’s going to be coaching with Q this year is that the plan no I think Q’s bringing on his own guys so he’s right now he’s out there looking for for a job I think um doesn’t know where he’s going to go but he’s he’s looking for a spot okay well he’ll land on his feet somewhere man what’s it like playing against him though like when he’s on the bench in an NHL game do you peek over do you look at him does he look at you like I mean that’s got to be so hard for him to focus on what he’s got to do on the bench when you’re on the ice i don’t know for you how he’s not watching you the whole time you know i mean I don’t I don’t know i for me it’s easy i just play i kind of I see him on warm-ups and look at him make make a face at him or whatever but um once the game starts I kind of I feel like both of us just kind of get into that that zone where you’re not really paying attention to each other um anything like that i will say when I do score on their power play though I I make sure I skate past him and give him a look but there it is let him know that probably fires he’s one of those guys you probably don’t want to fire up though just let him sleep although he can’t do anything to me now so probably saves that’s funny man you’re too big for him man i know but he’s been a great coach give me the one piece of advice the best advice he’s given to you a lot of a lot of parents listen a lot of you know people have kids that are playing no the one thing that he’s told me that’s stuck with me and kind of I try to approach every day with is treat every day like a try out someone’s always trying to take your job so I mean it’s especially relevant for me now where I’m at you know kind of made my way um solidified my spot but there’s always younger talented players coming in that are hungry for that spot and I feel like as soon as you lose that edge it’s when you’re you’re dead so that’s kind of the the way I have to try to approach the game and just every single day try to treat it as a trial like someone’s trying to take your job and just get better every day and luckily it’s worked out for me so it pretty solid piece of advice did you buy him a boat or anything with that big old contract no d golf membership’s good enough for me but that’s good that’s good don’t waste your money that’s all he needs you moved a lot when you were young that’s all he gets plus you’re an America you’re an American hero man damn right you are you know you’re the man Ta i appreciate it dude did Did Trump call you or anything did he say “Hey congratulations good job.” Nothing like that oh we’re we’re supposed to go to the White House though really are you really oh yeah oh dude i don’t know when but we’re supposed to go so Oh hell yeah just waiting on that date the World Championship team is going played together in the World Championships too cuz I’ve been pumping his tires cuz everyone forgets about him in this whole goalending competition for the for the Olympics man don’t forget about Swayman i love what he did in that tournament and how he like was able to you know raise you know his game obviously and played great so yeah he’s a he’s a stud um we he was my goalie when I was in Alaska we played for the the Allstars together when I was 13 12 and 13 we were playing on the same team and then fast forward till now we’re playing on the same team again uh for USA which is pretty wild we talked about it at the tournament it’s just hockey is such a small world you run into the same guys and play either with or against them and it’s it’s pretty I think that’s what makes the game there on the They’re hanging out like this and my and I’m like this and like ah [ __ ] and then I get pinned and my and I’m trying to like lift up it just I’m not trying to sound rude i don’t want I don’t want to I don’t want to get cancelled the most unattractive women in our school were the wrestling they’re the same as They’re the same no they’re not they’re not the football is different than your school they didn’t do that at our school they They did it at our school they call them ratmats or Matt rats they didn’t talk to you those girls were you the only girls in high school oh they love so if you’re paying this potential UFA 7.5 I you got to pay him eight or or 75 what’s Brad Marsh going to get i don’t know dude would you pay him 8 million a year at his age i don’t know man for the like he’s like a teenager or maybe he’s 20 at the time i don’t even know who’s young and it’s his fault it’s his fault that you lost that you’re losing and what what about the veteran guy who’s making money who is expected to lead the team who’s not you know playing well or doing the same thing so I he he was always hesitant to call out a I’m talking privately that’s a young head coach i’m talking even privately yeah but he had experience he had coached Minnesota for several years he’s still a young guy that I don’t know he had coached the Minnesota Wild this guy so he was hard he was all over Tage it was always Tage’s fault but I don’t think too many people were like “Fucking you traded Tage.” And then he goes up there and starts dominating right after co starts dominating dude I knew he
