Travis Konecny Gets Called For Goaltender Interference But Doesn’t Bump Into Goalie
Watch as Philadelphia Flyers forward Travis Konecny gets called for goaltender interference despite stopping before getting to the Washington Capitals netminder.
As someone who was at this game, the Flyers were far from perfect (Understandable with it being the last of 6 games in 9 days, second half of a back to back with travel against a fully rested team), but the refs won this for the Caps. Ovi's goal was bad play by the Flyers, but the other two directly resulted from missed/bad calls. The icing call with 15 seconds left in the second wasn't icing – the puck was hovering at the line and JVR was side by side with the Cap racing him for it – Caps gain the lead as the period ends on an O-zone faceoff they shouldn't have had in the first place. In the third Chara cross-checked Farabee in the face in front of the bench which is bare minimum interference, no call, and the Caps scored the third goal on that possession when they should have been whistled.
Why are everyone criticizing the officials on this call, don't the refs have the right to their pre-game whiskey? Well, to be serious, such a phantom call is a clear dang it. I actually think this should have been a power play for the Flyers (Carlson, 2 minutes for roughing)
This reminds me of the time PK Subban got a 4 minute high sticking penalty against Patrick Kane years ago… Kane wasn't even bleeding which was weird to draw a double minor, than the replay showed that Subban never even came close to hitting him at all… That was a double minor for doing absolutely nothing… 😅 NHL refs love their phantom calls.
Officiating this year is at an all time low its embarrassing. I’m a die hard Pens fan and watch every game and for both teams there’s always 5+ missed calls and then the ones they call are so weak. Last night vs NYR there were 7 penalties that should’ve been called and thats being generous to NYR and the refs only called 3. Also called a weak one on Sid that was probably a flop. I’m not being biased go watch it. And the game vs NYI they lost 2-0 the refs called several weak calls on PIT and missed several obvious penalties on NYI. The other night Gostisbehere hit McCann shoulder straight to chin no other body contact and no call. The seconds later proceed to call PIT on a weak hooking call. Go watch i’m not lying on twitter search up “Gostisbehere McCann”. No one in their right minds can say that shouldn’t be at least 2 min check to head if not 5+ a game.
Idk if it would've changed the outcome but you never know. This call and that BS Icing call later in the game just kills the momentum. I nearly spit my beer out when they made this call. The play was already whistled down and the puck in Samsonovs glove when TK was tackled into him. At first I thought Washington was about to pick up a penalty for some reason but when they called it on Konecny I was pissed. Wyd McCauley?
Even as a caps fan, this was a weak call. I mean ,of course, I'm gonna take it but these goalie interference calls are atrocious this year. They better cut this crap out come playoffs time
