PETERKA, DOBSON, & RED WINGS TRADE TARGETS – Winged Wheel Podcast – May 28th, 2025

Should Steve Yzerman go get a German friend for Moritz Seider?

Tune in as we discuss J.J. Peterka and his potential availability in a trade from the Buffalo Sabres, how the young German star would bolster Todd McLellan’s offense and join the Detroit Red Wings forward core of Dylan Larkin, Lucas Raymond, Marco Kasper, Alex DeBrincat, and Patrick Kane, what he would cost in a trade (Nate Danielson? Axel Sandin Pellikka or Michael Brandsegg-Nygard?), and more. Also, Noah Dobson to potentially help Seider, Simon Edvinsson, and Johansson, Marco Rossi as an alternative to Peterka, and more trade targets for Yzerman to bring to Hockeytown.

Next, a final wrap-up of the IIHF World Championships as Erik Gustafsson, Eduards Tralmaks, Raymond, Kasper, Seider, and Edvinsson make statements before our Stanley Cup Playoffs update, including Paul Maurice’s hilarity and Connor McDavid, Evan Bouchard, and Leon Draisaitl continuing to frustrate Rantanen, Hintz, and the Stars.

Finally, our 2025 NHL Draft Prospect Profile on Ivan Ryabkin, the Muskegon Lumberjacks star – worth the risk or “Do Not Draft”?

All of that & lots more before we take your questions and comments in our Overtime segment – enjoy!

  1. What would it cost for J.J. Peterka and Bowen Byram? I am more open to moving futures and B level prospects and players.

    Trade proposal:
Detroit Red Wings trade their 2025 1st (13th overall), 2025 2nd round draft pick, 2026 1st round draft pick, 2026 2nd round draft pick, Michael Rasmussen, Jonatan Berggren, Shia Buium, Antti
Tuomisto for J.J. Peterka and Bowen Byram from Buffalo Sabers.

    Detroit Red Wings 2025-2026 line-up:

    Peterka Larkin Raymond
    DeBrincat Kasper Kane
    Lombardi Copp Danielson
    Soderblom Compher Mazur

    Byram Seider
    Edvidsson Johansson
    Gustavsson Chiarot
    UFA

    Talbot
    Mrazek

  2. How is it that buffalo drafts so damn well and are always just dog water? At this point, buffalo is just another farm team for the NHL.

  3. We won’t get JJ because we aren’t a good fit as a trade partner. Buffalo is going to want impact now players in return with similar age. Kasper is the only player that I believe would be fair but as I and many wings fans would say no to moving kapser. If we can make something else work great! Would love to have him! But I just don’t see the wings having a good chance at being the proper trade partner for buffalo.

  4. 🚨 POLL: Which seating arrangement do you like better? ⤵

    A) Evan on the left, Brad on the right in the armchair

    B) Brad on the left, Evan on the right in the armchair

  5. Sorry for the choppy bit as Brad started talking, he accidentally called Peterka a center instead of winger and the edit didn't do so well.

  6. Evan creating the first ever WWP casting couch patreon exclusive. This channel is more spicy than Marchand face licks. Also if you're not comfortable losing Kasper then the only other trade leverage Detroit can even consider having is Lombardi, Danielson, Mazur, futures, etc. and thats if your trade partner is ok with unproven NHL level talent for collateral.

  7. Dobson would be a great get, but so would Byram. They need a third Dman who moves and transports the puck MORE than anything else. Yep, even more than the defensive Dman.

Peterka likely isn’t going anywhere. You can offer sheet him for $9.3 million and give up a 1st, 2nd and 3rd. It’s worth it, but Buffalo still might match. Although having Detroit’s #1 in 2026 might be considered more to take, being the McKenna/Stenberg Draft. Especially knowing there’s a good chance Detroit takes a step backwards next year.

    Back to the two Dmen..

There’s reasons for both of those teams to trade those players. Especially Buffalo, who chose NOT to give Byram a long term deal. They will now go to arbitration and he’ll get a massive award and then leave for free in a year because they will NEVER qualify him at around $10 million for the 2026-2027 season

Teams cannot allow really good young Dmen to get to arbitration. Buffalo screwed up big time here by not trading him at the deadline, or not giving him a long term contract. He holds all the cards, and can force a trade to whatever team he wants. Just like Debrincat did in Ottawa. No team will give up a big haul for him under these conditions. So if he lets teams know he’s only signing in let’s say Detroit, Buffalo is almost forced to take an offer like Ottawa was.

  8. @WingedWheelPodcast can you guys please do a Ben Kindel prospect profile soon because u feel like he might be a sneaky underrated star in the making that the Wings can draft with the 13TH overall pick. Btw huge Wings fan so keep up the fantastic work you guys love your content ❤️💙

  9. 8:03 Sure, he's worth a lot. The demand is high. The one limiting factor is that it is out there that he wants out. He'll still be expensive, but some of the value is going to be on how crazy someone is in wanting him or how shrewd everyone is.

  10. Excellent show, good realistic evaluation of the cost of possible trades. If none of the defensive prospects from GR make the team this year it is a damming statement about our drafting. Agree that Yzerman needs to do something big after the deadline miss.

  11. Danielson, berg, and a 2nd for Peterka. Sign him 7×7, then throw the bag at Gavrikov 8.25×5, successful offseason.

  12. We did it boys! The fact that neither Brad or Evan like the seating swap brings me joy. Next episode put Ryan in the chair for the chaos of it.

  13. Hey guys, best Wings podcast that i have seen yet!
I like Peterka as well but i'm not sure i would give up the farm for him after one 68 point season, did we already forget that a young Dylan Cozens also had a 68 point season with more goals but hasn't lived up to that standard in the following 2 seasons although he was close to just under a 65 point pace with Ottawa.
I hope like any Wings fan that they can find a top 6 player too add but if they can't i wonder if moving Kasper back to the first line LW and inserting Danielson as 2nd line center could be an option if Nate appears to be ready sometime next season. Giving Nate, Cat and Kane as wingers might show how much offensive potential that he actually has rather than playing with Watson and another AHL veteran.

I also don't mind Brad's take on getting Miller and Kreider from the Rangers if they could be had for a lower return.
Ed could slide up with Mo and Miller takes over Ld(2) alongside Al Jo or whomever the 2nd pairing RD will be.
Kreider would be a 2 year holdover until MBN or Buchelnikov are ready to step into the top 6.

I would like to see a prospect review of Braeden Cootes, a Center from Seattle of the WHL, a great skater who plays with energy and also had a really good WJC- 18 tournament. He might not be a 13th overall pick but could be had on a slight trade back if their other picks are off the board.

  14. There's a benefit to be had if the Wings can land big time long term pieces right now and we can lock them in now before the cap growth slows back down. Here's to hoping we hit on some big names this offseason.

  15. The Captain was a great player. I began to have my doubts about him as a GM when he decided to go to Europe to check out a player. I though he was a busy guy, he should have people to do that

  16. oh wow I'm already adjusted to the new positioning because that's been consistent in the new space. now, this "normal" seating arrangement looks wrong. I'm all messed up man lol

  17. Marco Rossi would be someone I would target. The situation between him and Minnesota is not good, and remember that Minnesota does not have a first round pick this year in the draft and would probably like to have one. Rossi for the thirteenth pick and throw Ziev’s brother in as a sweetener.

  18. Kasper looked like a different player in the World Championships continued to really, really improved. We need y o see exactly what he is going to be after this year.

  19. Sabre's fan here and apparently Peterka , along with 9 or 10 other players, want out of Buffalo. Peterka would be a great addition to the Red Wings.

  20. Getting hit on top of the skate almost feels worse than not having any skate on at all, anyone who's played hockey knows this. Hockey players are not divers and won't miss practice for any reason except for almost dying. Hintz getting that slash on the boot can take you out for weeks
