The summer he left us is the year he got married. I will continue to believe that he wanted to sign with us, but that his girlfriend was not happy here on Long Island and wanted him back home in Toronto. There was a noticeable change in him when he came back from the Christmas break that year. He was completely disengaged like he had already made up his mind, psychologically that he was out of here.
Having said that nothing made me happier than to watch Toronto lose in game seven. And not only lose but suffer their worst game seven home loss in Toronto history.
As much as a disappointment this season was, seeing the Rangers not make the playoffs and the maple queefs choke again was a nice way to wrap it up to go with Lou being gone

The islanders not only drafter tavares but they paid him well for the 9 years he was here. The islanders really took care of the player and then how does tavares repay the islanders.? This is EXACTLY why bill torrey and al arbour were BOTH on the same page that a priority is that you look for character and integrity in drafting and obtaining players via trade etc. After what tavares did to the islanders i knew there was 0% chance he will ever win a cup with any team. The maple leafs have plenty of low character really GREEDY guys marner is one nylander is another.Those two guys a few years back just held out of training camp DEMANDING more money when the maple leafs offered them a contract with fair market value.
If Tavares stayed in NY he would of had a better chance under Barry trotz. Two years in a row the islanders went to ecf and lost to a very good tbl team
