Six Big Fears for Nashville Predators Fans Ahead of the Trade Deadline and Offseason

Despite the additions of players like Steven Stamkos and Brady Skjei, this Nashville Predators season has been riddled by injuries, unmet expectations, and underperforming stars. With the trade deadline looming and little if any chance for the postseason, GM Barry Trotz has a lot of decisions to make about the roster and coach. On today’s show we discuss six big fears when it comes to what could be next for this team. We’ll tell you the one trade that could spell disaster for the team moving forward and what we most fear when it comes to who is behind the bench next season. We also share concerns about trade deadline and offseason moves and what Trotz might choose to do with those three first round picks.

  1. I love OReilly but I have no faith this team will be competitive without a coaching change. I think you either keep the player and change coaches or trade him and go for a blue chip center prospect (Winnipeg has one of those) and cash in on his value being inflated for a trade deadline sell. Erat/Forsberg opportunities are very rare

  2. Thanks EL and Ann..I will say EL's last point is something I 110% agree on, and look, this team has rarely RARELY picked in the Top 10–much less in the Top 5 and (Seth Jones in 2013 ya'll—then you are talking Scottie Upshall and David Legwand)! The core of the roster–the guys that make up the key parts of this team with the exception of Fil (whom was traded for) were guys that David Poile drafted and came up as home grown players. I'd say the draft is a huge opportunity to position the franchise and correct—with the realization that we don't know what's going to happen. I say just let it simmer—and we'll see what Trotz does–some teams have been rebuilding for a decade plus and that's the problem with rebuilds. It's a combination of the fanbase, yes, being spoiled, and also a desire to win the Cup..or get back in the conversation. We'll see how it plays out.

  3. I certainly don’t want to “burn it down”, but if we do, Bruno is the first to go. I wouldn’t mind Laviolette making a return to Nashville…. I mean, he did have some great results and it isn’t working out with the Rangers.

  4. Cant see I am too worried about anything. A bit delusional atm. One thing is Brunos lack of ability to lead this group, but I have to say
Barry's cv as GM so far also have gotten some dents in the armor. Some major moves will eventually happen. Maybe little at the trade
deadline but this roster has to be overhauled in the sommer. Thats on Barry as much as Bruno.

  5. Relax! It doesn't matter. It doesn't matter at all!

"Don't overcorrect and trade off key core players"? Oh we already did that with Ekholm, Duchene and Johansen, not to mention most of our better young players too and even some of our better depth guys!

"Don't do too little"? It is IMPOSSIBLE to do enough! At bare minimum we need a legit 1C, at least one really good top-six wing, a better third line, maybe a better fourth line, an entire new D-corps (Lauzon is fine but other than that NO, JUST NO!), a better goalie and, most importantly, the Fountain of Youth… and some Miracle-Grow… and whatever it is that the Roadrunner eats! So, yeah, good luck with that, we'll have to see what we can find at Wal-Mart this summer!

"Don't waste the draft pick"? Well, whoever we get, if our development doesn't ruin his career, then playing with our big club should finish the job. Anyway, one guy is not going to fix anything. We need about a dozen legit top-9/top-4 guys coming down the pipeline in addition to the, MAYBE three? that we already have… plus a goalie!

Rebuild? Well, yes, but completely and NOT until we have totally different management… and scouting… and development… and coaching… but especially management!

  6. Bruno's firing timeline is most probably next November … 20 games in … if the Predators aren't able to execute the triangulation system on a nightly basis to good effect — chemistry wise & execution wise — then … . Of course, there is the goalie issue … which is Barry's blotch (?) … particularly if Askarov turns out to be "as good as advertised" & Lanky was available for 2 or 3 years …

  7. Bruno’s speed and skill system doesn’t appear to fit this group of older players. The zone defense is the biggest problem. Can we find players that fit the system?
