  1. It was fun when we were in Russia – we were trying to speak Russian, and the Russians were excited to try to practice their English! We had a great time.

  3. Erm I don’t get these experiences in the comments at all. Every time I go to Germany I have a hard time communicating because “nobody “ speaks English?

  4. I do not know about now, but 10 years ago more than half Hannoveraner either had no English level or had a medium-low level that made them shy away from a conversation in English (even the younger ones).

To me, it was an advantage to practice Mündlicher Ausdruck and Hörverstehen. It is just that, "oh, we Germans speak good English"… not what I experienced 🤨

  5. very accurate. I went out of my way to learn Polish when i went there, only for the first person i spoke to tell me not to bother, most of them speak English. Barely 30 seconds later "you could at least learn our language, kurwa."

Sadly then when I returned to work, at a tesco warehouse (2010) I was still in Polish mode that I was essentially hearing the vile stuff the agency workers were saying. Had a great one when one smashed my ankle with a battery MHE. Was in the meeting and the agency workers supervisor was slagging me off, laughing with the guy, saying how I'm stupid and such, so I replied in Polish "I can actually speak Polish my friend. I heard everything you just said and will translate this all to the manager." then did so. NONE of the agency ever spoke around me after that. If i went into the canteen, they'd all go from speaking loud to hushed talk. It was fun at times, hearing them in their own language call the managers kurwa and other names, openly saying what they stole of cages.

  6. I am from Argentina, lived 2 years in Berlín. Every video you make, it definitely remember me when i was there 😂

  7. It was 2008, I was in Berlin, at the front gate of the Berlin Zoo/Aquarium. The price list was in German and I politely asked the personnel if he was speaking English so that I could ask him if there was a combined ticket for both of the zoo and the aquarium. He yelled at me "THIS IS GERMANY, WE SPEAK GERMAN HERE". Well I already had studied 200 German lessons but I felt better with English. I'd reply "sieg heil!" but I knew it was a crime.

  8. When I was in hannover for a week, I think I encountered a handful of people who spoke english, and most of them were of turkish origin. Splendid nontheless, will visit again.

  9. In my experience people only know the basics of English, even teenagers (or they are shy) maybe its in bigger city's like berlin but i haven't met someone in my daily life who knows very much English. Once i sent many emails around 15-20 ish asking for therapy in English. You would think since it's a high education to study for such job, although not many got back to be only 3 said yes

  10. I live in America in a very diverse big-ish city and meet people from all over the world somewhat regularly. If I happen to know a phrase or two in their native language and at least make an attempt to speak it, they are usually delighted.

  11. Asking “Is English ok?” and knowing how to say thank you in the local language will usually get you a good start.

  12. Actually Germans are known for having poor english. Its because in the past most of the movies in Germany were dubbed to german. The same goes for Russia and some other countries. 🤭

  13. "Warum sprichst kein deutsch?, wenn du in Deutschland leben will muss deutsch sprechen" inspirational words. 😂

  14. honestly, i never met someone from an english speaking country in germany. if someone asks me something in broken german, i ask if english would be better. most of them have their language, english and now german on top. i guess after all the stuff that happend in the last years, many people have a similar approach

  15. its weird i cant speak any other languages like maybe a sentence but its kinda uncanny when i hear German i swear i heard everything that old man said or i can reasonably assume what someone's saying in spanish…am i a god?
