I heard Rick Tocchet speak really well of Podkolzin when asked about him before the game last night. He obviously thinks very highly of him — especially as a person. Thought that was very classy of his former coach.

Podkolzin and Emberson are guys I've been really pleasantly surprised by, it's still tough to be rid of Holloway and Broberg – as I think they would slot in even better and they'd be getting big minutes this year, but both of the new guys have really added a physicality the Oilers have been missing and I'm excited to see what it's like when Kane comes back and there's even more bite spread through the lineup. This Oilers team is going from a soft team that needs all the passes to go right for scoring to a smash-and-grab tougher team in the non-McDavid minutes.
Corey Perry going after Hughes doesn't go against his point that the NHL should protect star players. They should. But they often don't. So then you get guys like Perry or Kane (obviously not there this game) who will go after star players on the other team to send a message: you manhandle our star players, we're going after yours. Old school hockey. If the NHL would protect its stars, this wouldn't happen.
The Oilers fans response is basically how do you like it when the shoe is on the other foot eh?
