as far as lineups i am no longer sure what the fix is bc it's clear Larkin and Raymond can't play together and that being permanently w Lucas this year has broken Larkin's spirit. the obvious would be to use Larkin Cat Kane.
but Copp Cat Kane appears to be Kane's preferred line, wild as that would have sounded a few weeks ago. but Lalonde even when he uses them refuses to use them now for full games, he keeps breaking them up midgame in desperation line shuffling. and he refuses to use them w the top d pair, basically sabotaging the line. the last time he wasn't doing this and intentionally paired them w a fresh Seider was first period of first game vs MTL, not coincidentally the last time the team was alive.
what an incredible mess Lalonde has made of a roster that was a mess to begin with.

Apparent since Stevie’s horrible decisions last couple yrs that this is a flawed roster. Not one power forward. Top 6 wingers all small, same player essentially. Foolishly thinking Copp is a 2C after an outlier career yr heading into FA. Then after that was obvious, he does the exact same thing with Compher. Both bottom 6 checking centers.
Signs Talbot instead of Stolarz. The atrocious Walman deal. Deals the wrong veteran dman in Maatta. The list goes on. Debrincat gets tossed off the puck like a feather. Perimeter soft skill. And maybe Rasmussen can’t be that top center he was drafted to be, but how about a power forward? Maybe play with some grit. Just floats and it’s maddening.
Lifelong Stevie fan for decades, his first couple yrs back were great, then the last couple have been horrible.
Scotty Bowman himself couldn’t coach this horribly flawed roster.
Their effort is a joke. I don’t blame Copp (and then Compher after) for fooling Stevie into thinking they were 2C’s after outlier career yrs. Rasmussen refusing to use his big body to at least finish checks and be physical (since he’s clearly a bust as a top center) is a joke.
Wonder what Stevie will do next year? Probably sign another small, soft skilled winger and ship any good dmen we have left out. Wonder is Chris Illitch can get another jersey ad to further desecrate the iconic winged wheel. Hey, as long as the fans keep showing up to the corporate LCA all is well. On the plus side, at least the fans didn’t have to hear that obnoxious Eminem goal song tonight. This team needs to take notes from how the Florida Panthers are managed. They also had no interest in carrying over the culture from the Joe.

Maybe it’s me kinda realizing that the majority of these shows are rinse and repeat regardless of the outcome. I think I finally figured this out. I think a lot of these people just need to take a simple like media class. I get you have to make your point don’t get me wrong for gosh sakes man I mean, isn’t it supposed to be like back-and-forth and actually like a discussion instead of just like blah blah blah blah blah but I guess that’s what we’re at right now anyways everybody have a great holiday.
1 March game of last year had more excitement than our last 12 games. Sad
The veterans on this team know they aren't good enough to win enough games to make the playoffs, and that attitude bleeds into the younger players. Just let the season go and get a good pick in the draft. The season is over, so the fans need to get over it.

Chris Illich spends 100's of millions building a new, double rink but doesn't seem to want to spend alittle extra to hire the BEST active coach in hockey, like his Dad did with Bowman( ….Joel Quenneville) ! I just don't get it. Patrick Kane says something to the following point every interview; that the best defence is to have possession of the puck,😢 and making plays in the other teams end. ( insinuating that Lalonde is clueless with his dump and chase style hockey ). It is very clear he learned this playing for good , smart coaches like Joel Quenneville. Someone commented below , why don't we play like when the Russian 5 (and Bowman and Steve Yzerman) were here ? This formula turned Steve Yzerman's career around and was THE reason that HE and the TEAM were winners !! I am really confused why he isn't preaching this style himself. As Mickey Redmond always says, it's a lot easier to keep control of the pock and play defence that way, as opposed to giving he puck away each play and then have to work so hard to try and get it back. I agree whole heartedly !!! Chris Illich (as opposed to S.Y.) may be the problem , who knows for sure. All I can say is: SOMEONE please , for crying out loud …fire Lalonde and the defensive coaching staff and hire Joel Quenneville !!! FAST before he is gone ! If not for this year then definitely for the next & the next ! NOTE – Mo Seider, Raymond, Larkin and Patrick Kane ALL approve of this message !!!!!
I'm so sick of watching Tarasenko coast around the ice and turnover the puck every time he does manage to pick it up. They're paying this guy $4.75 mil to stand around? He needs to be healthy scratched and if that doesn't send the needed message then just waive him. He's tying up a roster spot for guys who would be willing to at least provide some effort. Playing him on the top line is forcing Larkin and Raymond to effectively play short handed, remember these are your top two scoring threats.
He's not the only problem. The defense, other than Seider and Edvinsson, are either too old and slow or too young and inexperienced. Opposition forwards are walking around these guys like they're pylons out there. Clean zone exit passes are non-existent. They just spin and dump without purpose just hoping to clear the zone.
Combine that with forwards who aren't quick enough (or care enough) to forecheck effectively and the majority of the play ends up in your end of the ice. Guys need to be sat down for continuously putting forth bad effort.
I came back to give credit to Raymond, Seider, Edvinsson, Larkin, Rasmussen and Motte (who for some reason is getting regularly scratched) for putting forth a consistent level of effort. Even Kane has picked his game back up a bit in the last couple games after giving the "Look in the mirror" quote. He just needs to sustain the level of effort that was missing previously.
Under a proper coach with good systems and "know how," this roster construction is no where near as bad as some of you (including Brian) make it out to be. Wayne Gretzky and Nick Lidstom would look very average playing for this coach and NEVER, NEVER would have been much of a success. THAT MY FRIENDS IS A FACT !

To clarify, this roster as constructed should be average / mid pack with a knowledgeable coach. One or two tweeks in Jan. should be able to make us decent. With this coach, = high draft puck ! *****(I hate it but in the back of my mind, I can't help wondering if that was the plan of management all along).

What do you expect, Ilich destroyed the team, and Yzerman has furthered that destruction with total stupidity in his drafts, trades, and give away of good players. He dumped a group which scored 100+ goals and got no one to replace them. This team has very few skaters, last time I looked, when on ice skating is a necessity. Yikes. I have been a fan since 1955, most uninspiring group I can ever remember.

I go back to a game about a month ago when Larkin signaled for a timeout (he was stuck on the ice and gassed), and Newsie waived him off…
I think that's when he lost the captain, one of the few who bled for the team and brought it every night.

I believed Brisebois drove a significant portion of Tampa’s management era with Yzerman. I think he hired Jon Cooper for example.
I haven’t seen Yzerman as a facilitator of personnel chemistry..it is an underrated aspect of successful GM ventures.
The Wings need a fresh reset. At the very least Coach LaLonde an underwhelming presence. The energy the momentum has been in short supply from early on in his coaching tenure.
