Damn what a video, definitely Alex Lafieniere next!
I’d like to suggest other defensemen who were amazing skaters and were basically the “Makar” of skating in their era. If you could do in depth looks on Scott Niedermayer , and Jay Bouwmeester. These two defensemen were truly generational when it came to skating.
A lot of things would have to happen for Makar or any future dman to even have a chance at the Art Ross. In todays NHL, almost one thing is certain, a minimum of 35 to 40 goals at least. Second, is PPP and shooting percentage. For any dman to accomplish this, a starting point would be to permanently place Makar on the wing for the PP. I don’t see that happening. This would be a huge plus, because Makar’s shots would be blocked less since he wouldn’t be shooting from the blue line or in the middle as much. Then, there would have to be an “off” year either due to production or injury to the top stars/favourites to win the Art Ross (McDavid, MacKinnon, Kucherov, ect). Basically, for a dman to win the Art Ross in todays NHL, all the stars in the universe would have to align.
