Sheila Johnson Criticizes Time for Singling Out Caitlin Clark | WNBA News

Sheila Johnson, billionaire co-owner of the Washington Mystics and co-founder of BET, has sparked a conversation about the WNBA’s representation following Caitlin Clark’s “Athlete of the Year” honor from Time magazine. While acknowledging Clark’s stellar achievements, Johnson highlights the need for the media to showcase the league’s diverse talent, including stars like Angel Reese.

In this video, we dive into:

Caitlin Clark’s record-breaking rookie season with the Indiana Fever
The impact of the “Caitlin Clark Effect” on WNBA viewership and attendance
Johnson’s concerns about racial disparities in sponsorship deals, like Clark’s $28M Nike partnership
The media’s role in shaping rivalries, such as Clark vs. Angel Reese, and its potential consequences for the league
Caitlin Clark has also addressed her privilege and called for more recognition of Black players who have built the foundation of the WNBA. Johnson applauds Clark’s candidness but emphasizes unity to sustain the league’s momentum during this pivotal growth phase.

  1. Clark changed the WNBA cause she’s white most people don’t like it. For comparison when Eminem blew up in rap people didn’t like it. This owner is the one who holds the wnba down, why isn’t she paying the players better no she uses Clark. deflected her own greed and use Clark as a scape goat

  2. “Hey don’t single out Clark!” Says owner, immediately before singling out a different player of her preference.

  3. A Black woman outraged at Time recognizing the talent over all other black players but that's ok. If it was the opposite they would be losing their $hit.
