Happy 37th birthday to Penguins captain Sidney Crosby!

It’s hard to believe but Sidney Crosby is 37 years old today. On this edition of Locked On Penguins, Hunter and Patrick discuss what he’s meant to the franchise and the sport, their favorite Crosby moments, and if it’s right to be concerned about no contract extension yet. After that, they dive into the Erik Karlsson trade one year later and look at how it worked out for three teams. They ask themselves if the trade was still worth it and if he will silence some of his doubters this upcoming season. Finally, they end the show with Sergei Murashov getting interviewed and how he could’ve tipped his hand on which team in the Penguins organization he’ll be playing for this year.

  1. Yeah I can’t even lie, the fact that Sid didn’t sign today feels mildly concerning, considering pretty much everyone was expecting it. With training camp about a month away and still no contract, can't help but wonder if he’s unsure about his future. Not that I don’t think he won’t sign eventually, but just wondering if he’s unsure about term or something.

  2. One Crosby moment ill never forget seing live was his ot goal against the Oilers a few years ago, i remember watching that game and i had played hockey earlier in school that day and got the OT winner in that school game and watching that game and seeing him get around the 2 defenders and score the backhand with McDavid watching on the ice, overtime winner for the black and gold

  3. If the power play this past season had been ranked 10th-15th in the league, Crosby probably has 110+pts. If Guentzel at least finishes the season with Pittsburgh, maybe he has 120. And if they had found a way to make the playoffs, along with his defense and leadership, there's a solid chance he would've won MVP at age 36. Insane.

  4. Another thing that could happen, with the logjam in net, is that the Pens could loan a goaltender, or two, to other minor league teams, like the Chicago Wolves who are without an NHL affiliation.

  5. Honestly would not surprise me if Crosby is waiting to see how much money Kyle Dubas needs to be able to acquire him a legit winger before agreeing to a dollar amount. Crosby only cares about winning at this point, and I don't think he's going to want to eat up $10 million in cap space just because he can, and in turn not have a better option than DOC on his left.
