I think you can easily make the argument that his absolute floor is having learned from incredible scouting and drafting staff and strategy for 30 years. I think the reasonable assumption is that he contributed as much as he learned over that time. I think the ceiling is that he's a scouting wunderkind (age notwithstanding) and will be able to direct a team of scouts in the right direction. I feel like you only usually hear MLB teams talk about their scouting/farm system but in the world of amateur scouting you may just have something to actually celebrate.

Seems like a good hire. The big thing will be the quality of the scouts under him. If he can improve how they scout that's fine, but if they're not great neither will the quality of the picks be.
Please lay off of the crack pipe.The core of Yzerman, Lidstrom, Federov, Shanahan, Fetisov, Larianov, Larry Murphy, Osgood, and Hasek were responsible for those cups, and none were drafted because of Leach. You are fucking delusional! The Wings were the first team to really tap the Russian market and hire scouts to go into Moscow, which is what led to them getting mid to late round steals like Federov and Datsyuk. But that scout was NOT Leach.

I think most of his hits were high picks (first 2 rounds) that Leafs don't generally have. Same ol' thing. Not gonna get excited when we don't have or will have any high future picks as we just trade them away at the deadline anyway. Why bother?

Steve, I’ve honestly been rooting for the Leafs to figure it out for a few years now, but as a Stars fan, this offseason has drawn a line.
First we have to give you Tanev because your team’s brass decided “we’ll just send him to Robidas island eventually,” so we had to take sub-NHLer Ilya Lyubushkin as potentially our new top pair RD (dear god), but now you take our top scout after our drafting has been hyped to infinity for the last few years. The one cope fans had about building a terrible defensive core in this free agency was that we would at least probably be able to draft some strong players again this year, but now we are probably screwed there too now that your team has decided it just wants to become the Stars (should have seen it coming when they took a Robertson brother they can’t seem to develop correctly).
It’s nothing personal between you and I Steve, but the Leafs are my enemy now. Unfortunately, I must pray upon your team’s downfall, and you will see the repercussions of that as a fan. Good luck.

Seems not great that the Leafs let Wes Clark run the last draft when they (presumably) knew he was on the way out. Too bad they didn't get this sorted out way sooner.

history, but it does not erase the biggest mistake he made in the modern NHL. Leach was part of the staff that picked Miro Heiskanen over Cale Makar. That is all you need to know. I appreciate Steve trying to put a positive spin, but this is such a Leafy hiring that all you can do is laugh at FO 😂😂😂

i got to seen wyatt johnston play in the ohl he played for my cities team also i saw greentree a first round pick of this year and u can defiantly tell they were just better than the rest also it can be said that it doesnt always pan out i saw ho-sang play too and defiantly thought he would be an nhler but his career hasnt really paned out
Stars have gotten very lucky lately, because of the insane 2017 and 2021 draft it gets easier to excuse bad 1st rounders like Tufte, Gurianov, Dellandrea, etc.
