In 2021, guaranteed Edler will never agree to go to any other team, including Seattle. That’s why he opted out of 3rd year salary, rather just retire. He would of gotten $5 mil x 3 yr = $15mil at least. He took $12 mil and likely call it quits. I don’t know any other player that has been so firm on staying with team. Guessing his wife has a NMC on Edler or it’s retirement clause on their contract. Forget the money, dear.
I guess Edler is a steal @ $6 mil considering LE contract…
I am happy with the extension. I am an Edler fan, however I think Benning got it right with term and money. The Canucks don't have to protect Edler during the expansion draft which was crucial for the Canucks. Have fun at both events tonight!
