**Goal 1 vs Wild:**
Players got tangled up in neutral zone which leads to a 3 on 1 and turned into this 2 on 0 vs Reimer.

Main issue with this one is the fact that Walman/Perron/even Seider are NOT SKATING BACK FULL TILT. Basically flat and upright on their feet.
Basically gliding at this point

Now Wallman was literally 1 second late to stop the puck from going in and instead, he is stopping for some reason. I do not understand why Seidier is not absolutely hammering Boldy into the net and not sure what Perron is doing

Low effort here by everyone. This is beer league backcheck D effort level.

Goal 2 by Wild:
Starts with Terrible play in the O ZONE : [https://youtu.be/FmAoNsedpsM?t=158](https://youtu.be/FmAoNsedpsM?t=158)Raymond does a drop pass to no one and off to the races we go with our D trapped as the turnover is right at the blue Line during rotation in the O zone.
We get numbers back, but once again there is no effort.
Raymond is in a good spot here but stops skating giving the middle of the ice to the wild player for some reason. Instead of busting his ass like a mad dog for that stupid turn over he starts to glide.

This gives almost a breakaway to Wild player – after that Chariot does not skate back hard enough to pick up the 2nd player, which causes another turnover and of course Fabri does not skate back at all and does not pick up the eventual goal scorer.
CHerry on top – Chariot stops right in front of Reimers face – like 2 inches in front him to block all vision of his goalie.
3rd goal by Wild:

Seider makes a pinch, but does not block off the player via bodycheck or just grinding him out against the boards. Instead he tries to poke check?? He just gets out skated instead and we go on another odd-man rush.
He also does not pick up the 3rd guy in but instead does a weird dive block pass attempt but whatever at that point.

Wild Golal 5:
All starts with a Fabri turnover at which point he also takes out another red wing player introducing another 2-1 and again not sure what coaching can do here.

I noticed this too. I couldn’t believe the gliding I saw.
Have the coaches lost this team?
Funny how I know exactly what you were talking about immediately in each of these incidents. So sloppy, so half ass. What are they thinking!? Don’t they want to win??
Wild Goal 6:
After Walman dies in the corner it seems to cause huge chaos and seems Seider just gives up on the play

Noticed the exact same thing on the first goal. Wtf was Perron doing after he got back up? Absolutely no hustle.
It genuinely feels like:
* Opposing teams are onto our system and have found ways to exploit it
* The players have seen how quickly the system breaks down and are quick to give up on it
You could make the argument in October or November that some guys just aren’t getting it yet, new to the team, etc., but we are nearly halfway through the season. If they don’t get it by now they shouldn’t be skating until they do get it.
The team is trying to get Lalonde fired
I’m firmly convinced he’s lost the locker room
Id say both are the issue and it’s similar to the issues they had during the blashill years.
Not enough pure talent (although the top line is good) combined with zero team identify. They aren’t a team that will out hustle you, they aren’t a team that will physically drain you, they aren’t a team that control the puck, they aren’t a team that will lock you down…they’re just there.
Turnover prone lacking any real identity. Some of that is LaLondes fault, some of that is the players.
Personally I’d take four lines of grinders over some of the floaters we have.
We have 2 of the worst goalies in the league.

System. Any D plan that drags our D=men 20 feet away from the goal while leaving little Austin Czarnik as the Net Front defender is heavily flawed.
bring on the downvotes, Its the system to blame IMHO. Redwings aren’t developing and haven’t developed any top serviceable NHL players beyond their natural progression since well before 2009. The current up and coming group may have size, but are young and soft, and so weak on the puck, they lack basic fundamentals and stamina. Not sure how the Organization has gotten a pass for so long. Someone said Detroit is great at developing young players back when we were on the 25 yr playoff run, but honestly Wings just got lucky drafting europeans and Russians before the rest of the league caught on. There really isn’t any proof to back that up the sentiment that Detroit is great at developing talent. In fact a case could be made for the opposite. They cant even seem to develop their top picks into regular serviceable NHLers let alone develop diamonds in the rough.
I think part of this is the D or team in general are extremely frustrated with the goalies not making saves, I think the Goalies and Forwards are frustrated with the D for not boxing out around the net and I think the Goalies and D are frustrated with the forwards not backchecking the way they should. This is a Coaching problem that has been festering for way too long. Change of coach, new assistance coaches, trades….something needs to happen to get the spark back and get the team playing the way they can.
Really appreciate this play by play breakdown. Totally agreed the effort has not been there, which brings up another point I didn’t see addressed here: endurance and fatigue. They look tired out there. Some guys are doubtlessly playing through minor injuries.
I’m from Wisconsin and I took the family to this game for our first NHL game ever. Thanks Redwings I’ll never forget it.
Goal 1: Seider and Perron run into each other, some-fucking-how, and Perron goes for a tie up on Boldy in front of the net which is unsuccessful. Seider should have either played the body on Boldy, or gone to the other open man next to the net.
Sounds like Seider and Perron were trying to play the same man because they didn’t fucking communicate, and Perron gets there first. This is an extremely broken play, and not indicative of X and O systems necessarily, but they really don’t know who goes where when a play breaks down, and it doesn’t seem like Newsy is coaching them to handle less than perfect plays.
Main reason this went in the net: Seider not paying attention.
Goal 2: Compher is back to cover the puck carrier, Hartman, who notices he has a lane, makes a move on Compher to create space, and gets in the lane. Hartman then becomes Raymond’s check, and Raymond takes his man, but there’s no urgency. Compher, instead of covering Rossi to prevent a tap in on the rebound, also takes Hartman because he sees Raymond doesn’t quite have him tied up, leaves Rossi totally wide open, and both Chiarot and what looks like Ghost, BOTH come in to tie up Rossi, which Chiarot does. Puck then goes back to the point, which Ghost should be covering at this point, and shot goes in the net.
Main reason this went in the net: Tough one, since everyone but Chiarot pretty much did the wrong thing, but Ghost not covering the high slot/point is what ultimately what leads to this.
Goal 3: There’s really no reason for Seider to pinch here, especially not with a guy up that high that can create a 3-2. From what I understand, Newsy is trying to make Seider play a more finesse game and be less “reckless and physical”, which is bullshit since that’s his game. 2022 Seider plays the body here and absolutely crushes Johansson on a bad pinch, and probably gets a favorable outcome on a bad read. And yeah, he doesn’t pick up the trailer and tries to obstruct the passing lane, which is whatever, but he’s got a clear shot on net.
Main reason this went in the net: Seider pinching in the first place.
Goal 5: an unfortunate broken play, with a good shot by Johansson. I’m not even faulting Reimer on that one.
Main reason this went in the net: Bad luck.
Goal 6: Either we screened our own goalie here or Reimer just flat out screwed that one. You can’t allow a goal from the top of the blue line on a lob shot like that.
Main reason this went in the net: Reimer.
I like the breakdown!! We’ve seen to much of this all season.
