Nhl highlights 2023 – The montreal canadiens have a couple of interesting storylines entering the game vs nashville predators , but chief among them other than the goalie carousel is juraj slafkovsky . He’s been talked about as a bust of a first overall draft pick and there’s been plenty of coverage on him since he arrived in montreal, so let’s talk about how that has evolved in the year and a half he’s been in the league. Subscribe to johnny hawkey for coverage of nhl highlights today , news and trade rumors , reactions to funny mic’d up moments or on-ice craziness, player/team features (there has been a focus on the edmonton oilers and toronto maple leafs in the past but i’ve been trying to diversify) and more. Love all these YouTube armchair quarterbacks eating crow after shitting on all the teams that underperformed in the first two months of the season. Good thing they don’t hand out the cup after 20 games 😂
Slafkovsky has visibly the worst if not one of the worse start to a first overall career since drafting became relatively fair in 1969, but thats 100% on the Canadiens not him.
A) Montreal deliberately picked first overall a player according to their “needs”, not who was the best available.
B) Cooley and company were too “small” for an already small team.
C) Montreal really wanted Slaf over the others, but couldn’t trade the first pick since it was in Montreal and didn’t know if someone else would take him
D) They really wanted someone NHL ready now to help keep the enthusiasm of the fans during the rebuild. Found out playing vs men doesn’t equate NHL ready at all.
E) Couldn’t send him to Laval for some reason … when they always said it would be a long term development … a lot of the fan base was openly advocating for it.
F) All of the above.
If you do a redraft slaf aint going #1 bruh. Atleast top 10.
Hate to see these guys being called bust, hope this dude turns out to be great
he's a bum, you're clutching at straws lol
Nah love that he had Maurice Richard game. I prefer the gritty, future Captains. Always loved those types(Steve Yzerman, Wendell Clark) Crosby is a bitch, but he did it at times…Bloody nosed hat tricks. That'll be my boy Slav.
He'll be on 2nd line with Mesar next year lighting it up for 25+ goals.
eh
Future stud
Remember, everyone thought Shane Wright was the first overall pick…
He's like a dollar store Nik antropov
Not a Habs fan but if you think Slaf is a bust you’re a casual
Better than Shane wright
I mean, we're talking about the team that passed on Brady Tkachuk for…*checks notes* Jesperi Kotkaniemi.
A guy who jumped at an offer sheet and is now a bubble player there, or a heart-and-soul guy like Tkachuk. The biggest problem for the Habs is their front office, they need to clean house
7 points bruh
Slaf is getting similar talk that Laf has gotten. Development is such a weird thing and it happens differently with every player
We need more Jets content
He’s going to be a 50 goal scorer 100%
Very reminiscent of Quinten Byfield everyone said he was a bust because he was mediocre in his first few seasons now Byfield looks like he is gonna be a PPG power forward.
Drafting first overall to get a mediocre top six forward if his development goes perfectly. Man, what a terrible season to get the first overall pick.
Can you cover the Rangers or coyotes on a video ?🙏
as a habs fan if we need goals we have suzuki and caufield for that. Both are on the smaller side though and Slaf's size is a huge boon for the team. If he can assert himself on the ice like a bigger jordan staal in the early days of the penguins dynasty and make room for caufield then its a win for us even if he doesn't score 40 goals a season.
He’s a bust
Big problem is no one ever saw him as the 1st ovr pick. It was just an absolute shit pick and it’s turning out as such
It was… Buffalo lol
Some players take a few years to settle into their best. Still young and has time grow into his best.
Not to mention the McDavids and Bedard and Matthews' are exceptional talents in their Drafts, to rank correctly you'd Stick them to 0th Overall pick
It may be a similar development to Byfield's. The only thing that bothers me about Slafkovsky is that he doesn't shoot at all.
Remember, Thornton had one point in 55 rookie games
Just silence

Not all sleepers stay asleep. Some do and just bust and go off into the sunset at another league, never to be heard from again. But Slafkovsky doesn't give off that energy. Maybe maybe not going to be a hall of famer, but honestly not going to slide him into the bust category. He's playing hard to keep himself in the NHL and not get sent down to the AHL.
do a video on the kyle connor injury 😊
Hate the habs but every time I see slafkovsky I’m reminded of a very similar player. Tage Thompson. Check his stats and tell me that anybody predicted he would become what he is today. Big guys take time.
Def Cooley miles better than Slavkovsky
In 10 yrs, Shane Wright will be the more all around productive player… At 19 he s doing great in the AHL working hard, learning, and growing. He is also 6' and 200lbs…solid, Cooley is great, a speedy set up guy, but a smaller perimeter player. The Montreal system needs much better coaching, as Laval is just a terrible team! Slav is an unknown still, and really should have done a year in the AHL if they had a good development program. He has a high ceiling, but B. Schen might be a modest, optimistic projection.
He’s a bust
All you idiot habs fans make me laugh 😂😂😂😂😂 worst fan base in the nhl next to leafs hahahahahhahahahhaha
Bust
Slafkovsky is a bigger joke than your channel and takes 😂 I can’t stand you unbearable habs fans thinking ur players are good lmao
To me, Slaf is like Leo Carlsson. They're both beasts who are still developing, and showing their best week after week. I cannot wait to see both players being at their prime showing the world their real potential!
One aspect that is not mentioned enough is how the Habs are dealing with him, he's not set on an established line under Martin Saint-Louis & the Habs management like Cooley, Fantili and Carlsson are most of the time in their respective teams. He's being challenged to adapt to all 3 first lines, and many linemates switches, several times a week and it's not only because of the injuries and inconsistencies of the team, it's mainy cause that's what HE and the team NEED to elevate their game collectively. That has caused detriments to his own production but this is how you built up a pillar of a guy who might not get the PPG career but becomes absolutely essential to a team going for playoffs dominance and cup titles down the line.
Juraj got absolutely destroyed by clifton lmfao the cope is real Johnny
There should be a draft for YouTube commenters. Would be full of busts! 🤣
Prime Lawson Crouse is where this kid is right now.
He’s still a kid, he’s still growing. He’s already improved a lot. He will be a great player for the Habs for a long time.
from UK; thanks man, love how u really do keep a level head cos these days the unreal expectency of thinking kids are gonna explode on to the nhl scene is beyond belief. habs fans seem happy with slaf from the posts i've read, he is good on the eye & seems to have reached a point where by being relaxed his game is steadily improving. unreal expectation in others that we wouldn't dream off putting on ourselves is a result of the star & celebrity world moulded by social media. anyhow my friend keep up the good work & most of all keep real to yourself. peace.
