The Oilers are a fragile hockey team right now

How important was the win in Toronto for the Senators and D.J. Smith’s job security? Could Jack Campbell return to Edmonton at some point or is his demotion permanent? Could Jay Woodcroft’s job hinge on a win or loss in San Jose? TSN Hockey Insider Pierre LeBrun joins Jay Onrait to share his thoughts on this and more.

  1. It's more than the first 5 minutes…the Oilers had a great 10-15 minutes against Vancouver and than as soon as something went wrong the implosion was in fast effect. The Sharks as bad as they are are capable of great goaltending making this a very dangerous game for Edmonton. They don't just need a fast start they need to keep the pedal down.

  2. Jay Woodcroft's weak chin is the reason Edmonton won't win a cup.

  3. Lets be honest this was years in the making. Connor McDavid is the main cause of the implosion. His speed is useless unless he learns how to use it to make his team better.

  4. "Fragile??"…Outshooting teams 40–16 in a game and 19–2 in a period?…..How about a combination of unlucky, untimely mistakes, 5 consecutive penalties in one period (Winnipeg), Brain dead refs, (last game vs Canucks) ,McDavid playing hurt and bad puck luck, and running into hot goalies. The Oilers easily could have won 5 more games this year. We wouldn't even be having this discussion if they did.
Everything on this slump is fixable……The amount of piling on from other markets is amusing. Oilers will bounce back. I can't wait to remind some fan's in other markets around March or April what they were saying this November.

  5. You can fire the coach but team is still going to be the same, changing the coach every isnt the problem, its the players their grown ass men that get million of dollars get the dam job done. We can say this over and over again it the goaltending and the defence unti they strenghten those areas thei going to be the same Oilers. Good luck against the sharks, Go Oilers Go.

  6. Campbell has never been a number 1, but he generally has been a good goalie in the teams he's played for. The Oilers defense has never been great, but Jack Campbell became a bad goalie once he came to Edmonton. Bad defense is some of it, ultimately it comes down to bad goaltender coaching.
