Time for Sabres to move on from Victor Olofsson

After a 3-2 loss to Carolina, Sneaky Joe has reached his peak with Victor Olofsson, and believes it’s time to move on from one of their longest tenured players. Olofsson was benched by Don Granato after two periods, playing under 10 minutes of ice time on Tuesday night.

Plus, Joe breaks down a decent performance, on the road, against a great team in the Hurricanes. Is 1-point good enough in a game like that?

  1. I love oloffson, I remember when I really started getting into the Sabres was his rookie year and I loved seeing him light it up on the power play and we were calling him Goaloffson, idk maybe I’m just sentimental but I really think he could produce on the power play and help us there. I’m sure he would score a bunch of goals to any team we trade him to so I wish him the best if he gets traded.

  2. If we are not going to use his shot on the powerplay then yea.

I wonder if that injury he had has completely ruined his shooting ability. His shot hasn’t been the same even when he was scoring last year

  3. if VO isn't one-timing for goals on the PP he is doing nothing. Get whatever you can for him and open that roster spot

  4. I think the injuries, such as the injuries to Quinn, left them open to the idea of keeping him. But this has to be the first person since Ristolainen where we are all like, “Get him the F off this team.” I find it hard to believe Adams hasn’t seriously considered it. Idk what he is waiting for. Even with injuries, you have hungry prospects ready to impress. Maybe they are indeed waiting for a healthy Patrick Kane

  5. It’s time for the Sabres to move on from Okposo, Krebs, Bryson and Olofsson.

The time for growth is over, this team needs to have standards and failing to meet said standards means you’re going to be waived or traded. That’s how winning organizations operate.

  6. I think when all are healthy Johnson can be amazing on the 3rd pair. He has more puck moving skills then joki. So I think it makes since to keep joki with powers and johnson can be the puck mover on the 3rd pair

He should be the 1st dman to move up the lineup due to injury. He plays a game that is compatible with anyone

  7. Sign Patrick Kane. Okposo can sit with Olofsson as well, dont care if hes the captain

  8. I think Tuch stole the puck from Seth Jarvis in front of the net, before scoring, not Jaccob Slavin.

  9. UPL played well. Hard to blame him on that first goal. Buffalo has had a lot of goals scored off our own deflections. Comrie lost his shut out because of one. Levi had at least a couple in those first 4 games.

  10. Last year you went off on Cozens and his muffin of a shot, then Cozens exploded. You went off on Tuch, week later, Tuch is returning to form. You go off on UPL, he's stringing together some solid play. If VO suddenly explodes you need to start doing these weekly with a rotating list of players.

  11. I'll always notice about Ollie . He is so quick to move the puck off his stick. He can't skate with the puck to create space or make a move zero hands.

  12. Are you blind? Do NOT take E.Johnson out of the line up. He is the biggest reason they are playing so well defensively. I'm sure even if its not him getting to the guy that needs coverage, I'm sure he told the guys where to go and what to do. If I were to keep R.Johnson, then bench Clifton. He has been making some bad plays. Maybe you didn't notice in that Carolina game but he passed it away with very little pressure to a teammate that had direct pressure on them (he does this more often than I expected someone of his experience) . He did that twice in the first period. He takes some of the worst penalties and ruins shutouts (ok that shut out one was random but that still was missing the goal til he elbowed it in).
Olofsson, the only reason he was kept (imo) from last season to this season was he did score 28 goals. He has yet to get a goal. I know his minutes and games have greatly been reduced but when he was in the lineup and got the puck he just didnt shoot.

  13. I think the “Easy” thing to do, is to trade Jokiharju and Olofsson. Johnson, Benson and Savoie all deserve ice time, over those two. You have to make critical decisions, when you have this much talent, and you have two aging prospects on expiring deals. It’s a no brainer, if you’re making smart moves. You still have Bryson, who is a competent 7th D.

  14. Victor just seems like a similar case to Jonathan Huberdeau in Calgary. What he offers doesn't fit with how the team functions. He doesn't get the puck deep and get in dirty areas or come with speed. He glides everywhere and doesn't ever want to engage in board battles. I think he needs a new start somewhere because it just isn't working here.

  15. I believe that if there ever was a time and a team that we may be able to trade Olofsson to, it’s the San Jose Sharks! They are in desperate need of a shake up and Olofsson and maybe Bryson could fit that. Not sure what we’d get back tbh, but the NEED help and we need to dump Olofsson and make room for Savoie. Same thing by trading Bryson, to make room for Ryan Johnson.
