Just a day after signing NCAA’s leading scorer, the Colorado Avalanche plunged back into draft-free free agent pool. This time, they signed defender Sam Malinski from Cornell University. This certainly shouldn’t shock anyone, but Malinski was captain of Cornell this year, his final season. Malinski fills a big need in blueline for Avalanche. He’s a right-field defender who lost when they traded players like Justin Barron and Drew Helleson last season.
