No Wins, Embarrassing Losses, Fire Everyone – The Pucknologists 196

*Apologies for the technical difficulties*

Welcome to NOvember… as in NO wins, NO defense, NO trust, NO fun. The Sharks give up 20 goals in 2 games this week for historic back to back losses.

We dive into the continued lack of team trust, fans blaming Erik Karlsson for the Sharks’ current woes, calls for firing David Quinn and Mike Grier, and the Sharks coughing up 2 dimes in 2 home games. Also, some former Sharks got honored this past week while former Shark Joe Pavelski keeps swimming in the fountain of youth.

Other notable topics include the NHL penalizing Ottawa for the Dadonov trade debacle, the new Chicago Blackhawks logo, updating NHL event logos, and a familiar junk pick-up promotion.

Finally, Jerk loses yet another bet and another new weekly prize pack is given away as we do every Sunday this season.

– Vancouver Canucks historically embarrasses the Sharks with a 10-1 loss
– Erik Karlsson and the Pittsburgh Penguins drop another dime on a flailing Sharks squad
– Who takes the fall for the worst Sharks season ever?
– How are the Sharks having the same problems, year over year?
– Heroes and Zeros
– San Jose Sharks notebook for the week… Marleau and Thornton jerseys get retired, Google has no timeline, stealth jerseys are still available,
– Stories around the NHL… the Ottawa Senators gets penalized, the Chicago Blackhawks tweak their logo, the NHL needs new art
– San Jose Barracuda… worse than the Sharks?
– Tweet of the week… old jokes are new again
– and more…

  1. I was there Saturday on that 10-2 loss and the seats fairly full based of the give-away Jersey. The crowd was in to the game.

  2. i say fire everyone, fire fucking everyone and get rid of the old guard like hockey jerk said a day or so ago. enjoy the podcast and appreciate that you post it on youtube since thats where i watch you two.

  3. as isle fan who lived through the mid 90s fisherman jersey era i feel your pain ive always respected how passionate sharks fans are you guys always stuck by your team

  4. also question for you both, do you think grier is keeping the young guys in the ahl to not win games and tank hard(er)?

  5. My first Sharks game they lost something like 6-2 to Vancouver. I was still hooked for life. 🤷

  6. i don’t entirely agree with the point that players aren’t as marketable as winning. they go hand in hand, but often times if you’re losing the way to build a culture around your team is through marketing your players. The Mets in NY in baseball are a great example of this. Routinely terrible, yet a hugely rabid fanbase and a robust casual following. all of my casual friends who barely watch all know who Pete Alonso is, bros just a household name here. Islanders is somewhat similar(though obviously have been much better performance wise in recent years)in the sense that most of my friends who barely watch or know anything about hockey at least know who Ilya Sorokin is, he’s just our guy. If you can build a mythic around a guy it can sell a lot and bring a lot of casual fans into a more loyal following as well. I think like with all expansion teams, building culture and following takes time(not saying y’all don’t have any)and as the sharks are relatively young as a franchise they’re still in this phase of growth, especially in a non traditional hockey market. Usually adding some mythos to the team will engage interest regardless of how shit the team is, though they have to stop with the 10 goal losses for sure no amount of mythos will help that lol.

  7. I wouldn't want to be playing for John Tortorella and losing to the Sharks.
