The New Jersey Devils Won a Thrilling game 5-4 in Overtime Over The New York Islanders. Brock Nelson had 2 goals, Bo Horvat had 2 goals, and Ilya Sorokin tried their best efforts to help the Islanders win,but the NJ Devils had alot of their players step up in this game.
Jack Hughes scored 2 goals, one of which was the OT game winning goal and added 2 assists and was all over the ice. Timo Meier had 2 assists and was a factor as well. After being benched by head coach Lindy Ruff, Meier turned it around and played a very physical game. Tyler Toffoli scored his 1st goal as a Devil and Luke Hughes added his first of the year as well.
The Devils power play was a huge factor in this win as the scored 4 power play goals, but not all was great as Nico Hischier didn’t play in the 3rd period as he sustained an upper body injury. Lindy Ruff was very tight lipped about his injury but said he will be re-evaluated today to know the extent of his injury.
The Devils now 2-1-1 played a fun game against a Metropolitan division rival and Jack Hughes and Jesper Bratt continue to be amongst the league leaders in the league with points.

This team is packed with talent ! Now it’s up to coaches to find optimal line combination . To be a cup contender we still need a shutdown defenseman and an elite goaltending . Brandon Smith is liability and neither Vitek or Akira are there yet ( not sure if they will be ) . Nevertheless it’s a great time to be a Devils fan !
Hope Hischier and Haula are back soon. Crazy season so far the schedule is terrible. Jack, Bratt and Dougie off to incredible starts. Once the teamplay comes together should be incredible. Lets Go Devils!
This team is Schizophrenic. Last year the powerplay was fair to average. This year the PP looks as lethal as the Deathstar! I wound up listening to the OT period as I was out. I screamed my head off with Jack's goal.
Can someone please tell me what Holtz has to do to get more ice time? Ruff has him averaging 10 mins a game (2nd lowest) I get he doesn't kill penalties, and is on PP2, But come on, tell the kid this is your make or break year and then give him 3 minutes a period to do something and put him on a line with guys that play a completely different style of hockey than Holtz. The kid needs a set up man (like Meier did for him in the preseason)and it seems Ruff is determined to get Holtz off the team. When asked about him, Lindy will never give Holtz a compliment in a interview…so will someone tell me SPECIFICALLY, what Holtz has done in a game that is so horrible that keeps him in Ruff's dog house? Because, I am not seeing it.
So glad the sked maker gave Jack a platform in which to destroy the opposite team 😂 he's doing it at will now 😮 great job by Timo, Toff, Lazar, Dougie, Bratt 😊 hope the Captain and Uncle Erik are ok
The impatience fans have displayed is just ridiculous. After only THREE games, they sonehow expect every player to be racking up goals or else consider them to be worthy of heavy criticism or blame Ruff for mismanagement of players. Again, this was only the 4th game of the season. Folks need to relax. The goals are coming, the wins are coming, sit back and enjoy the ride!
More toughness. You can’t take a shot at our captain without paying the price. Devs need a Ryan Reeves or Arber Xheka type player. This team needs to get tougher.
Jack Hughes set a new Devils record for most points in the FIRST four games of the season with 10. It was previously held by Scott Stevens who had 8 points (which Jesper Bratt has now, he's tied with Stevens for second most points).
