Thoughts on Jakob Silfverbergs play on the ice?

I’ve noticed that instead of shooting the puck to the net, he will make the extra pass, and put the player in a bad angled shot. He is now averaging 12 min of ice time a game with a total of 7 shots on goal in those 5 games.

Points on board he’s the same as Zegras. He’s actually been, to the eye test, a decent defender but seems like he’s lost too many steps and is now worth of the 4th line, especially when the rest of the team is healthy. We just have too many better forwards on contract.

Looks a lot worse than that score sheet would suggest.

  3. His offensive game is very clearly washed, but he’s not a liability defensively so at least he has that going for him. Just need to keep his minutes down.

He’s been utilized well but he’s slowing down for sure. He’s also not the only one who makes the extra pass instead of shooting

He’s fine as the role player he’s become. Will have occasional offense and not be a defensive liability. I’m more annoyed about Strome’s giveaways than anything Jakob is doing.

I’m excited for next season when his contract is off our books.

Imo he’s even done for awhile, good player when he was younger but the game is passing him by.

Zero foot speed at this point but if they could somehow throw out a Silf-Groulx-McGinn(when healthy) 4th line I think that’d be ideal, maybe with Carrick rotating in to keep people fresh

His skating stride looks slow and labored resulting in a significant loss of speed. This is to be expected given the hip injuries he has sustained. It’s been tough to watch.

Thank you all for responding to this post! I wanted to start this conversation mostly to learn and see if my eyes are deceiving me. I also don’t wanna say players suck or anything of that sort, but I wanna add context to a players level of play.

I am trying to learn hockey and see the game from the lens of a scout, player, coach, etc. and the way some of you guys broke down this players level of play was very interesting to read.

    Thank you all! #DucksFlyTogether

As basically everyone has said, Malfoy looks like he’s skating through cement nearly every time he hops over the bench. It does appear his defensive awareness is there but he seems sluggish to react in most situations. I actually was texting a friend the other day that there’s no way he signs another contract when his current one expires. Kind of sad, always been a fan favorite and good Middle sixish type forward. Alas, it is to be expected given all of his recent bad injuries and age.

Have you looked at Henrique’s ice time other than last night? He had like 7 min of ice time.

On that note, I’m surprised the 4th line had so much ice time even when we were looking for a goal late in the third.
