OHL Weekend Notebook: Mar. 7, 2022

The OHL Weekend Notebook recaps the weekend that was with news, information and interesting facts from both on and off the ice.

Owen Sound on the winning board
The Owen Sound Attack turned things around following an eight-game losing slide with five straight victories, including three in the last week. Cedrick Guindon scored four goals including the overtime winner in Friday’s 4-3 win over Guelph while Nick Chenard backstopped the Attack to a shutout victory on Saturday, posting 27 saves for the win over Saginaw (51-17-33).

A Battalion birthday win
Mitchell Russell celebrated his 21st birthday with a pair of goals on Sunday as the Battalion clinched their third-straight win, while Matvey Petrov and Ty Nelson both had a pair of assists in front of a 28-save performance from Joe Vrbetic . North Bay now sits just two points back of first place Mississauga in the central division (54-31-17).

Petes fight for playoff spot
The Peterborough Petes continued to fight for a playoff position, grabbing six points in a three-in three as Michael Simpson was a difference-maker, defending the crease in all three games. The Petes had no trouble scoring as Tucker Robertson had a hat-trick in Niagara on Friday while Philadelphia Flyers prospect J.R. Avon lit the lamp four times in Saturday’s 6-2 win over Oshawa (50-21-26).
