>”For that to happen and I’ll be set back a week, that’s just unfortunate,” Werenski said. “But I’m happy with where I’m at [and] how the recovery’s gone. And I’m hoping to shoot for Friday for my first game back.”

>”I don’t want to go too far into it,” Werenski said. “But I think if you look at the player, and you look at the history, and you look at the play, he knows what he’s doing. He’s got no intent to play the puck. He has no regard for it. All he’s trying to do is send a message to me, to our team, to, I don’t know, his teammates.”

If your entire career, livelihood, and future earnings are at stake in trying to both avoid injury and avoid the impression that you’re injury-prone, acting out in this way is a strange look. He wouldn’t accept any kind of apology on the ice and acts like he was cold-cocked instead of kneed in the thigh. Everyone’s seen the replay and a strong argument can be made that the hit was a high-adrenaline accident. W’s refusal to man up during the game or a week later is not a strong look.

I was there. And remember he got a 2 min minor for it.(after the refs first said a major then got a call from Toronto saying no no it’s the jackets who cares) Then the league comes out with the maximum(checks notes) 5k fine!!! Ohhhhhhhhhh such a fine. The biggilyist fine ever.

I’m 5’7” I’d assaulted Hathaway. Full charge. It saddens me no one on the team felt the need to go after him after that.

If it costs $5000 and a 2 minute penalty to essentially win a game, we should really start headhunting other teams top players. That’s my take away from our home opener.
