When Matthews does this in the playoffs when it's most important, I'll be more impressed. Draisaitl scored 4 goals, then 2 goals in games 1 and 2 vs Vegas,(6 goals in 2 games)now that's impressive! Still absurd that Matthews did this in the first 2 games of the season. I tip my 🧢 . 😊
Ovechkin scored more goals than Matthews last year when both played close to full seasons. At 37 that was very impressive keeping Matthews off of his shoulders another year. Now though. What can you expect? The 26 vs.38 year old prime years player on good regular season team vs. Old legend on a questionable team. I hate to see ovie go out these last seasons on a poor team if that is to be the case. He can’t do the heavy lifting all by himself. Is it such a horrible idea to ship him to a good team these last seasons in a trade for draft picks and solid youngsters? I know caps fans want to follow ovie chasing the record, but that record won’t taste as good if you’re constantly losing. Is risking the future for a long time worth it just to have ovie in a caps uniform when he possibly scores 895 and 900? He’ll always be a cap no matter who he scores those goals for. Now, the caps have only played one game. If Mantha gets his thumb out of his ass, all other players come to play and Backstrom/Oshie indeed are healthy and ready to roll a full season I see them having a shot at the playoffs, but there is no question Matthews will win the rocket if he plays more than 70 games at this stage of his career. The leafs will easily make the playoffs, but can they win two rounds?
Let's not oversell this by a real lot. Not saying he's not good, but the Wild defense is fucking abysmal. At least 3 of those guys are 6/7 or worse dmen on any other team. The only legit pairing the Wild have right now are Faber (who has been an absolute stud) and Brodin. With Spurgeon out, the Wild are relying on Middleton, Goligoski, Merrill and Addison. Most of who should not be getting nightly NHL minutes.
