  1. As a now 42 year old, i was a kid in this mid to late 80s era. I remember it was encouraged to go in 'hard', but, as others have commented on here, its not really tough to go out and intentionally hurt someone.
Though there are issues nowadays with play acting and diving, I'd much rather have the football we have today. Even lower league teams try to pass the ball now.
I don't miss the days of terrible fouls that go unpunished, lumping the ball forward at any opportunity and mudbaths for pitches.
The misty eyed sentimentalists will naysay, but the game we have now (on the pitch) is vastly superior.
The major issues now are foreign investment and sports washing, which needs eradicating, before we completely lose the soul of the game.

  2. Unaffectionatly known at Manchester City as "McPointalot", as thats about all he did.

  3. Where’s the clip where he let England down in 1990 with that shit 1st touch of his v Republic of Oirland and Sheedy mopped up and scored ?

  4. Vinny sorted him in the cup final good and proper . Pearce sorted him as well on England duty .Apparantly it took three to pull Pearce off him .👍🇬🇧👊🏻🇬🇧

  5. Nothing impressive for me ridiculous tackles that could end careers, probably wouldn't say boo to a goose of the pitch.

  6. Horrible player, I'm glad football has moved on from the pseudo hard man image, try & actually win the ball instead of just clattering into the players 😂

  7. Just forgetting the ball and crunching someone in a 50/50 doesn’t take much courage.. McMahon would be suspended most of the season and the league would be better for it.

  8. There's always been dirty footballers…. at all levels of the game…..it's all about using gamesmanship instead of skill. Lots of clubs have utilized such tactics.

  9. No doubt Macca was 'hard' … however more of a lunatic, anything other than a silent assassin, and a karma-baiter. So many stories take the shine off his gloss, I remember reading about him charging for interviews when Robson did otherwise the playing era both shared, coming second best in fights with Niall Quinn (and even Grobbelaar), kicking the sh*t out of Reid whilst injuring himself when attempting to 'do' Ebbrell, oh, and let's not forget the 'one-minute' business … 🤦‍♂

  10. I used to hate this guy with a passion growing up now as a 63 year old I'd have him in my team in a heartbeat.

  11. Seems like a bit of a dick to be honest. If the tackle is fair then great, smash em up. But mostly he was doing ABH.

  12. A great player, I don't support Liverpool but loved watching him play.
Football was good to watch back then, no play acting after the slightest touch like today's Nancy's.

  13. Trash talking, sliding, dodging, kicking, headbutting, poking, hugging, bumping, pushing, swiping, slapping, tripping, forearming

  14. Players don't tackle like that today cos they're not allowed to. If they were, then you'd see more tackles like this from modern players.
