Help cleaning my Kraken hat

I’ve had this hat for a while and in the past I had success cleaning it with a tooth brush and hand soap, however it seems like sweat has caused this gnarly red/rusted tint to show even after cleaning.

I’ve had similar problems with a Mariners 45 cap in the blue in the past.

I’m blasting it with oxiclean in a soak right now.

Any other tips, or should I consider this a yardwork cap?

Those stains look permanent. Might be time for a new cap.

I wonder if there’s a hat cleaning subreddit

Sadly, that is the color of ink leaving your hat – not a stain. From my experience, hats (and clothes) that are this color often turn this same shade as they age and are exposed to water – sweat, rain, etc.

That’s permanent my dude. I have the same 47 brand hat, hats actually. They’re the only ones I buy. After getting sweat and sun burned so to speak that is their natural color.

Let it sit in a vinegar and water mixture. Rub baking soda over it afterwards and then clean it with a mixture of baking soda and hydrogen peroxide (some say to add salt in there as well).

The best option is the hockey jersey cleaning method. It might not take everything out but I use it on my hats and it does amazing work as with my jerseys.

    Ingredients:

    Oxyclean

    Hot water

Tub with lid large enough for your item

    Rubber gloves

    Method:

Fill tub with as hot of water as you can handle.

    Place item in tub.

Add a decent amount of Oxyclean, personal preference here.

Mix in the Oxyclean, I like to gently rub/clean the item too a little bit to work everything in.

Set a timer for 3 hours and let it sit with the lid on.

I come back to check on it and mix things around a bit every 45-60 minutes.

After time is up, empty water out and wash item in washer on gentle cycle. In this case I use the dishwasher.

Let it dry and reshape and you’ll be good to go.

As mentioned, this method will probably remove a chunk of the nasty but maybe not all.

  7. I say wear it just like that, and with pride!

That hat has seen some miles, and most likely has interesting stories to tell. No need to try and strip it of its character!*

*NB: this post was written by an old man who feels like that hat looks.

I have the same hat and it’s doing the same thing. I think it’s from sun fade.

  9. If you aren’t able to clean it, you could always do some fun bleach spraying on it or something like that to repurpose it. I know that’s not a fix and might not be your style, but it’s a thought!

Tis permanent, could always dye the entire hat, then redye the logo

  11. Just bring it to the next game in Seattle. Then you can throw it into the ice when Matty gets his hat trick and use the 30% discount to buy a new hat from The Pro Shop.
