john, john, john. canucks opening season home game. shorty calls the game. as far as being fair, shorty is one of the most professional in the business.
The arrangement of announcers last night was strange… why not have the home announcers call the games? The same would go when the Canucks visit Edmonton… the game last night was called with so little energy even though the game itself should have been buzzing…
I literally was just watching the 93 Leafs/Kings game where McSorley levelled Gilmore and Barry is behind the bench with his finger on his face stance and was thinking about him and wondering what he’s up to.
Why is John Shannon such a loser? Canucks opening game at home and we get the Oilers crew. Let me guess, on Saturday night we won't get Shorty in Edmonton? They didn't do "fine." Give the Canucks home opener the bloody Canucks announcers.
On the one hand, nothing new about national announcers for mid-week games. The problem is that this particular gentleman is simply dreadful. I doubt that anyone out there actually enjoys listening to his voice. He's not the only bad one. There are a few of them nowadays, both in Canada and the States, but he's certainly near the top of the list. The people in charge don't seem to notice or to care — I don't know which is worse.
They should COMBINE one colour commentary+play by play guy from either side for these home openers. It's just not fair to have Randeep call Hronek has the puck and then 15 trillion years later we find out Boeser scored.
Shorthouse would have done more justice to the Oilers players.
For the Oilers, it wasnt just the score its how little they seemed to care between the whistles. There were plays where they didnt even try to compete, but are whining after the whistle or Draisaitl just trying to injure guys at the end instead of making a play for the puck. Not a good look. Sometimes you play well and a couple bounces go against you and it gets out of reach and you conserve energy for the next one. This wasnt that, they didnt even try.
I have to disagree with John. It was a Canucks home game therefore the broadcasters should be from Vancouver. Could you imagine if they had a Montréal broadcaster on a Toronto game if the situation was the same!
Singh is a national guy? I don't think I've ever seen him do anything other than Oiler games. He did the Oiler playoff games last season but once they were eliminated did he do the any of the third and fourth round games?
I don't mind Singh taking the broadcast as it was national, but the secondary on air voice should probably have been local. And guys, lets not forget that Singh is a legend in the lower mainland. He calls a good game and Shorty gets plenty of work besides.
Barely heard Singh say anything good about the Nucks but threw in some compliments the Coilers way even while they were getting destroyed, He's a Deadmonton fan alright, Don't get it twisted.
Singh is officially a National Broadcaster but we all know he is definite an Oilers guy. Same thing when Jim Hughson was a national broadcaster but he was definitely a Canucks guy as well. It is what it is.
Still is somewhat confusing as the comments below indicate, I am assuming then Shorty and Tomlinson will work Saturday? With an Oiler on the 'ground' so to speak ala Dan Murphy last night? I understand what Shannon is saying about Singh as a National broadcaster, but it is not really straightforward as he seems to indicate. MORE CLARIFICATION FOR DE FANS!

I couldn't believe that Sportsnet was so clueless that they didn't have the home broadcast crew on for the season opener.
Screw it! Vancouver game = Vancouver broadcast crew. Edmonton can have anyone they want at home. Simple stuff.

So on Saturday when zero Canucks broadcasters are on what will you say then?!?

If Singh is a ‘national guy’ then the standard is too low. He sounds about right for junior games.
What the hell is SHannon talking about? Singh is literally an Oiler guy. That was an Oiler duo broadcasting the game. Nice try…
Yes, it was a national Oilers show. Singh is an Oilers guy through and through. No excuse for an Oilers broadcast at a Canucks home game.
For me 'fair' would be having the Canucks crew do the Vancouver home opener and then the Oilers crew do the Edmonton home opener. N'est pas?
Singh is horrible.
will be interesting to see who's calling the game in edmonton

So in Edmonton we get shorthouse announcing because its another national game?

He may be a National broadcaster but he calls the game like he is an Oiler plus he is not very good.

I just hate when they have john on… such a nhl kiss ass

The quality of NHL broadcasts, both in TV and radio, have really gone downhill over recent years. Last night was a perfect example.
Feel bad that Singh is getting dragged for Sportsnet’s bad call. However imo John Shannon is completely wrong.
While he 100% does National broadcasts; Go listen to the way Singh calls an Evan Bouchard goal & compare it to any Canucks goal scored last night…
Segments with John Shannon are the worst as this guy is clueless and never has much of value to add.
I still think it's hilarious that the Oilers think they are a cup contender with Soup. He ain't it. Great thing for the Canucks!!!
Wednesday Night Hockey is a National Game. You get the National crew
John slayin the jokes; wood burning computer and "hope you get free tires" lmaoooo
