  1. Tbh as a jets fan I would have hoped that this team would have undergone a rebuild. This team hasn’t been a cup contender since 18-19 and it’s been going downhill since. I understand why they didn’t since they are a smaller market but they’ve been mediocre since their run in ‘18. They built that team through the draft and need to get back to that, especially when you have Locker room/culture issues. Maurice stepping down mid-season was pretty unprecedented and Bowness’s comments after the playoffs spoke volumes. “Nobody wants to play in Canada” is such a lazy argument when you have guys like Hughes and Matthews signing extensions when they could have walked.

  2. Winnipeg should advertise tour packages in the surrounding areas. In terms of geography, it has the largest market in the NHL. Places like Brandon, Kenora, Thunder Bay, Grand Forks and even into Saskatchewan has a lot of fans who simply can't easily attend games without having to plan lodging and travel. Work a deal out with nearby hotels and bus operators, and you'll not only solve the empty seat problem, you could make a little extra on the side with these tours too. There's well over an additional million people in Winnipeg's market that can only watch the games on TV.

  3. I'm not convinced a rebuild would kill attendance, especially compared to that 21 game absolute slump last season. I would rather watch prospects and new guys cutting their teeth putting their entire being into the game as opposed to whatever happened there last year.

Those first few years were pretty rough too, they were middling at best — Atlanta was not a good team… Sure the city was high on having hockey back but the guys that were there were all work horses, and played their hearts out. They lost but the other team paid for their wins with sweat, sometimes blood and plenty of bruises.

The slump mid-season last year was not that. That was something else. It was a complete disconnect and lack of effort. And it was a continuation of the season before when they missed the playoffs.

I love all these guys and I am over the moon for Helly and Scheif's commitment & I am hoping that gesture and Lowry's leadership can steady the ship in those situations this time around because… They gave up on those games. They stopped skating. They did not have the will to win. Every jets fan could see it.

Vilard, Iafallo, and Kupari all seem like pretty eager competitors too, and I think Vilardi could be a sleeper in the league — for real. He could wake up at any point with those top line minutes and Scheifele and Conner on the ice.

  4. Tough to get people to buy tickets with the price of daily necessities these days.
Im fairly well off, but to go to a game for 2 people is $500 for one night. Add in a couple kids and its $1000 a night.
    Dinner, drink, tickets. Etc.
    Kind of crazy for 2.5hours.

  5. 6 years NYR season tix at MSG in the nose bleed section. Which is where the majority of the noise comes from, and where the passion is birthed.
    Get a new building!

  6. My understanding is that the Jets are upper middle of the pac in revenue. Also, the Jets are making/have made a lot of money. They have rev streams that a lot of NHL teams don’t have, like a casino.

  7. Honestly, I think the Jets lack identity. Those old jerseys and old logo are iconic. Now, they just look boring and completely generic. The Columbus Blue Jackets of Canada, although potentially an even duller look if that's even possible. And it extends to the roster, too: a lot of good players. No interesting ones. Apart from Hellebuyck, who is their most exciting player? Kyle Connor?

I'm sure all that talk about the locker room issues didn't help endear them to the fanbase, either. But at least Wheeler is gone, so that's a plus. But still, they need to rebrand ASAP and fine at least one player who someone would actually want to watch. Scheifele is not that guy. He's a Matt Duchene or a Paul Stastny.

  8. The attendance is worrying for sure. Smaller, working class cities just don't have as much money to go towards things like live sports with inflation right now. I usually go to a few Jets games a year and I can't even begin to think about this season. We just don't have the same stock of high end business types who never run out of disposable income to keep going to games as bigger cities.

  9. As a Coyotes fans, part of me likes the Jets.
Part of me thinks the hyperbolic negativity towards them is hilarious because a lot of their fans are still crybabies about the relocation lol

  10. There's more to life than tax breaks and weather. No hurricanes or earthquakes in Winnipeg. Cough up some $ ownership instead of breaking fans' backs.

  11. J Fresh's model is super high on Winnipeg and after picking them for a franchise mode run in NHL24 and seeing their roster up close…I think they might be really good this year.

  12. Its nice that the NHLs revenue was $6.2b..Doesnt tell us anything about profit. What if their expenses were $7.2b

  13. I will never criticize you for doubling up on Jets content. They are one of the most intriguing teams in the league.
