[Novozinsky] From what I understand, Simon Nemec will be among those cut from the #Devils’ opening night roster. Of course, the NHL roster world is always fluid, but as of now, the No. 2 pick will join the Utica Comets (AHL) soon.

What’s the record for most penalties recorded in a season? Might have to bet the over for Smith.

I’m not surprised, but I’d be damned if I’m not gonna scream at my TV the second I see Smith shit himself to either give up a score or commit a penalty.

Not a reflection of his ability, he will be back.

Makes sense. It’s a luxury to let him marinate for another season and let the elc slide until he’s older. Smith really isn’t as bad as people say, he can be capable.

This was always going to happen. A team that fancies itself a Cup contender was not going to throw a 19-year-old d-man out there every night when you’ve already got a 20-year-old d-man who’s played 5 NHL games in the lineup.

Nemec will play NHL games this year. But they want to see Luke get established and settled in first.

So that’s the sensible reaction. But, yeah, ugh, Brendan Smith. I get it. Hopefully we see more of Miller than Smith, not that Miller is exactly Bobby Orr himself.

alternate title: Devils icing weaker roster than they could

  7. FriedCammalleri23

    Sad, but I get it.

I really think he’s ready, but I know they want as much experience on the blue line as possible.

Nemec outplayed Luke all preseason just saying. Nemec in the minors doesnt help him at all he’s been in pro leagues for years. Kid needs NHL time get over it

At least it would have been fun seeing Nemec play and mess up, now we get to see Smith just mess up

I understand. Miller and Smith need to up their game to “serviceable” asap tho. This may be a paper move or they may make him 1st man up. Still, for us to be a contender, stability out of the 3rd pair is essential.

I think we all kinda knew this would happen. I expect our D to take a small step back this year, last year we had severson on the third pair, now it’s smith/miller. Growing pains but we’ll get through it until Nemec is ready

    Perfectly fine

I would rather him eat up big minutes down there, then play a rotation with him, Smith, and Miller

Best case scenario, Miller snd Smith hold their own, Nemec grows his defensive game with top minutes, call him up during the end of season and playoffs, save a year of ELC

He’s always there if shit hits the fan with injuries or something

Wiping away tears with money gif

    We are so stacked

Meh we won a cup with two rookie defenseman. Yes yes I know Rafalski was 26 at the time but still. Two inexperienced NHL D.

Good. Don’t make the same mistake like with Holtz last year where he was a healthy scratch for periods of time when he could’ve been in Utica much longer.

It’s all good; do what’s best for his development, roster’s deep enough to allow for that.
