[Mercogliano] Mentioned yesterday that Jonny Brodzinski is in strong position to make the NYR roster. He’s the only player who’s set to appear in all 4 preseason games so far and now the front-runner to be the 13th forward. Here’s what Peter Laviolette had to say this morning πŸ‘‡

“I thought he and his line (Thursday) night were excellent. They were the most noticeable line that generated the most chances. It’s his speed, his tenacity. He is in the game tonight, so that’s the fourth look for him – and those are earned… He’s played really well.”

To add: I’ve had people asking if Belzile and Nash being waived increases the chances for Cuylle and Othmann to make it, but I’m not so sure about that. The kids have impressed, but those vets were competing for the 13F role. Brodzinski has the most to gain from those moves.

He was all over the ice and I can tell he has a scorching wrist shot. Totally fine with him being the extra forward. The prospects probably need more time in the minors, but I could see them getting a mid season call up if there are injuries or a trade opens up a spot. No need to rush, but I’m sure Cuylle is getting anxious to get the call up.

Brodz is 30, he is what he is. A decent option for 13th forward.

If Lavy anticipates a top 9 position is in play, Cuylle is your guy. He and Othmann both stand to benefit from 20 minutes a night in Hartford, but get nothing from 8 minutes every other game in the big league. We’ve damaged enough prospects like that.

Been saying for 2 seasons his motor is needed in the bottom 6. He plays at NHL speed but lacks awareness of time and space. He’s all gas no breaks which is great for a Laviolette system but hopefully he can figure out how to be effective in all 3 zones. Routinely getting to places early or not seeing the extra pass have been the only things holding him from being in the show.

I don’t know why but I keep hoping JBrod makes it, he seems to always increase his lines tempo and pressure
