  1. The Australian crowd was way more into these games than the Chinese crowd from a few years ago when LA played Vancouver. Hopefully it sparks a big interest in the sport down there!

  2. Mika with his typical summer habits and now an injury in training camp is looking to be in good playing shape about halfway through January this season.

  3. Chinakhov strains his back taking a Babcock. I wonder what the over/under is on CBJ players on IR by opening night. I got 4.

  4. USUAL GREAT INFO AND UPDATES ! ONE DAY CLOSER TO OPENING DAY , LIKE IT !VERY PLEASED WITH THE AUSSIE TURNOUT AND ROD LAVER ARENA IS DOING THEIR BEST TO PROVIDE A GOOD VENUE , NHL NETWORK BROADCASTERS IN MELBOURNE DECENT ENOUGH .shootout after games that are not tied ,basically target practice on the goalies , IDK what is the value in that

  5. I think it's rational and even-tempered and reasonable to be disappointed if Chicago won the draft lottery again.🤷‍♂️

Penguins should balance two PP units instead of stacking PP1. Stacking has never worked well for them, passing the puck to death to basically kill the penalty for the opponent and either Crosby or Malkin as a square peg in a round hole.

    Point: Karlsson/Letang
    Right wall: Malkin/Crosby
    Left wall: Rakell/Rust
    Primary slot option: Guentzel/R. Smith
Secondary slot/net front: Depends who makes the team, might have to get creative, but they'd probably go with Carter and use Ty Smith or POJ as a second D on PP2 and rotate Rust down.🙄 I guess I can't blame them for using another OFD, makes sense given shallow forward scoring, but Carter has little business on the PP at this point unless he has some miraculous resurgence.

But here's what they will do and never change, regardless of how (in)effective:

PP1: Karlsson point, Crosby and Malkin on walls, Rakell slot, Guentzel net front–at least two of the players (Guentzel and Crosby or Malkin, arguably Rakell too) in a misused spot
PP2: Letang point, Carter net front, Rust slot, R. Smith right wall, Ty Smith/POJ left wall

Probably another season with a mediocre PP rank propped up by 5-on-3 and 4-on-3 while the 5-on-4 rates below average.

  6. Man, back in Sweden I'd stay up to watch games that started at 0330. After which I usually felt ripped off because I was watching the canucks.

  7. If the NHL wanted to sell more merch they should have brought a reasonable amount over – 70% of it got snapped up at the barely-advertised and cancelled halfway through open practice, and the rest before the first game started. Australians – particularly those of us used to live music and touring bands – will always buy merch at an event, because postage typically doubles (this is not a joke) the price of any given item coming from North America. Still, when that's one of my only complaints about the first ever NHL game in my home town, it's not remotely bad.

  8. Hey dood. To answer your question – Markus Naslund elected not to finish his contract with NYR. Hockey fans everywhere shed a tear that day… but hey what can ya say, the guy wanted to spend time with his family in Sweden.
