The New Jersey Devils have signed defenceman Dougie Hamilton to a huge 7-year contract with a cost of $9 million per year. The Devils also traded defenceman Will Butcher and a draft pick to the Buffalo Sabres to free up the cap room.

I'm not that sad about Butcher leaving in all honesty. The Guy was invisible most of the time, there were moments last season where I legitimately forgot he was even in the roster.
As for Hamilton, its not a bad signing, although I'm not a fan of the term.

The Devils have signed free agent defenseman Dougie Hamilton to a 7-year contract worth a whopping $63 million ($9 million per year). The Devils will trade P.K. Subban and a 2022 1st-round pick to the Devils in exchange for Vladimir Tarasenko and trade Gilles Senn and a 2022 4th-round pick to the Devils for Johnny Gaudreau.

More and more players are inching toward the 10-11M mark. I believe Devils pays too much for Hamilton the same as Oilers to Seth Jones. Not that l hate both players. Just insane contracts.
I got no issue with it about time we land some big name free agent and Butcher needed a change of scenery his first year was great and seriously thought we had someone good but after that year he just couldn't replicate that which is a shame
