Although the actual hit with the stick was not bad, at what point do we have to ask ourselves what the intent behind his actions. He was angry, and used his stick (potential weapon) to attack Jarrry near the head/crown. We know that a swing to the pads can be as innocuous as a congratulations. But a spear of the stick toward the head/neck of another player, force of atttack notwithstanding, seems malicious or with some attempt to cause, at minimun, pain to the other player. Now this happens in hockey all the time, players throwing a hit that is sanctioned and may cause some temporary pain, but that is an agreement that is made by way of codified rules and slight bits of convention. This is different, it is not McSorely/Brashear, every hockey fan wishes to never see that again. But a player used his stick to attack another player, after the whistle, and after a "cheap shot" was made. Jarry has a full mask so we know that punch probably did not cause too much discomfort. But this was after a whistle, on a very nice save. Sure, Jarry probably said something to irritate him but I do not see how that could be any sort of provocation. Just an angry little man, needs to be taught a lesson.

Brad is a scumbag, but the Pens have to do something about that. He had been an asshole the whole game and nobody does anything and see where it escalates? If you punch him in the face the 1st time he does some slime ball stuff, typically it will make someone think twice about doing it more
Respect to Jarry for keeping his cool. He could have easily, and justifiably lost his shit and gone after Marchand. Probably bothered Marchand even more that he didn't, honestly.
It's not the punch that bothers me. It's how the ref protected The Rat and escorted him right back to Jarry. If his blade would've got up under his mask or got him in the eye through the cage it could've been bad.
Resident Bruins fan here, he deserved more than 6 games for this in my opinion considering his history of being this way. Pittsburgh also needs a guy to punch Marchand's head completely off his shoulders next time they play.

I took this from ECHL site. where it also states Marchand got SIX game suspension, and they now say Marchand, and other repeat offenders, will have harsher punishments each time. Due to the factor that this will be Marchand's EIGHTH suspension while playing in NHL.
The factor that in the post by ECHL Jarry downplays it and keeps his demeanor, shows his character.

If Jarry was bothered by Marchand's behavior, he didn't let on during a postgame news conference in which he downplayed the incident.
