Leafs Morning Take: I want to see a blood bath Oct 11 against Montreal

Leafs Morning Take (a Pod that I discovered thru r/Leafs – thanks to whoever posted about it) said they want to see a Blood Bath come October 11th against the Montreal Canadiens.

Treliving has architected a Leaf team that can pulverize opponents and intimidate. Instead of a team that gets pushed around from opening day and all the way into the their early playoff departures.

You know what? I 100% agree.

I want to see Reaves vs WiFi at center ice that night. And I want a signal to the NHL and even payback for all the second rate players that thought it was ok to dummy Matthews (eg. Konecny) and sideline our rookies (eg. Panthers).

Who loves a tougher squad in 2023 that’s not afraid to put on the foil?

And what type of ways did the Leafs get pushed around over the past 6 years that we want to end now.

We have the toughest goon for 3 years and a lot of other tough guys now too…..from opening day!

Get the popcorn boys and girls!

This all but guaranteed a loss.

I have no doubt whatsoever Domi fights somebody and we see Reaves vs Wifi.

Wifi followed Simmonds around the ice last year and Simmonds stayed as far away from Wifi as possible. It was disappointing to say the least.

  4. Temper expectations. Reaves probably won’t play much, and Domi and Bert aren’t fighters. Domi had 2 fights last year and Bert had 1. Both guys are pests who will yap and do some pushing and shoving between whistles. There’s a reason Marner described those additions as “piss and vinegar”—it’s really about bringing more energy and vigour. Tre himself used the term “snot”, which really is to say guys who play with some edge—guys who have the courage to get in the trenches. But thinking this team is going to “pulverize” and “intimidate” opponents is misguided. I do think face-washes/60 will increase substantially though.

You want it to be a blood bath against one of the worst teams in the league?

What I want to see is the Leafs bully them on the scoreboard and have an October and November where they can show they can give an effort for a full 60 minutes.

There are going to be so many people vehemently disappointed when they realize this team is only going to be marginally “tougher” than last year’s team.

And the number of people who seem to think Max Domi = Tie Domi is mind boggling.

Leafs D is the definition of a regular season defence. Not surprisingly, the past few cup winners have had monsters in the top 6 with at least 1 Norris caliber guy.

Buddy you do realize the more fights your team has the worse they are, right? The teams who made it to the second round were nowhere near the top of the league in fights. Seattle(14th), Florida(15th), Edmonton(23rd), New Jersey(24th), Toronto(25th), Vegas(26th), Dallas(28th), and Carolina (32nd). Obviously the team has to be tough, but an October “blood bath” isn’t hockey, and it shouldn’t be.

Wi-Fi will get killed by reaves. He likely still tries but he’s not a good fighter he gassed out after 10 seconds if he doesn’t get a takedown

I like that you used WiFi in one sentence, and used signal in the next. Funny stuff

  11. Not a blood bath. That’s not what we need.

We need a high tempo aggressive game where we finish every single hit and send a signal that we are going to go through anything this year.

None of it will matter because our star players don’t play with any “piss and vinegar”. Tampa one two cups and played in a 3rd final because their stars (Kucherov especially) play with a ton of hate. Marner getting punched and laughing is not good. Punching back is good!
