NHL’s greatest hate triangle? I may be biased because I cheer for one of them, but any two of these already has a rivalry, when any two meet in the playoffs, it’s always a hell of a series. Is this just one big 3 way “f-you”?

Maybe so, but a rivalry should require at least some success by each team, and Toronto hasn’t won a playoff series against Boston or Montreal since 1967.

Oilers vs Flames vs Canucks would be a pretty close second. They all hate each other. The only thing they can agree on is hating the other team.

Yes. Bruins Habs and Leafs are basically the three stooges of the nhl. You can decide on which team is Moe and Larry between the Habs and Bruins, but at the end of the day the Leafs, like Curly, gets the bulk of the beatings from both of them.
But hey, no matter how much this sport changes, this rivalry will be a constant. None of these teams are going anywhere, and each of the three can give the other two a hard time.
Habs fan who grew up in the Boston area here. Obviously I’m biased to care more about one side of this hate-triangle than the other, but… yes.

Yeah, this makes sense. As a Leafs fan, I enjoy our rivalry with Montreal because it’s the oldest rivalry in NHL history and there’s respect between the two. But I absolutely loathe our games against Boston – you want overly aggressive guys, look no further than Boston.
Boston fans, please don’t take that the wrong way. Being aggressive is good but I’m saying I loathe our games against Boston because we’re just not aggressive enough to match them.
And when it comes to Montreal against Boston, I will always pick Montreal. Again, no offense to any Bruins fans reading this – I respect your achievements and determination but, as a Canadian hockey fan, I naturally gotta root for a Canadian team.

I’d guess the that NJ/NYI/NYR trio could get it going pretty well. I’m not sure how tense the Western Canada trio of CGY/EDM/VAN gets outside of the Battle of Alberta because I feel like Vancouver fans hate Chicago more than those two after their playoff history, but it should be pretty good.
Either way, I’m sure that everyone just hates the Leafs anyways.

They are so close geographically that any fan of 1 knows plenty of fans from the other 2 and is forced to deal with them regularly.
The Maple Leafs-Canadiens-Bruins hate triangle is definitely the biggest in the NHL. The only other one that I think could be close to it is the Oilers-Flames-Canucks hate triangle. Three Canadian teams in the same division and relatively close together geographically is bound to create a three-way rivalry.

As a Habs fan, this is correct. I hate the Leafs and Bruins.

There’s hate between Toronto and Boston? When I lived there, the hate was between Toronto, Ottawa, and Buffalo in the 2000’s. Lots of talent getting in each other’s way.

There are many on this sub that are too young/inexperienced to have seen a True Hatred Rivalry in the PO. That is when this comes into play.
For the less experienced, the Habs/Bruins is the single most common PO match-up in NHL history.
Habs/Bos 25-9 series 106-71 games
Habs\Tor 9-7 series 46-32 games
Bos\Tor 8-8 series Bos 42W 40L games.
I hate the Bruins genuinely with my entire soul, and I love them for existing for me to despise.
