MAYBE HE IS USING THE HABS TO JACK HIS SALARY UP!!!!
Too risky. PLD so far has been a career underachiever in the NHL. He's had one good playoff series against the Leafs with Columbus, and one good playoff game with Winnipeg. Too inconsistent. The two NHL teams he's been with demands to be traded out. No thanks, a hard pass…. specially at 9 Mil a year he's now demanding. He'll just turn out to be another Drouin 2.0 with the Habs. Don't need the headache or drama.
So disappointing to hear all this negative feedback about Dubios, habs have tons of assets, Kent has said on multiple occasions he will use assets to make the team better , and Dubios would make the team better , I don't think Dubios will get 9 million from Hughes, if Hughes decides to trade for Dubios, it will be cap hit that will satisfy both parties, he a master negotiatior , and lastly I think people should stop throwing his past in his face , everyone has things they did in the past. Wrong or right , it's not for either one of us to judge.
I would be thrilled to have PLD on the Habs, and he would be the best player on the roster , sorry Suzuki or Caufield, PLD is the full package . Stop crapping on him , he's not even on the team. Your tears him apart , for what , all he wants to do is play for his childhood team , is that a crime , last time I checked, montreal canadiens wasn't on the list of players beating down the door to play in Montreal, you should be damn lucky he wants to . Give him a fair shake for christ sake
He'll have to be 8mil or less or I don't want him
PLD is a beast ..he will help montreal…but NOT FOR 9 MIL ….MAYBE AND I MEAN MAYBE 8 MIL …BUT THIS KID WITH GIVE HIS HEART FOR THE HABS
When there's too many ifs in your decision, especially if they are negative, then walk away and focus on another player.
Sorry but the reason why I never liked P. Roy was his attitude on and off the ice. PLD has that same attitude. The young guys have a general overall positive vibe and good characters. You don't want to mess with that. PLD, once the team falls into a slump he will further that slump for his abstract motivation to play hard each day.
Pld can come to montreal and take a paycut to do it. If he want to come play for his childhood team and he wanted a trade to that city since he's in the league. he surely know about the pressure of the market. Montreal can also sign him to a brige contract. And the jets asking price should not be as high cause he have 1 years left, he wont resign and the only team he want to play is Mtl. Nobody shit on fox to wanted to play for NY, now that the canadiens have a great player who's ready to play for them, people just hate and don't see that this is nice that some people want to come here when others good hockey player flew away from canadian city
As a French Canadian isn't it sort of manfatory?
No
The track record speaks for itself here. Perhaps in a couple of years if he plays well where ever he goes next but for now I'm out.
I swear, it is like I've been a coma for 40 years , and just woke up, and the Stanley Cup finals is between, Florida and Las Vegas. Canada must be pissed off!
Very bad idea he is not a team player and demanding for a trade wherever he goes. Is asking for too much money he will be a Jonathan Drouin. No thanks.
No, please don't touch this guy who threw all the teams he played for under a bus.
Great content knuckles! Yeah, I agree… PLD is not for MTL. I don't think we need more high maintenance players. I say they build through drafting right and smart trades… cost & risk is too high for PLD in my humble opinion.
Good call Chris – as a lifelong Habs fan I'm with you. Aside from the money and the trade asset cost, looks to me like PLD was a mal-content in the QMJHL and allegedly requested a trade out of Cape Bretton – was a mal-content in Columbus and is now a mal-content in Winnipeg . Does everyone see a pattern here? Would PLD upset the locker room and team culture the Habs are building? I would not take the risk either. LA can have him – as you suggested the Habs should continue to build through the DRAFT
If the price is right, then its a no brainer. He wants to play for Mtl, and that will make a huge difference. Dubois can handle the pressure. Im not worried. Only issue is how much is he willing to accept to play here? 9Mil is a bit steep for someone who "wants" to play here, and has a bad track record on his last 2 teams. 8×8 is more in the ballpark, and i dont see him costing much to trade for. Wpg is going to get the shaft any way you look at it. Late 1st round pick and maybe a B Prospect.
Sums up the dilemma pretty well. Same here, the idea of signing him next year as a free agent I found pretty exciting, but the more the cost raises, the more my enthusiasm fades. I would especially dislike it if a promising young player e.g. Jordan Harris were to go in the process.
Absolutely not and especially not for 9 million. He isn't worth it. Montreal should be using money to get a decent goalie. That's for more important than a player that plays here and there.
Don't want him. Too much wasted potential, not enough results. We have too many guys that haven't lived up to their potential and don't end up living up to it when they get here.
Besides, if he wants to come, wait 1 year and get him in free agency.
I only take PLD for 7.5 or less x5 years and I give Florida 1rst + Dvorak or Anderson. Thats it
Looking sharp knucks!!! The Habs have a bright future.. don't part with the depth coming up on the way.. its a numbers game.. the more prospects the better chance of finding the guy.. dthe Habs stay on the path they will be ok
100% Chris, PLD is a coach killer and has a history of bailing out of where he's played.
Agree 100% with ya, not worth the risk. If he wants to play here soooo bad, then take a home town contract that lines up with Suzuki and Caufield which of course he won't do.
No way, MTL wants a hockey plyer not a locker room cancer
Hi Chris. I don't want him. Never did. Wants way more $ than he's worth plus ; Marty and management are developing a great team attitude and this guy would be a cancer to that. He has bailed on 2 teams now. We have great prospects and young players already. Let him be someone else's headache.
No prima donna is worth 9 million a year.
I'm with you Chris, If he wants to come as a UFA for a reasonable contract (Caufield money) then I'm all for PLD as a Hab. Too much risk otherwise.
No. Habs need to build on what they already have and add EXPERIENCED D-men. They're the guys who get you to the playoffs and make a run. Haven't we learned anything from the Golden Knights? Montreal has one of the best young snipers in the League (Caufield), a playmaker who works seamlessly with him like Suzuki … and young prospects like Dach, Slafkovsky, Beck and others on the forward lines. Why bring an underachiever (reported locker room cancer) like Dubois in? Because he's French? This isn't the 60s and 70s. The Habs are OLD across the roster and need to get rid of their 30-something dead weight. The veterans on their Blue Line are lower tier. They're a severe liability. The young forwards have lots of potential. But you can't go into games with those 6 or 7 guys on D and their below average Goaltending and expect to beat the best teams in the NHL Eastern conference..
How is he in the looker room? A good teammate?
You're right about needing to be a very confident person to play in Montreal. For a French Canadian kid, you have to be a rockstar like Guy Lafleur to succeed. Otherwise, you will just be an average player. St. Louis got the most out of his young guys because he made them feel like rockstars last season. I don't think PLD has it. Plus, it's too much to give when there is such potential with what they currently have without the distraction of PLD around. Kirby Dach and Cole and Nick and a couple of early first round picks recently and the guys from Laval ….. Montreal has a great thing going. Don't disrupt that now. They will fight their way into the playoffs in no time as is and then it's anybodies game. They made the Finals just a couple years ago because they had the confidence rolling to do so. They just don't need PLD and definitely not as their top paid guy. The structure is already built without the egos or money or distraction he would bring. Nevermind what you would have to give up. He would have to take 7.5mill and know his role is not #1 and adjust to fit in. Just like other great players have had to learn a role and fit into Montreal to create a TEAM. There is too much 'I' in PLD to fit into the TEAM.
The flower didn't come in and say he wanted to be the captain. It just takes a special person. It's not PLD.
Would the media be happy with PDL making huge dollars and being a supporting player?
No.
So how long would he feel like playing there. And how long would he play hard every night?
He has shown in 2 organizations that if he isn't the star, he doesn't want to play there. Montreal shouldn't cater to him and give anybody up to acquire him. Guys from Laval and the young stars all take lower paying contracts because and find a role to fit in.
Like Pazzetta and Arbor and Harvey-Pinard, Richard, etc….. Find a role and they will be loved for their efforts. Let Dach, Suzuki, Caffield grow as the big 3, and it's all just a matter of time with the recent/current draft picks. Patience. Montreal is a playoff contender for a long time and soon enough.
Does Chris live in Montreal or the Boston area? Thanks.
No way! Dubois has quit on 3 teams now! He's a baby. Fuck that noise! Cheers Knuckles
Only sign him if he's willing to take less than Suzuki! And don't pay in trade for him.
Re: the current PLD saga, I am convinced Kent Hughes will not give up any assets to obtain him. It doesn't make any sense, given the fact the Habs can get him for free once he becomes an UFA. Montréal has total leverage. PLD's agent, Pat Brisson is simply posturing. He has one goal in mind, that is to get the best possible one-year "rental" deal for his client. By the way, this is also a great predicament for the Jets, a win-win so to speak. Personally, I am convinced that Dubois ultimately wants to become a Hab, and that at the end of the day he will gladly accept from Kent Hughes a contract offer similar to that of Suzuki or Caufield. However, should he sign an 8-year deal with another team à la Matthew Tkachuk, well … his true colors would finally be revealed. If that turns out to be the case, well … so be it. The ball is in his court.
That being said, I'd be very surprised if any team would take a chance on signing PLD on a long-term contract given his track record of always abandoning ship, i.e. Columbus, Winnipeg, and let's not forget, he did the same thing when he was in the minors.
Let's learn from how the VEGAS management did it and just DO IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
PLD not worth the money or the risk and not the player we need.
If we have to trade for him? No. The contract must be under Nick too. Internal cap. He wants to play here and I respect that. If he REALLY wants to, come here in Free Agency and take a discount. 9 million is a nonstarter.
You're correct Chris, not worth it.
