Canucks had a pretty solid tandem in place not sure why they would make this deal .

A 3rd round for Desmith???? I was expecting a 6th at best

Not the fans, that’s for sure.

Why does someone have to “win” a trade? Both teams get what they want
GoldMonk44
Montreal. They get another decently high pick, get rid of a goalie when they had too many, Pearson contract will expire before that team is ready to win. Side note happy to see Pearson get a fresh start. Canucks got a career backup with injury history and had to pay a third to dump one of their numerous wingers
Contrarian_Eh
I totally missed the part where DeSmith was traded to Montreal.
fastlane37
I think both teams come out of this looking pretty good IMO.
Canucks needed to shed salary to get under the cap and needed a better backup than Martin, but don’t want to tie up money past this next season. Check, check, check.
Montreal gets Pearson, who looked like he still had a lot of tread left on the tires before in the injury (so some risk there), but if he doesn’t work out, his contract is up after this season. And they get a draft pick.
Both teams dealt from excess. I think it’s a win all around.

How can there be a winner when no one has played a game for their new teams yet?
GpRex
Montreal won for the players and pick. I think Canucks are fine with that in order to free up cap space.

Pretty square trade. Montreal benefits more for the future, so if you need to call a winner Iād lean that way. Canucks fans wonāt be too pressed over it
ice_nyne
Haha, he thinks thereās a winner

Werenāt we complaining not one draft ago about giving away our potential prospects? A third seems a little high so I think MTL takes this one by a short margin.
merlin48
I vote for the team that came out of the trade without DeSmith.
therealHankBain
All that I can say is that I guess I jumped the gun on getting that DeSmith jersey
BaFungul
Vancouver just got the best Disc Golfer in the league! What a steal.
Aegis_1984
Iād be worried about Pearsonā¦. After having multiple āfailedā surgeries on his hand, Iād be concerned that he developed CRPS. Thatās something I wouldnāt wish on my worst enemy or even Brad Marchand. I donāt think heāll have the hands Mtl is expecting. Also Canucks twitter seems to be blowing up about another pick in a deep draft, but come on⦠Rutherford got to trade Pearson again.
Badgerdont
Nice to see Pearson is actually finally healthy.
Dillygaf25
Well, DeSmith sucked so I say the Pens won

Man, Casey gets traded to his favorite boyhood team and he gets traded to Vancouver before he can play a game.

Itāll depend on the types of seasons they both have and if the players are flipped at the deadline and for what.
Sr_Raisin_bran
I think this trade’s actually pretty equal. No clear winner. Neither side lost at least.
butt_snorkelr
If either player becomes a major piece of either team that team is in trouble.

I think it’s 50/50. Let’s see what happens when the season starts.

Seems equal. Canucks traded player for player and a 3rd for cap space.
