    Hoping for some good depth numbers. It would be nice to get some goals, good defense, penalty kills, etc. from him

    The great thing about these cheap contracts is if it doesn’t work out you can bury 1.2 million of their cap hit in the minors.Basically a free roll of the dice for many of these guys.

    I like these cheap contracts where you get someone who specializes in one thing. Inflated AAV's for guys who are average at everything is not how you win the cup. You take 1 ELC, 1-3 25/26 year olds who are still cheap and potential to breakout, then 1-2 specialists like Kampf and add them to a core of elite guys and you have yourself a cup contender. Leafs always lose because their depth guys are all average at everything and peaked and their elite core disappears. Look at all the past cup winners since Matthews entered the league. Carried by 3-4 guys, then there's 1-2 side kicks who over achieve or breakout. You will rarely see a team that tries to balance the whole roster win the cup. Leafs have the pieces, just need the core to show up and some side kicks to emerge.
