please no big sweetener please no big sweetener please no big sweetener…

nice, lets see what we gave up for this, maybe after this we’ll finally learn to value cap space BEFORE we have to do trades

    who am i kidding lol

  3. As a vet, he should be able to lend a hand to their young team

  4. kawachee

Nothing retained likely means a third rounder (at least) also going to MTL. It’s painful to have to do this each and every season.

  5. Pearson and a 3rd for Casey DeSmith, confirmed by Dreger

  6. Twinbladey

Lol some people in here jumping the gun on that second round pick holy shit.

Clears 1.45mill for a 3rd and gets a vet backup in the mix. I like it

Not a bad trade! Solves our cap problem and our backup goalie problem in one move. Don’t love losing the third but I thought it would cost a 2nd just to dump Pearson tbh

  9. RooniltheWazlib

We didn’t lose a 2nd and got a decent backup goalie so we don’t have to rely on Martin/Delia. Pretty decent imo

I would be much happier about this if DeSmith hadn’t been arrested for domestic assault lol

Pearson and a 3rd for DeSmith

Clears a bit of cap, and we get a solid backup. I approve

I went to CapFriendly’s MTL page to see how much DeSmith makes and couldn’t find him. And that was because it’s been FIVE MINUTES since the deal was confirmed and they’ve already got that wonderful site updated!

That’s a tidy piece of business.

Gets us a solid backup, sheds cap, and let’s Pearson play where he can have a fresh start. The third pick is also in 2025 (and we better be good-ish by then). Well done!

Great trade. Addition by subtraction with Pearson gone. We have younger wingers ready to take his place. DeSmith is decent veteran backup option while we let Silvos marinate and we dont have to rely on Delia/Martin as much.

This is fucking solid tbh. Glad Pearson is gone, no more random passes to the slot from behind the net when nobody’s there, and honestly he was a dead link imo with out team… Horvat was the one that kept him around wasn’t he?

I would have given him up for empty future considerations tbh. We got a solid back up in the mix while we’re at it!

I still think Pearson can be a solid piece to a team, and he has his moments. I think a new change for him will be solid, wish him the best.

TBH glad it wasn’t Myers. I think the issues with Myers can be fixed a lot and worked on, and it’s his contract year. He will inevitably play better this year with less minutes and it being his contract year with real NHL defensemen and a real defensive system. We’d feel it big time without him.

    Solid work Jimmy & Pat.

Based on my Capfriendly Armchair GM this solves the cap problem with about 400k to spare depending on your configuration.

So I’m thinking that we see Irwin waived before the start of the season, and we see Wolanin and one of Brisebois, Juulsen, or Hirose (if he has a REALLY good showing at camp since he’s waiver exempt) up with the team on opening day. My money’s on Juulsen between the fact that he’s a RD and probably the most likely to get claimed.

Little Ricky D out here predicting the future

If you look at Pearson’s last 30 games, he’s WAY below NHL caliber. I still have zero clue to why Jimbo signed a guy with two career 20 goal seasons to a 3 year $9m contract.

His idiocy will haunt this club for decades
