  1. I remember watching this game and the other Smythe Division Semi (LA-Ed) in my college dorm's tv lounge with a few of my friends. It was a 4 large pizza type of night. 18 years old, good food, good hockey, good friends what a time.

  2. That BS goal in OT was directed by Otto's skate. That goal today wouldn't count and who knows what the outcome could've been if they disallowed that goal.

  3. The old black red yellow (!) Canucks jerseys look much better than the "new" ones.
Was 17 at the time of this final. No internet, no YouTube – just newspapers (Herald Tribune etc.) to get the results in Europe from at least two days later…. O Canada!
    Go Flames Go!
    Greetings from Germany

  4. One of the best series I ever saw. The Canucks played inspired hockey and almost pulled it off.

  5. 1:21:41 Two Western Canadian teams playing Canada's national sport in a seventh game…better play "The Stars and Stripes Forever."

  6. This series shouldn't of needed a Game 7. Why the first round is always scary for Calgary Flames fans. Thankfully Mike Vernon stood on his head and my childhood favourite Calgary Flame Joel Otto scored the big goal. There was too many close calls that could of went the other way.

  7. I'm glad someone posted this
As a 10-year-old Flames fan (at the time), I couldn't bear to watch the overtime period.

  8. 28:30 – Gotta love how back then they took a closer look and called it a goal but Calgary was denied the cup in 04' against Tampa in game 6 with even better replay tech. Unreal.

  9. Those 3 saves by Vernon in OT are arguably the best saves under the most pressure by an NHL goaltender ever.

  10. This is heaven for a hockey fan like me. Two Canadian teams playing in a game 7 during my favorite period of hockey (1980-93) with Bob Cole announcing. I might as well be smoking crack…

  11. I've waited over 30 years to finally to be able to see this as I'm from Australia as a Nucks fan!! What ripper game that was, stellar late 80's hockey right there from two lower ranked Canadian teams here…I miss the time when Canadian teams could get to the playoffs and even better have two Canadian fighting it out for the finals…Nowadays in 2020 you'd be even lucky to have one Canadian even make it to the playoff nowadays?! They're too many US-based teams in the NHL and I get the dollar/market value here but it's upset the balance here in my eyes. I miss this kinda style and intensity these days, sure you can have teams wearing the throwback uniforms but it still isn't the same. I wish it was 1989 again and I didn't even care for the 2020 playoffs either?!…Sigh….

  12. Wow crazy how singular plays like that can make a difference between getting eliminated earlier in the playoffs to winning the cup. Incredible saves.

  13. His name in history. He is Mike Vernon one of the greatest clutch goaltenders in hockey. He did it with the flames and red wings

  14. Mom and I had to leave the house. We went shopping. It was just to stressful to watch. Only thing was… The game was blaring all-over the mall🙃 Home town hero Mike Vernon was incredible. We barely won

  15. it's 2022, and the lames are still trying to win games by kicking goals in lol

  16. And people still say goaltending sucked in the 80s when denouncing Gretzky’s stats against goalies like Vernon and McLean…

  17. Crispy's face says it all at 2:13.03 😅. He looks like he wants to vomit. I remember watching this classic in our favorite watering hole, equally sick to my stomach watching the Canucks get chance after chance in the OT and Vernie barely holding the fort and feeling it was just a matter of time before they got one by him. Never forget the euforia when Ott's and Pep got it done finally and we never looked back after that. Good times, great memories….
