Ottawa Senators vs Vancouver Canucks: Who Wins a Stanley Cup First? [PART 1]

This episode was inspired by Jake Sanderson’s new deal & Trevor’s absence.

We get ready for a debate with our friends over at Locked On Senators on todays episode.

Look, they may have a core 5 but we have Elias Pettersson and Quinn Hughes…who you taking?

Then, as Kyle usually does on solo shows, he rambles about another opinion on Pettersson’s Contract Conundrum.

  1. KOMMENT KORNER:

WE ARE GONNA NEED YOUR HELP: TELL US WHY THE CANUCKS ARE IN BETTER SHAPE THAN THE SENS.

And yes, the answer can Rhyme with Patcher Zemko.

  2. Ottawa, I just like their team better I think, we should have had a Tkachuk, but we picked some loser instead, and the team with the Tkachuk will win first.

  3. I think people give Dorian a pass because he was handcuffed for so long by Melnyk, so I think he deserves a few years where he gets to make his own decisions.

  4. I mean I watch the Sens religiously, and don't catch the Canucks that often with the exception of when they play the Sens or late at night at a bar with the sound off. That said I'm kinda surprised this is a debate. It's Ottawa.

  5. Vancouver will be the next Canadian team to win the Stanley Cup. If Edmonton lose either Draisitl or McDavid they’re done. Calgary? Nobody wants to play there. Winnipeg seems to be having the same problem. Toronto…not a chance, they have the belief that they are a contender. Maybe in the regular season, but, they choke once the playoffs come around. Montreal…a long way to go from the bottom to the top.

  6. You talk about how getting paid makes you want it less, but did you see what tim stutzle did last season after he got his 8 year extension? This is a bit of a funny stat, but stutzle had the 19th best season a 20 year old has ever had. If you instead look at points per game, hes 20th all time. Of players actube in the league today, only 3 have more p/g in their 20 year old season, and theyre exactly who youd think. Sidney crosby, connor mcdavid, and alexander ovechkin. If you wanted to measure by total points instead, swap out sidney crosby for stephen stamkos. If they hadnt had such a alow start, it could have been them instead of florida going up against vegas. Fun fact, the sens and the Panthers were the only teams to beat the bruins twice last year, they just fell into the trap lots of young players do, which is underestimating weaker opponents. They know better now, and they know what steps they need to take. Weve got a team full of players who hate losing more than they love winning, and the result is they keep getting better, and people want to play here. My concern with the canucks is that even in a weak division, they werent able even get into the conversation for a spot in the playoffs. You can give the demko excuse all day, but the sens used 7 goalies last year and we blew you out of the water from the Atlantic (points wise, not in our meetings). Couple all that with the fact that we have a new owner who is hungry for the cup, and has proven himself capable of running a championship winning organization, i think the sens path to the cup is set, if everything goes right

  7. Pettersson and Hughes are not above everyone else.

I'll give you Pettersson for now but a 21 year old 90 point Stutzle is coming for him as soon as this season.

Not a fan in the nhl is trading tkachuk for Hughes

  8. People don't understand that yes players are happy to make a lot of money, but the reason why they are NHL players is not because of money. For us ordinary people it's easy to think that they might just sit back and not work as hard if they have a long term lucrative contract but these players are not ordinary people. They are driven by much more than money. Just my opinion..

  9. Love my Canucks but the reality is that there is to much to fix right now and Ottawa had a total rebuild. It would take a miracle to even come close in the next 3-5 years. Recent history was completely obliterated. Traded almost all our picks for several years and picked mediocre to crappy players over paid most and gave them leverage in their contracts. We can possibly make second round. Our forward group is mostly passive or soft. We have the second smallest and lightest team in the league. Unless they make major moves this winter. The Sens have cap space. In a way our only ace in the hole is Demko. Funny thing I was sort of building the team up when told a lot of players on our team are unproven as top calibre guys. And one might be another OEL. Mind you he did have a good career in Arizona. Consistent point totals. He said we could stink the place out. Still be hard to be as bad as last year. There was a handfull of other reasons also. I take that back. I see us getting better and could vie for the cup in two years if they can pick up the right players.Other teams have their super stars, we have Petey and Hughes. The old regime was FUBAR. Perhaps they did try and build around these guys but failed in epic proportions. The Sens don't have any obstacles ahead of them. Right now we have a ton debris in our path. Demko Silovs goaltending tandem. Two years from now. So many ifs. And for the longest time this team still has no identity.
