The reason is so Mathews can extort an 8 year deal out of The Leafs when he isn't worth it. He'll sign 8 years when 6 of those years he'll be worthless. Great loyalty from this entitled spoiled core. They all just care about squeezing every dollar out of Toronto instead of showing any appreciation for the fans. No wonder this team will never win. If only the lottery balls had bounced for Toronto and they got a true loyal franchise player in McDavid. He is the example of a loyal unselfish appreciative star.
Self-serving bullshit by Matthews. It's always about HIM…and not the team. Same kind of behaviour on the ice, on the whole. The guy will never stand up for a teammate, even though he has the size to do it. I just hope that this kind of self-serving player does NOT become captain of the Leafs.
