The Career of Carl Hagelin

He played a fast game with some skill and defensively strong instincts. It’s a shame his career was cut short due to injury.

  1. I’ll never forget when Hagelin skating pass P.K. Subban for the empty net to help the Penguins defend their title in 2017! He’s one of the members of the legendary HBK line in 2016. Congratulations and enjoy your retirement Haggy!!!

  2. Must be frustrating to end a career with a perfectly fine physique besides the eye. Wish we could've had him longer in DC but all the best to him in retirement

  3. Hated it when the Rangers traded him. He looked lost in Anaheim, but blossomed in Pittsburgh. Mike Sullivan knew his game from his time as an assistant in NY. Honest hockey player, fun to watch (especially scoring from the dot to eliminate the Pens in 2015). All the best to him in the next stage of his life.

  4. Thanks, Shannon. Don't forget — he was also captain of the Michigan Wolverines and got his degree from Michigan. Besides his obvious skill and intelligence, the thing I always noticed about him was that he really had no accent at all — quite an accomplishment for someone for whom English was not his native language.

  5. Will tell his grandchildren he played on a line with PHIL KESSEL! PENS fans will always thank him for the Cups. Enjoy your retirement.!

  6. Unfortunate injury.

If he was still a Caps player, the team/org would learn how old and slow they are getting.

Hagelin was such a good pick-up, but alas. Caps fandom is unfair.

  7. Hagsy is a personal favorite of mine. He quietly had a stellar two way career. Never really a selke contender but definitely someone you could rely on in your own zone and the transition. Its a shame his career went out like that but it was a good one and now he can enjoy some time with his family.

  8. Coincidently, Tanner Pearson was also traded twice that same season.

  9. As a Ranger fan, I appreciated him a lot. When we gave him up, I was surprised and super bummed out.

  10. He also scored the series clinching goal against the pens in 2015 for the rangers. Ironically to win the Stanley cup with them the following year

  11. Another 🇸🇪 retiring, after Patric Hornqvist and Carl Soderberg.. Keep it up Shannon

I would be soo happy if u could Career vid on either Paul MacLean or Pierre Mondou, would be very appreciated 😇

  12. Can we please get a career video on Ryan Callahan, Brian Boyle and Brandon Dubinsky please

  13. Was one of my favorite Rangers as a kid, they still haven’t replaced his impact to this day

  14. As a Pens fan I absolutely loved Hagelin and his speed for forechecking and creating turnovers!

One of his two goals in the 2016-17 playoffs was the empty netter to seal it against Nashville!

  15. Haglin was one of those rare players where no-one really hates him. Hes just one of those guys who was consistently good (playing is role) and someone who every fan base wanted on their team

  16. I was LIVID when Jim Rutherford traded Hagelin away after a slow start to the season. Rutherford is notorious for not hesitating to tinker with his roster and the Hagelin trade just reeked of a knee-jerk panic move – and then I was basically proven correct when he tried and failed to bring him back at the deadline that same season, since a CBA rule to made him intelligible to return to Pittsburgh.

Hagelin was loved in the Pens' locker room and just happened to be best friends with Patric Hornqvist. No one was happy when he was traded away (not even Rutherford, it seemed). He made a HUGE impact as soon as he arrived and now we have the magic of the HBK line to live on in hockey lore.

Thanks for wearing a Pens jersey, Shannon. He wasn't here for a particularly long time but he sure was a part of some of the best memories of the modern Penguins era.

  17. Absolutely loved hagelin when he was on the rangers. Trading him started the decline of the rangers as team speed was how they were successful.

  18. Hilariously bad at scoring, but he could absolutely fly and was a menace on the forecheck. Great PK'er too. Love Hags

  19. Can’t wait until every player has a visor. Which brings me to a question…who will be the last player in the NHL to not have a visor? I think maybe Stone.

  20. As a Pens fan, just thinking about the HBK line just brings a tear to my eye. That collection of players was exactly what the pens needed, and Hagelin was the gel that made that line work so well. Felt like he was always in the exact place he needed to be. whether it was cleaning up the dirt and sweeping in a rebound or feeding a nice pass, he was there. I hope Haggy is able to look back on his career and be happy, he deserves a wonderful retirement.

  21. Great middle-six two-way player with amazing wheels. Loved him on the Rangers. He had a bad habit of wearing his visor too high, above eye level, though, which likely was a factor in his injury.
