Ekman Larsson Reportedly Agrees to 8 Year Extension

Is it too much or is this market value? This kicks in next summer, not this summer. They cannot officially announce it until July 1st. Yes, I forgot to change jerseys for this video. I apologize.

  1. Putting a ceiling on the number of years you can sign a player has just made all teams practically sign everyone relevant for that ceiling of 7 or 8 years…

  2. They can always trade thos bad contract to Arizona…. oh wait… haha at least they're trying

  3. I hope coyotes get out of basement they need to bad or else but I feel after near end of the year they bright future if dev players sign right guys draft

  4. Gotta think that they told him their future plans. They probably told him that they're spending to the cap to win.

  5. I think Arizona overpaid him, but I suspect they were afraid that if he left they wouldn't get anybody else who is a halfway decent offensive D to come and play on their team. In a way OEL has them over a barrel (a really big barrel full of money). Can he win a Cup in the next 8 years? Probably not, but I guess he has 70 million reasons to say "I don't care!"

  6. If you are Arizona what are you supposed to do with him? He isn't worth that money I agree but for Arizona he is and they need to keep talented players at some point.

  7. Chayka must have made a really convincing pitch to OEL for him to sign this extension, cause honestly, looking at this Coyotes team, I have many questions for them. Although the Coyotes are not playing in the stacked Central Division, the Pacific Division is still very competitive. Will Keller, Dvorak, Raanta and OEL be enough to carry the Yotes into a playoff spot?

  8. Sadly it's the price you pay for being a dreadful team. They overpaid for sure, but they locked up an important piece who's coming into his prime. Let's see Arizona make some moves and get out of the basement. I love the competitiveness of the NHL but I absolutely hate seeing the same franchises at the bottom of the league over and over again.

  9. I love this deal. Really smart on his part. Have you ever been in the phoenix area? Its the most under rated place to live in north america

  10. I love OEL's game but 8,25 cap hit seems too high to me. I don't really know what it should be but in my opinion a bit under Hedman (who is my fav NHL D-man atm) so maybe something like 7,5 would seem more sensible.

Sometimes you hear talk about giving "home town discound" but in Arizonas case it feels like "home town raise" since if you think it like this; OEL UFA this summer? Where would he go? Vegas would be able to pay him 7,5 and 7,5 for a decent change for cup doesn't seem that bad…. Then again it's a 1 mil less than what arizona offered, but is Arizona realisticly a cup contender during OEL's stay? If Arizona begins rising and theyre prospects start getting seriously paid, how long does it take for OEL's cap hit to start seem like a hinderance? Before or after Arizona wins the cup?

  11. Shannon: in comparison, how do hockey legends Gordie Howe and Bobby Orr contracts look like compared to Larsson (adjusted for inflation)?

  12. Contract is absolutely worth it. Considering Arizona's situation, i could say that losing their face of the franchise in OEL would be a death sentence for the organization. Also OEL would 100% gotten more money if he bolted to open market. Thinking like 9m, also Doughty's and Karlsson's next contracts will both be +10m per season

Also these two past seasons have been both mentally and physically hard for him. He has played with injured wrist, so that's definitely has held him down. Also his mother died at the end of the last season, imagine playing hockey, when the most important person in your life is fighting for her life at the other end of the world.

At his best OEL is absolutely top-10 Dman in the entire world and i think that he hasn't hit his full potential yet

  13. bad contract now there regretting it and no hes not even the best on his team hes not even a top 20 defenseman
