Am I missing something? I see lots of people saying this is not a dirty hit how isn’t it Oshie is hitting whoever is retrieving the puck and then Thornton comes in and hits him how is that not dirty?
Anyone that watches hockey or atleast knows the rules knows you cannot hit someone without the puck . Oshie never had the puck and got hit in the head without the puck,and y’all are saying it wasn’t a dirty? Doesn’t matter if he fell or not. Watch Thorton, he was out to get Oshie the whole time.
Frame 0:36 Thornton is looking at Oshie and aiming into his head. After the impact Thornton doesn't even look back validating his vicious intent . He will be suspended no doubt.
No matter where the contact would have ended up, if Oshie had not fallen, that hit was still late. The puck was long gone. Oshie was finishing his check after Couture cleared the puck up ice, but Thornton was just late to the party. There was literally no reason for him to make that hit, especially while on the power play.
Anyone calling for a suspension is delusional. If Oshie hadnt of fallen it would have been a bit of a bump at most. Some people would call it interference but even then thats only a 2 minute penalty. Oshie falling half a second before contact doesnt make this hit suspension worthy.
Come on people… this league is soft enough as it is, and its the people blowing something like this out of proportion who are ruining the physicality and toughness of hockey.
As a diehard Caps fan, Oshe was just in the wrong place at the wrong time with a much bigger Thort finishing his side to side clean hit while Oshe was in a vulnerable position
Not a penalty (Im a caps fan). Oshie fell last minute and Thornton had to finish his check. Not to mention Thornton glided from start to finish through the check
I'm surprised there wasn't like a boarding call. Some boarding moments are accidental but there is still always a call for the safety of the players. Especially since Oshie was knocked out.
That's horrible, he still lead with his hips in slow motion it looks like he had time to adjust but full speed it's tough. Oshie was already on his knees and falling for Thorten to take a hint

As dirty as the day is long. Thornton was pissed that Oshie robbed him of the puck in the O zone, had his number the whole way back. The defenseman snapped the puck away from Oshie, good defensive play, and Thornton had already committed to ringing Oshie's bell however he could. Did he mean to go hips-heads-boards? No. But the hit was late, full speed, half speed, whatever speed you want to look at. Some incidental contact would have been fine, it's a hockey play, not a bum rush stiff hip into the board on a falling player. Bunch of caps haters in here.
Is everyone here the God of determining intention? Doesn't matter anyway, you can't hit someone like that accident or not that's why you should still be punished. Sorry doesn't cut it.
