The Hawks will likely still be bad. It’s all about how #98 performs.

  1. I expect another tank season. It will probably be about 3 seasons until we're in the spot that a team like Detroit was in last season when they finally started adding a few players.

  2. Good summation, buddy. Yeah, Bedard has never played at this level but he's been pretty unreal even so.
143 points in 57 games, with the #2 scorer having 34% less scoring points. His last year with the Pats, he scored 21 more goals than the #2 goal scorer in the league. He had a career average of 2.022 points per game, with Regina, remember. In the 2023 world juniors, he played remarkably well against men much older than him and much more experienced, and he set four new Canadien world junior records that year. Four.
It would be a mistake to think he doesn't know this will be an uphill battle, but hell, playing for the Pats was too. And we all know he does't shirk uphill battles. He's likely going to train harder than he ever has, but now he has pro trainers who will make him work hard, and he will have old pros helping him along, every step of the way.
I'm going to step way out on a limb and say a point a game for the Blackhawks … if, he doesn't get hurt – heaven forbid.
Chicago is thin in most respects right now, but I think they know that. It's time to spend that last 13 million wisely, but spend most or all of it. They need a goaltender and they need goal scorers and another defenseman or two, otherwise they may barely be better than last year.

  3. I honestly think Bedard's ceiling for this season is like 66 points. Don't have any reasoning behind it, just feel that way. Honestly surprised to hear "70 points minimum" from THG here, thought he'd have lower expectations. Guess we'll see, it'd be cooler if he proved me wrong.

  4. Korchinski will be 19 the entire NHL season. There are usually very few teenage defenseman in the NHL. There is no reason to rush him in general, and specifically for where the Blackhawks are at. For context, Duncan Keith was drafted at 19 in 2002 and didn't play full time in the NHL until 2006. That development time helped him tremendously.

  5. Never fully appreciated how much the other fan bases in the league hate my hometown Penguins until the Hawks drafted Bedard a year after Kane and Toews left. Like, I finally get it.

  6. Hawks didn’t bring in Taylor Hall to play with Bedard, they brought in Hall to win next years draft lottery.

  7. Blackhawks are a joke. The 2 million dollar fine isnt even 1% of the revenue they generate.

  8. Bedard could end up only getting 25 goals in his first season, comparable to someone like Tavares in his first outing. I see Chicago competing for the first overall pick in the Entry Draft, because when you have a team in year one, after stripping their team down to the studs, they need a lot better goaltending going forward. Perry and Foligno could easily be sold off as rentals at the deadline, with Chicago being in a position to easily retain their salaries.

  9. I know bedard has nothing left to prove in junior. But putting bedard in the nhl I don’t know if that’s necessarily the right call but who know what’s really going to happen

  10. I’m hoping to see a good improvement from the Hawks this season, but I don’t know if they rise in the standings that much if at all. For the Hawks to move up, other teams need to move down and I can’t think of teams that would move down in the Central or in the league that they could jump over.

  11. For those looking for a reason for Bedard to bust…look at the other time the #1 overall draft pick wore the number 98.

  12. I feel bad for Bedard, all these people predicting him getting 100 points his first season. Now if he ends up with like 75 or 80 points it'll be seen as a failure of a season which is absolutely absurd.

As for the Blackhawks, they'll still likely be bottom of the division

  13. The Hawks can only get better from here. I see them getting 5-10 more wins. Soderbloom will be a solid goalkeeper. Helps to have C. jones gone from the defense. Bedard will help the scoring and PP.

  14. the blackhawks uniform and that black Sens one with the centurion they had in the early 2000s are 2 of my favorite jerseys in hockey. Big fan of the face theme

  15. The only player on earth putting up 100 points with this team is McDavid. I love Bedard’s upside but let’s be a little realistic
