  1. I think this is the perfect term for the Leafs. If they don't win in the next 4 years, they're never winning with this group, so they can let Matthews go to the Rangers and start over. And even if they do win, and 30 year old Matthews still wants a big pay out, they can say, "OK we won" and let Matthews go to the Rangers without regrets. If they sign him to 8 years and don't win the next 3-4 years, they're probably going into a rebuild anyway with 30 year old Matthews, past his prime, and $13M on the cap and impossible to trade. Good move for the Leafs.

  2. Perfect! We have the certainty that Toronto didn't learn any lessons from last years and they will not win a cup in the next 5 seasons+ ! šŸ˜‚

  3. It’s like he wants to play with 4th liners his whole career. The Leafs are going to spend another 5 years with overpaid superstars and dogshit everything else!

  4. I'm not a Leafs fan, but I think they should now sign Nylander, and unless, Marner has a no rrade clause, trade him for a good D-man. Marner is a zero in the playoffs.

  5. for a guy who's going to be getting $13M per season, he better have 4 more years like 21-22 as opposed to last year. Or any other year for that matter.

  6. Not really surprised as they were predicting 13m anyways. Just wish they wrapped him up for a longer term. DANG!

  7. Toronto should be lucky that they have all these players on the LTIR list. Idk how else they'd have that many players on $10M+ salaries.

  8. Matthews contract makes sense.
    Leafs are a lucky franchise.
They'll be competitive during that time …
Not like us Canuck fans šŸ˜›

  9. Not related to the content, but I've got to say, it's a lot easier to find this channel by a single glance with Shannon's face on in the channel profile picture.

  10. I think the question in Toronto is not how long Nylander gets signed but rather how long til these pixie sticks win a championship?

  11. Matthews? I dont think I've heard of him. Does he play for some small market somewhere?

  12. If laf played to what he was supposed to play like he'd be banking in on a 6mil contract right about now

  13. Smash that like button , Shannon is the man . A great signing for both sides I’ve never been a huge fan of the long 8 year deal. Cheers šŸ‡ØšŸ‡¦

  14. Wtf is that deal hahaha. All that for one series win in seven years…. not even worth it

  15. Here come all of the hot takes saying ā€œthis proves nobody wants to stay in Canadaā€. Honestly for the term I wouldn’t want to sign him long term at the cap hit.

  16. If he wants to stay with the Leafs long term, then does the 4 year deal just give him an opportunity for a payday if he earns a cup in those four years?

  17. Remember, by the end of this contract Matthews will have been a Leaf for 12 years. Life time Leafer. šŸ‘

  18. That contract is fair value given the player of his calibre. People thinking it’s an overpay or him being greedy seems nuts to me. Of course one of the best players in the NHL will want a lot of money, that’s just common sense
