NHL Source Calls John Chayka “A Liar & A Quitter”: Terminates HIS OWN Contract As Arizona Coyotes GM

The whole John Chayka story with the Arizona Coyotes lately has been really weird. On the one hand, we have NHL sources noting how Chayka is apparently seeking other job opportunities unrelated to other NHL teams. However, we have other NHL sources via Craig Morgan that indicate otherwise. The NHL source on the contrary went as far to note Chayka as “a liar and a quitter.” With the statements that the Arizona Coyotes have put forward on Chayka’s leave, it certainly adds some room for speculation.

The Arizona Coyotes are heading into the 2020 Stanley Cup Playoffs Play-In Series against the Nashville Predators.

The 2020 Stanley Cup Playoffs will involve eight already-confirmed teams, which are the Boston Bruins, Tampa Bay Lightning, Washington Capitals, and Philadelphia Flyers in the East, and the Colorado Avalanche, St. Louis Blues, Vegas Golden Knights, and Dallas Stars in the West. The remaining teams will fight in qualifying play-in series. The matchups will be the Chicago Blackhawks against the Edmonton Oilers, Calgary Flames against the Winnipeg Jets, Arizona Coyotes against the Nashville Predators, Vancouver Canucks against the Minnesota Wild, Columbus Blue Jackets against the Toronto Maple Leafs, Pittsburgh Penguins against the Montreal Canadiens, Carolina Hurricanes against the New York Rangers, and the Florida Panthers against the New York Islanders.

The roster of the Coyotes heading into the series includes forwards Brayden Burke, Michael Chaput, Lawson Crouse, Christian Dvorak, Hudson Fasching, Christian Fischer, Conor Garland, Michael Grabner, Taylor Hall, Barrett Hayton, Vinnie Hinostroza, Clayton Keller, Phil Kessel, Brad Richardson, Nick Schmaltz, Carl Soderberg and Derek Stepan, defensemen Kyle Capobianco, Jakob Chychrun, Jason Demers, Oliver Ekman-Larsson, Alex Goligoski, Jordan Gross, Niklas Hjalmarsson, Ilya Lyubushkin, Aaron Ness, Jordan Oesterle and Victor Soderstrom, and goaltenders Adin Hill, Darcy Kuemper, and Antti Raanta.

Victor Soderstrom, one of the more interesting players here, was selected by the Coyotes 11th overall at the 2019 NHL Entry Draft.

  1. Something not adding up?? Week ago there was a report Hall had dinner with someone in AZ front office about low ball offer, apparently Chayka and Hall agent wasn't present for this dinner meeting. So this week Chayka resigns and he's out, AZ front office on damage control right now…

  2. Arizona is a mess there was the lowball offer for Hall. Sucked for so long finna,LT have a chance this year and all this drama leading up I feel bad for u Coyotes fans.

  3. It's too bad that the Coyotes chose to word their statement the way that they did. We may never know what really happened until we hear from Chayka and or the owner. I just don't understand why the Coyotes trashed him as Chayka resigned. No need for that, and makes them look petty and vengeful. Another sad day in Arizona hockey history.

  4. when the owner try's to re sign a top player over dinner and doesn't invite or tell the GM about it…..trouble .

  5. What a terrible post by Arizona no matter how this played out… Wouldn’t make Sullivan feel better about taking over after reading that lol

  6. Remember folks, this is the team that was doing the creepy illegal workouts, etc. for potential prospects/draftees. And John Chayka was the man in charge while it was happening. This probably should have happened months ago, at the very least.

  7. What do you expect? Hiring a 26 year old to run a team without going through the years of training or apprenticeships
Yes analytics matter but what other magic skills did he possess?
With minimal results Meruelo wanted to block his departure?

  8. So an interested party came and asked if they could proposition and Arizona said yah sure, instead of saying no he is ours. Hmmm. Now its his fault he has a better offer. I think the yots are just realing from a bad choice. So if your offered a better job and you take it your a lier and a quitter. Use your brain child.

  9. Greatest fans in the league.!! lol OK now that is a big fat huge lie.!!
If they had the best fans in the NHL, they wouldn't be losing money every year they have been in the league if I'm not wrong.??
So gotta question who is lieing here huh.??

  10. He was probably pissed cause they went over his head and arranged a dinner with Hall and offer him a Low ball contract without Chayka's knowledge! Maybe

  11. I would never want to be the GM of the Coyotes. Cant imagine how hard and frustrating it is to work for a team that is not committed to win or willing to do what it takes to win.

  12. Don't really care who's telling the truth or not! Coyotes dodged a huge bullet with Chayka leaving the organization, he was a terrible gm. Sullivan will do a better job.

  13. Tbh I’m a huge fan of chyaka and honestly think he’s a top 5 gm. I honestly think he felt offended that the yotes went behind his back so he quit. Plus all these stories it sounds like miscommunication with ownership

  14. Your delivery has improved immensely… Now if you could just shake the video game in the back ground. You don't need the video game in the background anymore!

  15. Did he make the playoffs with them? he's been given more time than most gms.kessel and galchenyuk are gonna get it done?so add Hall's playoff experience.overrated
