Who is The Best Goalie Prospect? Wallstedt vs. Askarov vs. Cossa
Kyle is joined by our Head Goaltender Scout, Danny Tiffany to discuss which of Jesper Wallstedt, Iaroslav Askarov or Sebastian Cossa is the best goalie not in the the NHL right now.
The real question is why did/does Steve Yzerman believe Cossa as the better prospect? I think Yzerman wants the Goalie thats 6 6 which is the equivalent of 100 mph fastball in baseball.
Wallstedt is for sure the best right now but it’s impossible for him to have the highest ceiling. Cossa shows so much to improve on technique wise just on the eye test but he’s so fast and explosive that he effortless gets across on one timers. One among many examples he’s bailed out by his size and athleticism. So if he gets his technique down Wallstedt has little to nothing over him
From the 3 goalies who's the best 👌 👍 😍 🥰 I haven't seen all three start yet in any of the per seasons games in the N.H.L.all three have a great chance too start in the N.H.L.
Mr. C. IN RED WINGS ,MR. A.????,AND MR.W . IS CONSITERTURED THE BEST GOALTENDER 👌 👍 😍 IN THE DRAFT !!!!!!,but since the war in Ukraine when Russia invaded the K.H.L. Hockey 🏒 🏑 🏒 🏑 league is messed up !!!!!
Danny Tiffany seems like he’s just a fan of Jesper and that’s who he’s watched. It all also depends on your team’s pipeline of goalies n how your team develops their prospects. Some teams are desperate to win bc they believe they’re in a window to win and may rush a goalie to fit their need instead of trading for one. Also it’s not bad to start a unknown rookie in the playoffs if he’s decent. Here is why… 1) when you have a rookie goalie the team usually plays extremely well in front of them bc they’re trying to help him get climatized to the NHL. Most veterans goalies have earned some sort of trust from the team like hey our goalie has this where as a rookie they may not feel the same. 2) by the time the other team figures the rookie goalie they may already be down 3 games n the series is virtually over and that if* they figure him out. Look at What Matt Murray did n I wouldn’t consider him an elite goalie. Even some backups that rarely play have been able to steal the show for the same reasons.
So it’s tough to say I know Cossa was coming from a stacked junior team that limited quality shots n when he started his pro career with less defensive help he struggled in the beginning but has since got used to it and has adjusted greatly to it n has been lights out. I know nothing about Jesper other than I’ve heard he’s positionally sound n plays a calm style but I can admit that n that great traits to have.
As for askarov I’ve seen some of his highlights n games n I think highly of him bc I feel like he has legs like Vasilevskiy. If he can build on that I think he’s in a good spot for goalies being in Nashville bc they have good defense it seems every year n that’s a priority for their team.
As for highest ceiling they can only be judged on their career n their teams bc like CP31 never won a cup n was on a crappy team but did so much their many believed him to be the best. Matt Murray won back to back cups in his first 2 years n I don’t see much more he will accomplish in his career. Does that mean MM is better than CP31 or had a higher ceiling? No not at all CP31>MM all day.

Is Cossa any good?
Huge wings fan, I was hoping Stevie would take Wallstedt but I’ve learned to stop questioning Yzerman.

What I'd like to know… when do you project when they reach their perspective team
The Wings have such amazing Swedish scouts including reports from former players that they had Wallstedt well scouted and obviously liked Cossa more.

They all are first round picks and none of have played an NHL game so I have them all ranked the same. What a worthless video.
