Habs fan here and i just don’t get the trade from mtl point of view. I doubt lindstrom will play much in montreal (mtl have so much young d probably already better than him) he’s most likely gonna go directly to laval and stay there unless there’s a lot of injuries. I would’ve been ok with it if there was no retention but it feels very underwhelming for keeping 2.something for 2 years
thought i would be hearing about hanifin taking his talents to michigan but looking like lindholm, haanifin, nylander could be staying put to start the season, even though those would have been the most exciting moves this offseason.
Thats a pretty low return, the kind of return i expected without retention. Lindstrom is a lot younger and cheaper, but Montreal already has a ton of defensive prospects … a 4th round pick is also okay but not worth that much cash in retention.
I think MTL really wanted to get Petry traded quickly way before the season out of respect for his years in MTL and because he obviously didn’t want to comeback, Hughes didn’t mind it because he got paid with other assets to take his contract.
Up next a goalie trade !
Is Petry the veteran anchor for the Red Wings like Coffey was for Lidstrom in 1992?
This is a good trade for Detroit as someone who has watched a lot of Justin Holl over the past few years. I can assure you he's far from a top-4 defenseman. The Red Wings needed someone else in their top 4, so I think they won this trade.
Its going to be a very interesting preseason. Im curious what happens if Edvinsson and/or another dman forces his way onto the roster. Maata just inked an extension, so it would be weird for him to get traded. The same can be said for the off season additions. Maybe Chiarot gets moved, but will have to retain some salary?
So does this make Maata a very expensive 7th? I'm a little confused because I want to see what Johansson's got, but injuries always happen.
Good for Detroit, thank god he’s out of Pittsburgh tho. I think he’s better suited mentor now as opposed to a contending top 4
Great trade for both sides. MTL unload a 2 years contract to get a young RD with minimum salary and a pick, Detroit gets a hometown boy that can play on the top 4 and drive the offense with Seider. MTL is still in a rebuild, Detroit is ready to take the next step. This trade makes a lot of sense for both teams.
I don't really like us having 7 veterans in front of the prospects now. Makes it much harder for prospects that are probably ready for NHL time. If we were already a playoff team, this stuff would all make sense. But we will inevitably need the prospects to make an impact, so I'd prefer to get them involved sooner, while we're still…not good?
Our offense is going to be very improved this year
Love it! Yzerman just keeps acquiring assets. Once the lineup gets semi-solidified depending on who produces and plays best together, the rest of the boys become valuable trade capital!
Honestly, I think Lindstrom will be a factor for the Rockets, not the Canadiens.
Detroit fleeced the habs in this trade
See you PEACH TREE 🤓
Good video! When using the punctuation ?! the way I remember it, it is called an interrobang, not a banginterro 😀 I'm not being an internet jerk, I recently learned just how much commenting on a video helps the creator and as a Wings fan, I don't have much to say about this trade other than it's fine. I like my interrobang factoid.
Another boring, dull video from ohnyquist. Shocker
I'll complete your MTL side of things :
With Lindstrom MTL aren't only offloading Petry & his salary, they are getting one year of tranquility for Mailloux & Engstrom to keep developping without rushing things out in the AHL and for Reinbacher to either join them in Laval or start the season back with Kloten in the Swiss League.
That's more important than what Gustaw can bring to the team, although Kent Hughes mentionned his scouts saw him as a kid with still a good chunk of untapped potential.
Were it to be the case, it would give MTL one more security to move/say bye to Wideman a bit sooner than having to wait until end of next season.
IMHO, Kent Hughes did a huge favor to A) Jeff Petry and B) Steve Yzerman because The ROI for Jeff Petry does not worth the trouble to reclaim 50% of Jeff Petry Salary for the next 2 years. It's Gustav Lindstrom last chance to get a job in the NHL before returning to Sweden next year.
It was a favor to Petry from Hughes
It’s a good return when you don’t consider the 50% retained. If you do, then this is amazing for Detroit, and a lot worse for Montreal
This is good for Detroit. Let those prospects develop properly. Depth on defense is always a good thing. The cap hit is extremely manageable as well, for all of the defense. Like none of them are on a cap hit more than $5M
Petry's dad won the World Series with the Tigers in 84.
i think we could have got at least a 3rd. yzerman wins this deal. lindstrom is capable. he's…like kovacevic. but i think we should have held out for a 3rd.
my thoughts, Is this guy going to play? I can't imagine they are expecting him to be better than Holl. My guess that its injury insurance in casezees, Maby Lalonde thinks we're better than expected and He's reinforging so we don't dip at the end of the season like last year.
Literally no one thought Petry was staying in Montreal when the team didn't issue a "welcome back".
Do you guys think a more dynamic coach and offensive orientate like Martin St-Louis would improve Gustav Linstrom or his development is over ? In his press conference, Kent Hugues stated that they see him at about 70% of his potential…what do you guys think ?
